Barclays Center Tourist Attraction?

Barclays Center - January 31 (Tom Kaminski, WCBS Chopper 880)

Lost in the construction alerts, critics complaints and other minutia is the reality that Barclays Center's opening is going to signal a new era in Brooklyn. The borough --and the city-- are likely to push September 28 as a touchstone in Brooklyn's revival. So much so, it's now being discussed as a tourist attraction.

amNY quotes the operation of a Brooklyn tourist bus tour. "When all is said and done, it will be another jewel in the crown of Brooklyn," Tony Muia, who runs "A Slice of Brooklyn" bus tour, said of the arena. Others spoke of how the arena will help spur the construction of Brooklyn hotels and other development nearby.

Off topic

But by the time we play Knicks they might be 8-15 and we could be 9-15. That would lead us to a great showdown on saturday. Whoeever wins will have better record. That game on saturday is hugh.

“We normally give a set of nets to the guy that is ‘the most valuable player’ of the game

Great quotes
“I was like, ’Where’s everybody else?’ " D-Will said. “They were like, ‘This is it.’”
“It was a good win for us, the way we battled after that tough one yesterday,” Deron said after the game. “We knew it was going to be a tough game for us just due to a lack of bodies. We played last night and a lot of us played big minutes. But we just knew that they played three games in three nights, so they should be a little fatigued as well. We tried to use that to our advantage.”
“I told them they were “The Great Eight” tonight and that’s the only way you can look at it. I told them that before the game and I told them the same after," Johnson said. “We normally give a set of nets to the guy that is ‘the most valuable player’ of the game. But we cut it up into eight pieces tonight because each one of them deserved it. Everybody contributed tonight.”
“It makes a difference. I was playing games. A lot of guys worked out and worked out hard. But there’s no way to simulate an actual game,” he said. "I’ve been playing now for five months so I definitely feel like I’m in great shape right now.

“It’s allowing me to play these heavy minutes I’m having to play right now because so many guys are out.”
“We’re just trying to get as many wins as possible,” he said. “Early on in the season, I was letting it effect me too much, getting too down [after losses]. I’m just trying to be positive. It’s a tough situation we’re in with all these guys going down, being hurt. I have to take it upon myself as the leader of this team to step up and make plays on both ends of the court.”
“We’re just playing a lot better together,” he said. “Early on there was no continuity, no consistency from anywhere. We weren’t playing good basketball. Now we’re starting to get comfortable with each other and making basketball plays. Things are coming a lot easier.”
“That was very big,” D-Will said. “They were doubling me at the end of the game and he made a great basketball play, saw the back of a defender’s head and cut to the basket. He made a great play. I knew we were going to need [Keith] tonight, especially once AmMo (Anthony Morrow) went down. We knew he was going to have to play some minutes for us tonight. But he came in in great shape. He’s ready to go. He’s been working out so I wasn’t surprised at all.”

For a flexible, cheap contract? Sure

If not, he can go to the Heat or Bulls and get the ring he deserves.

180 events?

Ummm - what “180 events” are they talking about… I see basically 47 for Nets basketball… and then some random shows. Unless JayZ plans to have 50 concerts

by anothernetsfan on Feb 2, 2012 4:43 PM EST reply actions

need to find better events

If they plan on actually making it a bit attraction… you can’t have the Atlantic-10 and then equestrian. That is not going to cut it vs. MSG

by anothernetsfan on Feb 2, 2012 4:48 PM EST up reply actions

Barclays already will be the Summer 2012 and 2013 venue for any big named tour coming to NYC due to the renovations at MSG. That’s not a bad start at all.

boxing, tennis, college basketball, concerts, Ringling Bros, etc., etc.

Was looking at this...

http://barclayscenter.com/events_calendar.html

If I do a quick glance and add in basketball, I don’t get many events. I’m hoping there are more given the All-Access pass pitch they are giving. No offense to Barnum & Bailey but if they fill up with those types of events, the all-access pass isn’t worth anything

As much as I've slammed Simmons over the past couple of days for his Nets Haterade

I agree with this:

I’m not sure people appreciate how fully wide-open the 2012 playoffs are, or how easy it would be for eight to 10 different teams to sneak into the Finals with one shrewd move. The 2012 title will be decided by injuries, deadline trades and luck. And not in that order.

by Anthony Perez on Feb 2, 2012 4:48 PM EST reply actions

Playoffs...

Outside of obviously keeping DWill happy, is there really ANY benefit over the long-run for us to get in the Playoffs or look like we might sneak in? Makes the pick less valuable to Orlando or even to ourselves if Dwight goes to FA

by anothernetsfan on Feb 2, 2012 4:54 PM EST up reply actions

I can give you a bunch of reasons

1) Pride
2) You don’t play to lose
3) Keep Deron happy
4) Dignity
5) Earn their money
etc

Once the Nets trade their pick (and make the playoffs), Orlando will go into a downward spiral, and suddenly becomes a lottery team with a good pick.

by JimmyLips on Feb 2, 2012 5:28 PM EST via iPhone app up reply actions

Once we trade for Dwight, who cares if the pick is less valuable to Orlando?

If it comes down to getting to the off-season, the pick isn’t going to Orlando anyway.
