Michael Beasley?

Now I acknowledge that I may be a little biased- I was a huge Beasley fan in college and always felt like he just needed the right opportunity to break through in the NBA. He has been relatively clean the last year and a half which is great news for him.

There are reports that the lakers were interested in picking up Beasley for a 2nd rounder. It seems like a no brainer to me that the Nets jump in on this and try and assess the situation for themselves and pick him up.

He has maturity issues, he hasn't fully applied himself, nor does he have a great reputation with coaches. Talent wise- very few players have had the kind of potential that Beasley had coming out of college. The guy can rebound, shoot, create, defend when he wants, and really thrown it down in fashion.

He showed us he can put a single season together last yr

73 32.3 7.7 17.1 .450 0.8 2.2 .366 3.0 4.0 .753 1.6 4.0 5.6 2.2 0.7 0.7 2.7 3.0 19.2

73 games 19.2 pts/5.6 rbds/ on 45% fg and 37% 3pt? Sounds good to me.

The guy also averaged nearly a block and steal a game. I think he can really benefit from the leadership of someone like Dwill. Not to mention the fact that he was in a sense- pushed out of rotation this yr with the timberwolves with their crowding at the 4/3. We certainly do not have that issue and can afford to give him the 28mpg+ .

His CAREER per 36minutes is also impressive

CareerNBA 7.9 17.3. 454 0.7 1.9 .358 3.1 4.1 .768 7.3 1.8 0.9 0.7 2.4 3.3 19.6

19.6 pts/ 7.3 rbnds/ 2 asts/ on 45% fg per 36 as his career. Again- still looks solid to me if he can clean up his attitude just a little bit. Avery has had a good track record with some knuckle heads and Popeye Jones seems to do great with athletic players who can rebound. I really think a combination of the factors in NJ can help propel Beasley to perform at an acceptable level.

Beasley can help bring some offensive punch to both our first and second units. He has never been a defensive liability and has shown some flashes. He is both fast, long, and strong enough to guard the 3/4. Our defense and offense at the 3 spot has been historically awful this entire year.

He is still so young (just 23!!!) .A second rounder for the possiblity of a quality starter or 6th man seems great to me.
