Hump Out, Gaines Questionable, D-Will, Howard Mysterious

Kris Humphries, who made the Knicks frontcourt look ill on Monday, will be out with a sore calf Wednesday when the Nets battle Dwight Howard at Prudential Center. Also, the Nets reported that Sundiata Gaines (toe) is questionable but probably will play. On the other side of the ledger, Hedo Turkoglu didn't travel to New Jersey because of illness. Earl Clark and Jason Richardson are questionable.

But the big news out of Wednesday morning was the mystery surrounding the star of the evening, Howard. The object of the Nets affections avoided the media, quickly dashing past them at Prudential Center. And when the Nets beat writers asked Deron Williams if he and Howard had their traditional meal before playing against each other, D-Will responded, "I don't know. Did I?" Meanwhile, Stan Van Gundy just said "No" a lot.

The Nets are also planning a pyrotechnic show for pre-game.

Other way around.

DWill responded with “Who is that? I’ve never heard of Dwight Howard” or something to that affect and then Dwight replied he has dinner and talks with lots of players with a big guilty smile on his face.

Avery said Hump actually got injured a couple of games ago

But played through it.

“I think he did it couple of games ago, but he’s been managing it and fortunately, he was able to play for us against the Knicks,‘’ Johnson said of Humphries. "But if he’s got to miss a game, that’s because he’s injured – he plays with a lot of different ailments and aches and pains, so he’s definitely injured when he misses a game.’’

Rondo replaces him in the game

for the 3 point contest it should be either Steph Curry or Brandon Rush

Billy (Newark)
Does Deron Williams leave NJ this summer?

Chad Ford (1:22 PM)
Probably. The only scenario where he doesn’t is if the Nets swing a deal for Dwight Howard at the trade deadline. At that point, I think Williams hangs around. If that doesn’t happen, I think Williams will join Dwight Howard (assuming he’s not traded to the Lakers in March) in Dallas next summer. Lots of signals pointing to this being the preferred outcome for both players.

well imagine if that trade went down and howard still came to the nets in FA

since cousins and evans are still on rookie contracts, we would still have the cap room for another FA signing in addition to dwight…. THIS WILL NEVER HAPPEN but….

starting line up next season: (may even be better then the one with d will and howard)
Tyreak Evans
Marshon Brooks
Josh Smith
Demarcus cousins
Dwight howard

plus we would have a top 5 pick in the draft, (along with the rockets pick if they make the playoffs) since our line up for the rest of this year would be:

evans
marshon
stevenson
cousins
lopez

Very worried about tonight’s game.

I’ll be there in Section 22 yelling up a storm but I know the Incredible Hump brings a lot of this team’s energy.

I also saw how little energy Brook Lopez provided on Sunday.

I hope to be proven wrong, especially with Dwight in the building. The Nets strategy for stopping Dwight has to be, DON’T STOP DWIGHT! Don’t worry about it, guys. Stay on the Magic 3 point shooters like a glove and let Dwight have his points.

by mytoemytoe on Feb 22, 2012 1:48 PM EST reply actions

exactly.

Orlando wins when Anderson gets his points. Gotta stop him.

Wow.....Prudential Center's Facebook Post today.
Catch Brook Lopez in his second game of the season tonight at The Rock when the Nets host the Heat at 7:30 P.M. Deron Williams also looks to continue his offensive outburst after recording a season-high 38-points during Monday night’s win. Join the Nets tonight: http://bit.ly/AxK63D

They said we play the Heat, what a joke.

What... is Avery resting Hump for the playoffs like other teams?

No, Hump was playing and moving fine couple of days ago. He said he wasn’t hurt after the Knicks game. Hump should play. Pros shouldn’t be taking days off.

Avery is garbage. He’s suppose to be a discipline guy, but the team shows none of it.

by Malorkayel on Feb 22, 2012 2:29 PM EST up reply actions

it might be Hump's decision to not play

It's unprofessional, this and the reality tv show is ruining his image.

He also just said he loved to piss off all the NY fans. The brookly/NY fans that the team is moving to. Smart guy.

I have him on my fantasy team and he produce solid numbers, if he only knew how to clean up his image he would have been a star. But the guy is like mentally special.

by Malorkayel on Feb 22, 2012 2:35 PM EST up reply actions

WTF are you talking about?

Avery said he’s been playing injured this whole time. He played injured against the Knicks. He just couldn’t go today. If he went out there and made the injury worse, he would be shelved for the season along w/ Shawne and the others. If you can’t play, then you can’t play. Nothing unprofessional about the coach ruling you out for the game.

by Genesis336 on Feb 22, 2012 2:44 PM EST up reply actions

Hump mentioned nothing of injury during his ESPN interviews. He also showed no sign of it.

As a fan, this worries me. He injured himself doing something outside of Basketball.

by Malorkayel on Feb 22, 2012 2:48 PM EST up reply actions

OH well then!

You’ve based your diagnosis on watching a game on TV and a final cut ESPN interview. Man, oh, man, med school ain’t what it used to be!

you don't know whay goes on in the locker room. Just because he might not look hurt on the floor, doesn't mean that he isn't hurt.

Hump is a tough guy, and can play through pain. But you can’t do it all the time. Walsh probably advised him not to play tonight’s game, and Walsh is an experienced trainer who has been around for many years. If there’s one person i’d listen to about whether a guy should play or not play, Tim Walsh is that one guy. He knows what he’s doing. You aren’t in a position to question him.

by bbfan5117 on Feb 22, 2012 2:43 PM EST up reply actions

I hope you're right because Hump showed no sign of injury during the Knicks game.

Just like how the team said they were tired for Bucks game but fired up for Knicks game. They were saving it for the games they want to look good in. That’s not a winning formula and looks really bad for the coach.

by Malorkayel on Feb 22, 2012 2:46 PM EST up reply actions

Avery
“I think he did it couple of games ago, but he’s been managing it and fortunately, he was able to play for us against the Knicks,‘’ Johnson said of Humphries. "But if he’s got to miss a game, that’s because he’s injured – he plays with a lot of different ailments and aches and pains, so he’s definitely injured when he misses a game.’’

by Genesis336 on Feb 22, 2012 2:49 PM EST up reply actions

I personally think it's BS excuse.

The guy was making the rounds with interviews.

by Malorkayel on Feb 22, 2012 2:51 PM EST up reply actions

Melo strained his muscle and was out for the rest of the game.

Bargnani also strained is calf, he as pulled out immediately.

I have Hump on my Fantasy team and I track his injuries, there were no mention that he had a strain and even sat out plays.

by Malorkayel on Feb 22, 2012 2:56 PM EST up reply actions

He did one PHONE interview w/ Scott Van Pelt

He wasn’t wandering the ESPN offices going from place to place.

Hump has played through his injuries all season b/c of the injuries to other players on our rosters. Sounds like you care more about your fantasy team.
