D-Will in All-Star Skills Competition

Deron Williams will be part of the All-Star Weekend's Skills Competition along with five other top NBA guards: Stephen Curry, the defending champ; Russell Westbrook; Tony Parker; Kyrie Irving and John Wall.

The event will be held on All-Star Saturday night, which starts at 8 p.m. ET. The six guards race through an "obstacle course," a series of passes, free throws, lay-ups and agility drills. Williams won the competition in 2008, setting the record at 25.5 seconds.

The skills competition precedes the Three Point Shootout which includes Anthony Morrow. The Rising Stars Challenge, with MarShon Brooks, is Friday night at 9 p.m. and the All-Star Game itself, Sunday at 7 p.m. D-Will, of course, is an reserve.

Parker always struggles on the shooting part, Wall and Westbrook have great straight line speed but not quickness when cutting with the ball plus they do not have the passing touch to blow by this at their full speed

Kyrie is unknown but I feel Curry will still be the biggest threat unless Curry decides to botch layups again

Wanted to ask all of you

How do you feel about Deron Williams and his performance from the beginning till today. We are playing horribly, and can’t win 2 games in a row even if the other teams let us.

however with that being said this is Deron Williams’ stats at this point.

SEASON AVERAGES

NJ 11-12- 0.410 FG%, 0.352 3P%; 21.7 PPG; 8.3 APG; 4.1 TO; 1.1 SPG; 3.4 RPG
Carreer: – 0.458 FG%, 0.354 3P%; 17.5 PPG; 9.2 APG; 3.1 TO; 1.1 SPG; 3.3 RPG

Feel free to bash, I won’t be offended as I’m directly asking your opinions.

by Roccor420 on Feb 20, 2012 3:39 PM EST reply actions

This

He has a placeholder roster that is in a holding pattern around him. Give him Blake/Deandre/Butler/Billups like Paul has or Boozer/Deng/Noah like Rose has and he is just as good, if not better, than any point guard in the league.

by dwill8brooklynbound on Feb 20, 2012 3:42 PM EST up reply actions

after watching him this season

i would argue he is top 3 pg easily. he’s not even very fit in terms of nba players but he’s very quick, incredible dribble (when he doesn’t turn it over) has taken it to the rim and dunked on multiple occasions this season. his fg% is down but his ppg is +4. his assist only went down 1 on average and his turnovers went up 1 as well. that’s not too bad considering he has had very little to work with this season.

by Roccor420 on Feb 20, 2012 3:48 PM EST up reply actions

i completely agree

but i’m just talking about as is. I would love Lopez to have been healthy all season but he hasn’t . I’m pretty confident if Lopez was healthy his stats would have changed as well but i wanted to know what your opinion is currently of Dwill considering our record etc.

by Roccor420 on Feb 20, 2012 3:44 PM EST up reply actions

i'm not that mad about his FG %

if you watch the games, he takes a lot of shots eh wouldn’t normally take because often times there’s no one else on the court that can put the ball in the basket. he’s shooting too much, but sometimes he has to so we don’t fall out of the game.

by sheepareevil on Feb 20, 2012 3:43 PM EST up reply actions

exactly my thinking

and that affects his turnover rate going up by 1 as well because he’s taking more bad shots. however we all know stats don’t tell you everything which is why i wanted to ask.

Reminded me of when AJ ripped into Outlaw last year…

by M I K E on Feb 20, 2012 3:54 PM EST up reply actions

he yelled at brooks

a few games ago as well. I like what brooks can do in terms of his defensive (more stealing and offensive rebounds) but if he can’t figure out what he’s supposed to be doing on the court that’s a problem. it’s a small sample size but a pattern is emerging where he doesn’t know what he’s doing on the court. if it’s like this for the rest of the season, it’s not just rust.

given that, i still want him on this team. hate that we may have to give him up.

yeah but i have been reading rumours

which are just that rumours that lakers are shopping pau gasol. if they are, why wouldn’t orlando be interested. it would take more than just pau gasol but that’s at least assuming that lakers FO are inclined to trade him. whether that bodes well for us in that lakers won’t trade bynum for dwight, but if they do a gasol bynum deal for dwight does make sense.

you can argue that kobe and dwight had a falling out or that it’ll be kobe’s team and not dwights, but when you’re talking about wanting to win, the nets are a great choice, but not the only one.

I still think Brooklyn and Deron is a better fit and all news lately point to us, but we can’t assume it’s a lock with lakers now willing to trade gasol.

you would think

i mean if we do fire avery, realistically how many coaches are able to be recruited and secondly, would any coach really want to come in and coach the nets right now?

if anything, it would have to happen after dwight comes here and if we still can’t win after that, then aver will probably be fired.

plus we do have rick as an assistant coach, i wouldn’t mind seeing how fratello coaches the rookies/sophmore game as i’ve loved him as an announcer for the nets. he always makes for the most part the right suggestions for the team live. of course the nets usually do exact opposite as he says.

by Roccor420 on Feb 20, 2012 4:10 PM EST up reply actions

I think it has more to do with him not having a decent team to coach

like i keep saying over and over if the celtics had fired doc rivers before the kg and allen acquisitions would anyone they hired have been better

if they missout on dwight and deron leaves the team will spend the money they have its that simple so either way the team will be drastically different next season either as a perrenial young playoff contender or a possible nba champion contender

by mightymosdefinition on Feb 20, 2012 4:20 PM EST up reply actions

Unfortunately

Avery cant get fired this year. Injuries and Lockout will be an excuse.

Interesting the Knicks just claimed they are done dealing, and now

The Lakers have said the same:

“Of course we’ll talk to a lot of teams [about trades], like everybody else does, leading up until the trade deadline to see if there is a way to improve the team,” Kupchak said. “But the likelihood is that this is the team that’s going to finish into the playoffs. That’s just the way it normally works, but we’ll see.”

Yeah and probably in responsse to Kobe looking for resoltion with Gasol trade rumors

Kobe likes Gasol a lot, which has been why I almost believe those 3rd option/Tyson Chandler comments he supposedly said to Dwight. Gasol is a better passer than Dwight with a more versatile offensive game and Kobe knows he would get the ball more from Gasol.

by Jack Handy Jr on Feb 20, 2012 4:11 PM EST up reply actions

BTW... Saw someone mention maybe we would better with Melo in another thread

Just wanted to point out:

39% shooting from the field – lowest of his career
29% from 3 – lowest since 06-07
6.0 rpg – lowest since 06-07
Paid $20m a year.

I think even if we had AK, we'd be a good team if Brook didn't go down

D.Will / Farmar
Brooks / Morrow
AK / Stevenson
Hump / Jordan
Lopez / Shelden

Would be in the playoffs right now IMO.

There was that article about if we had a SF, but I can’t imagine how bad our stats have been at C with Petro and Shelden. Add a top 5 C and an at least average SF and we would be over .500 and battling for home court if all went well.

by Jack Handy Jr on Feb 20, 2012 5:18 PM EST up reply actions

Don't you love when Deron crosses people up

in the last game deron had an amazing dribbling show

to throw a behind the back no look pass to shelden…who of course…misses it and goes out of bounds. before the pass he got away from 2 defenders doing a behind the back through the legs type move. it was incredible, only to be considered a turnover because of our stellar bigs.

This

he has a decent 15 foot jump shot, but with Chandler under the rim having him drive would be a disaster.

Noah? Was he in fould trouble that game?

Hump got him in foul trouble

I think its similar to

The bulls and Pacers front line PF’s who have slow feet, see what Hump can do played well in both those games. Not many other options where so depleted see if we can get some fouls on there front line.

He can do a decent enough job

Stat plays the same amount of defense as Boozer when you go at him.

Nets can win if they make 3s and limit turnovers.

Looking forward to the hump boos.

It doesn’t appear to effect his game one bit. Now only if someone else can step up aside from him and D-Will. Third man is the key for us tonight. Morrow? Brooks?

Both

and we need Stevenson to play some good D on Melo. And Deron needs to make Lin counterproductive

Unless he is going to walk the ball up the court,

he has to get a pass in the post to do them.

Seriously, I understand his fustration. AVERY seems to have the same problem SVG has.

HE HASNT TOLD THE GUARDS TO PASS THE BALL TO THE BIG MAN.

Showing Knicks schedule

“So tonight they face the Nets, who are at the bottom of the cellar in the division, but that’s okay because Dwight Howard is coming any minute, right? At least that’s what we’ve been hearing for a month.”

I think it's fine.

Petro would never be in the highlights

he always fouls the opposing player so they don’t do anything amazing
