Morrow's 42 Aren't Enough For Nets Against Timberwolves

Anthony Morrow played the game of his life on Friday, but he didn't have enough help, as the Nets fell to the Timberwolves, 108-105 at the Prudential Center.

The Nets led by one at the half, and that was the margin midway through the third quarter before the Wolves took control with a 12-0 run. They led by five heading into the fourth, but the Nets came back to take the lead and the game went back and forth in the final period.

A 7-0 run put the Wolves up five in the final minute. Morrow then hit a four-point play to put the Nets within one, but the Wolves made all their free throws and Deron Williams turned the ball over twice in the last 25 seconds, including on the final possession.

Morrow led the Nets with 42 points, shooting 13-for-20 from the field and 8-for-11 from 3-point range. It was the Nets' first 40-point game in three years, since Vince Carter scored 41 in March 2009. Morrow's teamates shot 38 percent. Williams added 12 points and 14 assists, but was only 5-for-18. Jordan Farmar finished with 14 points and seven assists, and Kris Humphries added 15 points and nine rebounds. The Nets dressed only 10 players.

Rubio is fake. DWill is going to expose him tonight.

by shane gayle on Feb 3, 2012 10:15 PM EST reply actions

While Rubio certainly outplayed him tonight

Deron’s crap shooting really didn’t have much to do with Rubio. He was missing the easy open looks that he had been knocking down for like the past few games.

Except for the 6 TO's to Rubio's 6 steals

Deron matched or outplayed Rubio. Rubio just had more dazzle.

(Universal fan perception, that lesser players tend to burn their teams.)

If the Wolves had lost this game, Canis Hoopus would be full of hair-pulling about Anthony Morrow.

And yet both Morrow and Nikola Pekovic are known quantities, at least in terms of what they did tonight. My Wolves are so starved for wing talent it’s painful, and players like Morrow go off on them. The Nets are starting Shelden Williams due to Brook’s injury. Sorry to see it, man.

Sure dwill turned the ball over in the final possession, but don’t forget what he did the last few games.. This is just an off night game for him and he’ll turn it around.

As for the team, considering we were severely undermanned the last few games, their tiredness finally showed in this game but we showed effort and played hard especially ammo’s career night, thats all you can ask for as a fan… On to the next one, go nets!

No one ever said it was easy being a Nets fan, with the situations we get put in, most fake bandwagon fans would laugh and pick a new team to route for. all im trying to say is lets stay optimistic. if there is one word to describe this season so far, it is adversity. and i promise you, no team will be successful without overcoming adversity at one point in a season. stay positive, love this team and you fans.

When a player drops 40+

and you have 100+ points, there is minimal reason to lose. The only way to is to give up more than you make (obviously). And to give up more than 100+ is terrible defense. Thus, defense is what lost us the game, not Deron

he's good but on curcial possesions in the 4th, why would you put farmar on him

& Bogans on the bench. If he’s being driving at will all game, Avery’s matchups & even plays on important times during the games are questionable. Like can’t remember exactly the plays, but do remember team having 2 TO’s right after he called a TO to diagram a play in this game. I get this team is already undermaned but it stuff like that can change an outcome.

I can recall when Spurs played Dallas last weekend. Spurs starters were sucking Parker & Duncan included. But Greg Pop put in all subs and those boys came back to make a game of it. By no means I’m I saying/jumping on the “FIRE AVERY” bandwagon. But I do want him to learn from his mistakes he has made so far this season. Case in point Petro’s should be in the dressing room & JWill should have his minutes. Yes JWill has only being back for a couple of games but when Avery went with other lineups with Petro on the bench it worked as well..

I question the use of offense/defense substitutions

If you don’t get a dead ball between possessions, you’re stuck with (for instance) Farmar (instead of Bogans) guarding Rubio.

2 TO’s right after he called a TO

you mean 2 turnovers after a timeout? I’m easily confused.

30seconds left

I wish we didn’t foul with 30 seconds, We would of won with the three by morrow. But anyway tough lost Dwill cost us. There were many positives first Jordan Williams and now i can say i can handle getting rid of marshon brooks in a Dwight deal

by conman14513 on Feb 3, 2012 11:00 PM EST reply actions

It had nothing to do with the foul.

The twolves could have put the game completely away with a make or rebound. It was the right call and worked out perfectly, we got a 1 point game with 18 seconds left. We just didn’t execute on our last possesion.

by Nick Tortoise on Feb 3, 2012 11:02 PM EST up reply actions

Ya i know Dwill just lost the ball and messed up.

Executing = getting a good shot. Any make would mean we executed, doesn’t need to be a play set from timeout. Anyways early use of time outs may have been a reason for the loss also, lots of factors in this game.

Deron Williams on late turnovers: “When I do something like that it definitely upsets me and it’s on me. I told the team it was my fault.”

More Deron: “It happens, man. You can’t be great in every pressure situation. Sometimes you turn the ball over, sometimes you miss shots…”

Inevitable; by the way, he had a wicked throwdown on Hibbert two days ago that was completely obscured by Blakemania. Maybe said that Lakers were still going to be his team.

Probably came off too strong while at the same time Deron was saying you can be the face of Brooklyn Nets.

If Jordan Williams is out of shape, we need to get Petro on that diet!

Bottom line is I wanna see J-Will getting 20 mins/gm(minimum) as long as Lopez is out. He has a more fluid offensive game than any big we have right now. Plus he attacks the ball off the rim & attacks the basket when around it.

Shelden Williams takes WAY to much time to gather & shoot. He gets great passes while wide open & it’s like a race to see if he can get the shot up before getting fouled. D-Will gave him a great pass tonight & he brought the ball down to his knees to gather before going up & getting fouled of course. These are shots that Hump dunks consistently. In short, his offensive game is downright offensive!

The only thing I can say about Petro is he’s big for us. He’s listed at 7" I believe. He’s big for us.

and love was at the line so i yelled out “hows it feel to have to spend 4 more years in minnesota?” and the guys like “better than playing on this team” so i shot back “talk to me in brooklyn” and then he turned around and shut up

It is killing Brook not playing. He looks miserable behind the bench.

I really got to get to some games soon. I am loud and proud of the team and show it at the games.

How is anyone a Minnesota basketball fan, unless you are from Minnesota?

Do people just buy a jersey because of a player and jump on the bandwagon of that team? I know Kevin Love is a good player and Ricky Rubio can pass the ball, but, they are still a below .500 team.

Brooklyn can not come soon enough

This is why Dwight is so important though. A lot of bandwaggoners to win over in the NYC area

That is mind boggling

Unless they flew in from Minnesota, there is no reason for them to have a following in NJ. None.

prob more Rubio fans than anything

but still… do you remember how many Oklahoma City fans were at the Rock? Like come on really, Oklahoma is on the bottom half of state populations yet there are that many in New Jersey.

by SovietBrooklyn on Feb 4, 2012 12:45 AM EST up reply actions

Of course

You couldn’t throw a rock without hitting a Lakers fan in Queens when the Knicks were terrible. None of this surprises (or even bothers) me. Fans want to cheer for Rubio? Ok. Their money ends up in Net hands.

I’ve been a bandwagon Nets fan since VC joined Kidd. Never paid much attention to Nets much prior.

by mvmt84 on Feb 4, 2012 1:07 AM EST up reply actions

as long as you stick with the team, no one will give you crap

especially if you’re from the area. I too became a Nets fan when they got Kidd, but I was only 11 when it happened and had only known the Nets to be bad. I stuck with them though, and that’s all that matters.

OKC is bandwagon central

It’s pathetic. I relate have no respect for the bandwagon fan. Hell, to be honest, Durant is my favorite bball player. I love how he carries himself and re-upped in a small market. I wouldn’t tock his jersey because he isn’t a Net. Or anyone for that matter. Clown shoes, man.

a lot of sports fans work this way

I don’t get how you can justify to yourself, hoping on bandwagons with not a single thought. I like watching the T Wolves play, I hope they become a great team, but I wouldn’t become a fan and go to my local team’s games to cheer the bandwagon I just hopped on. that’s so lame

Morrow was unconscious tonight but the Nets didn’t have enough size inside to deal with the Wolves. DWill was forcing a lot of shots but he had to, Morrow and Farmar were pretty much the only guys scoring consistently. The turnover at the end was really disheartening after the work Morrow put in getting them back

by mytoemytoe on Feb 4, 2012 12:45 AM EST via mobile reply actions

Just got in......

Looks like DWILL didn’t show up on offense today and once again we let the other teams no name beat us…….Nice game by Morrow though…..?????

by NetFan48 on Feb 4, 2012 12:51 AM EST reply actions

It’s not that simple that “we let the other team’s no names beat us”. They exploited their size advantage down low.

Arena was awesome tonight, I thought. Exploded with every Anthony Morrow three and I lost my voice after that Morrow four-point play. Deron had some fun with the crowd, smiling and winking at a few courtside ticket holders, and I don’t think you’d see it on TV but Morrow was just more pumped than anyone else, howling on defense after each made three. Just a great energy. Only my second time at Prudential, so I don’t know if that’s rare.

Think the Wolves fans came from Rubio’s being Spanish and Wes Johnson coming from Syracuse.

by Accelerate on Feb 4, 2012 1:23 AM EST reply actions

Yeah those games are rare.

Sounds like the crowd from the Phoenix game last year where Morrow came up clutch and we lost too.

The Nets will wear their ABA throwback uniforms, blue with the white stripe and stars down the side, in five home games this season, beginning Monday against the Chicago Bulls. The other four dates are: Feb. 11 vs. the San Antonio Spur; Feb. 15 vs. the Memphis Girzzlies; Feb. 22 vs. the Orlando Magic, and March 7 vs. the L.A. Clippers.

FIRE AVERY NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

by Jron on Feb 4, 2012 3:10 AM EST reply actions

Avery can play Center?

We are short our starting center and the guy we got to replace him. Our options at center are a journeyman better suited for power forward, a rookie in the D-League a week ago, and Petro. I don’t know if you noticed but they also had to handle this guy Kevin Love who I hear is pretty good. Seriously, get real. Do you really believe that this roster is under achieving under Johnson?

by SovietBrooklyn on Feb 4, 2012 3:36 AM EST up reply actions   1 recs

No, I believe there has been better squeezing blood from stone lately.

But the key to coaching successfully in any sport, at any level, is seeing the obvious and making adjustments.
Avery fell back on some terrible old ways again when he failed to do so last night.

FYI: Rubio is a great defender. If there is one thing that I would like fans of other teams to know, it is this.

He’ll be put on DWill I’m guessing, and whoever Ridnour takes (Rid is currently our 2) will probably have abig night.

this was my thinking aswell.

He can stay. When Nets get Dwight; Morrow is going to have a great time on the court,
