Brooklyn Vs. Dallas (eliminating Dwight)

I was just listening to Stephen A. Smith on Mike and Mike and he claims that it's a give-in that if the Nets miss out on D12, Deron is certainly gone to Dallas.

Then I thought about that statement and asked myself who has a better future: The Nets, or Dallas?

Eliminating the 30 million dollars which nobody knows if that will factor into his decision, and the big-city business, I honestly think that the Brooklyn Nets have a better future than Dallas.

MarShon Brooks and Brook Lopez, at 23 years old, are undoubtedly two up and coming stars in the NBA. In 4 or 5 years, I think that a core of Deron, marshon, and Brook surrounded by solid role players could contend in the East.

Dallas has Dirk, at age 33 as their best player who i think is on his way out in 4 or 5 years. Also starting is Vince, obviously not what he used to be and he is aging quickly. They have no rookies or young players showing promise.

I think what it will ultimately come down to how patient Dwill is willing to be, and how much the 30 million and the business opportunities factor into his decision.

Let me know what you think of this.

I think everyone knows the Nets have a better future

The 30 mil that everyone was saying isn’t actually 30 mil. I forget the exact numbers but it ends up being a less than 1mil pay cut per season and the bulk of that is based on the 5th year he can get with Orlando vice a 4 year deal with another team. He will certain sign a new contract after his 4th season (doesn’t matter with who) which will make that 5th year irrelevant.

As for Dirk, giving him 4 or 5 years is very generous. Not many players can consistantly perform at such a high leven past their mid 30’s. Kobe is the exception.

yeah this thing about Dwight's and i guess Deron's 30 million just annoys me

comes up all the time and it’s just lazy reporting. 4 yr deal vs 5 yr deal=obviously there’s a difference in the lump sum.

What I will say about Dirk is that on a team with Deron and Dwight, Dirk could stand in the corner and shot 3’s for 4 years

DIRK IS 35 years old

he will hit a wall within the next 3 seasons guaranteed

Nets have better pieces BUT...

without Dwight, we’re still the Nets with no star players. We may have a better young core than Dallas but they have the name recognition and that’s all that matters. All about perception.

"name recognition is all that matters"

i think you have forgotten that Brooklyn is the most internationally recognized sports destination in the world… if thats not name recognition, i dont know what is

Like I have said before

IMO Adidas has contract ready for Dwight. There might be a clause the says if Dwight signs as a FA, Adidas will add $30 million to deal. I would not be surprised. Dwight in Brooklyn during the summer was probably for Adidas.

I can already see a MY ADIDAS ad with Rev Run at the Barclay Center.

IMO Dwight Agent has endorsements lined up.

not to be a downer but i'm pretty sure Adidas has the contract lined up for him if he goes to LA as well

probably just about any big city…(except maybe minnesota..lol) somebody as Famous and as well known as Dwight can Rep Adidas no matter where he is

by Prokyswallet on Feb 21, 2012 6:25 PM EST up reply actions

addidas would actually preffer him in Brooklyn then LA

and thats a fact, dwight is due for a 250 million dollar+ contract from them next yeat

this what i have been saying, unless Dwight goes to Dallas, i don't see any real competion for Deron.

he is not going to choose Dirk, Marion and Carter all on the wrong side of thier careers over the promise of brooklyn, and a great core of Lopez, Brooks,Ammo and two good draft picks in a loaded draft..not to mention if Dwight goes elsewehre i’m pretty sure Billy has some other trades in the works to improve the team

by Prokyswallet on Feb 21, 2012 6:21 PM EST reply actions

that Dallas core may be on the wrong side of their career but..

-they won the title last year
-they’re great again this year
-we’ve sucked with Brooks and Ammo
-we’ve sucked with Ammo and Lopez

Not sure he chooses us over Dallas in a Dwight-less situation.

Although we have a better shot a Dwight which is our trump card.

the question was who has a better future

not who has a better immediate future

Don't Forget The Sign & Trade Option....

DWILL doesn’t have to give up any money, and could still be with another team next year. Instead of us just losing him completely, with nothing coming back our way, we could sign and trade him, and then he gets ALL the money, and we get something in return. But if we keep DWILL, then it was a great trade. Devin stinks, and it is really showing in Utah, and Favors has shown little progress in his second season and Kanter, the pick we gave Utah this past draft, hasn’t played either much or well. Over the last two weeks, DWILL has shown he may be the top Scoring/PG in the league right now.

Sign & Trade Option....

Is this still there with the new CBA?

by PigDaddy3 on Feb 21, 2012 11:33 PM EST up reply actions

You are wrong

that is no longer possible under the new CBA. The team acquiring a free agent through a S&T cannot offer the 5th year and higher raises the home team can.

Dallas has a proven front office

The Nets do not. I like what’s been done so far, but Donny and Cuban is a proven combination for success.

by MyNetsForLife on Feb 21, 2012 11:29 PM EST reply actions

why do you think the 76ers are the surprise team of the league

because Billy King set up the perfect foundation for them… Billy King is a proven front office member, and Proky is the richest owner in the league by more then 200 x…. MONEY IS POWER

and before cuban won it all last year

he was known as a cancer to the team and a bafoon… but now that he suddenly wins a championship he becomes the best most successful owner in the league

The question is not

is Deron, Brook, and Marshon better than Dwight and Dirk. The question is are Deron, Brook, and Marshon better than Deron, Dwight and Dirk. The answer to that question is an undeniable NO. We need to secure Dwights services now or hope Dallas does not find a way to unload Marion.

by rodrain2 on Feb 22, 2012 8:06 AM EST reply actions

NO

if you read the fan post you were asked to exclude dwight howard, and for my sake d-will as well

the question is who has a brighter future:

the nets with Lopez, and marshon brooks, or dallas with dirk and kidd

its obvious that the nets have a brighter future, maybe not in the short term but most definitely in the long term

we definitely have a better future

we are in the process of creating the most state of the art stadium in the whole entire world, not to mention dirk is 35
