The Nets will be wearing New York Nets throwback uniforms February 6 vs. the Bulls and now, the NBA store is offering Deron Williams ABA Hardwood Classic jerseys online.

The NBA is honoring the anniversary of the founding of the ABA by permitting ABA teams to wear either their old colors on certain nights starting this week. The Pacer, the Nets' big ABA rival, were the first to wear the throwback jerseys this week. Of course, with the upcoming move to Brooklyn, the "New York Nets" theme was special meaning tor the Nets.

Any word on when they might release our new logo/colors?

I remember NI hinted it would be February, which could be any day now. Perhaps All Star weekend?

I think these should be the new uniforms replacing 'New York' with 'Brooklyn'

I believe a lot of Nets fans share that sentiment. These unis are iconic.

back to the original post...

Despite the ’72 Finals, Nets-Pacers was never much. But they both had huge playoff rivalries with the Kentucky Colonels. Colonels were a great franchise, too bad John Y. Brown took a payout instead of being part of the merger.

I think the new uniforms are going to wind up looking a lot like these throwbacks. I think the stars and stripes will be updated to a more subtle, modern feel.

No one’s very sure what the colors are going to be, although I wouldn’t be surprised if they keep the same colors since they’re keeping the same name, maybe swapping the Net blue for the Jay Z blue.

His jumpshot isn't the problem. I don't mind an occassional 15 footer from near the FT line.

The problem is why doesn’t he play more like Sheldon and stay near the basket on offense and stick to his man on defense.
Why doesn’t he just try to use 2 hands to get the ball firmly, instead of bobbling the ball or missing a putback. Does he think making 1 of 5 putbacks justifies not getting possession of ball first? He isn’t The Hump.

Team names are brands....

…and a brand is more than just recognition. Its about the meaning, what they stand for, and their appeal.

That’s why “Brooklyn” has global appeal. Its not necessarily recognized by common people in places like China and Russia, but once they do and they understand what it stands for, it can be easily as attractive as “New York”.

It's not that significant

1) The Nets needed veterans, Bogans was perfect regardless of who is agent is

2) If anything, it just shows that Fegan and BK talk about things. Does that surprise anyone, considering Howard and the Magic have already told the press that Fegan can talk to the Nets?

NBA agents can make a lot more money in players endorsement contracts...Hmmm ?
Sports agent generally receives between 4 and 10% of the athlete’s playing contract, and 10 to 20% of the athlete’s endorsement contract, though these figures vary. An NFL agent is not allowed to receive more than 3% of his client’s playing contract, and an NBA agent is not permitted to receive more than 4% of his client’s playing contract.

I agree. I think Farmar has been playing at a high level this year.

Some of the Farmar bashing on here is unwarranted and we shouldn’t expect a top tier point guard play out of him. He has been great at hitting shots from the outside this year and providing a spark.

He does have a tendency to force the issue and just wildly run in the paint; however more often than not he’s making the better play.

I really miss Brook because no other big we have even comes close to putting up 20PPG. Many thought Okur would, but he just hasn’t.

ok. I'm just sharing my opinion and it's disrespectful for you to laugh.

IMO, Farmar has been doing a great job replacing MarShon, during his injury. Essentially, what does MarShon do? He provides offense.
Farmar has been doing just that.

Nets beat Philly and Cavs without MarShon.

Reading comprehension buddy.

You are just making assumptions on what people are writing.

Its like if someone said, “I don’t have any apples (Marshon) at the moment, but oranges (Farmar) are tasting pretty good right now” and you say, “OMG. Are you saying oranges taste better than apples?”

Put it in simple terms and then you can understand your error in comprehension.

Speaking of the ABA and Kentucky...

when young Nets fans get depressed they should read some past Nets history.

1968: The Playoff Game That Never Happened

New Jersey’s 36-42 finish earned the team a tie with the Kentucky Colonels for the fourth and final playoff spot in the ABA’s Eastern Division. A single-game playoff was scheduled to determine which team would advance to face the Minnesota Muskies in the first round of postseason play. Unfortunately for the Americans, the Teaneck Armory was booked for a circus on the scheduled date. Owner Arthur Brown scrambled to find an alternate site and managed to reserve Commack Arena in the Long Island, New York, town of the same name.

When the teams showed up for the game, however, they found that the court was in unplayable condition, with floorboards loose, bolts unscrewed, and basket stanchions unpadded. The Colonels refused to play. ABA commissioner George Mikan ruled the game a forfeit, with Kentucky the winner. The Americans’ first taste of postseason action had ended without so much as an opening jump ball.

ABA games were the best

Watching the Kentucky Colonels play was when I first fell in love with the game of basketball. It’s good to see the NBA honoring the ABA. Especially when you consider all of the great ABA players that went on to have stellar careers in the NBA.

Dwill is playing like a top PG right now. Wasn’t the case 3 1/2 weeks ago.

"Beware the Ides of March."

by Andy. on Feb 2, 2012 12:22 PM EST up reply actions

Totally agree!!!

In Kurt rambis’s top five he had Dwill ranked 4th behind Westbrook (3rd), Rose (2nd) and of course Paul (1st). This is all misleading because if you look at the stats one could make a case for Dwill being the best PG in the league. 1. Considering the lack of talent he has had to play with this season he is averaging 20.5 ppg and 8.5 assists with 186 totals assists. Let’s look at. The PG’s ahead of him according to Kurt Rambis:
3. Westbrook-team is significantly better than the nets and has a superstar in Kevin Durant to play with and shoulder the load averages 21.9 ppg, 5.7 apg and has a total of 119 assists. He is not better than Dwill.
2. D-rose-again a better cast of characters around him than Dwill has and I think we all agree that he is a better overall player than he is a True PG. Rose averages 23.1 ppg, 7.7 apg and has 147 total assists. As far as true natural PG’s go Dwill is better!
1. Paul-like a broken record he too has a way better cast of teammates then Dwill has, Paul averages 19.2 ppg and 9.1 apg with 127 total assists. If I had to pick between these two Dwill 1A, Paul 1B, based off of the team each one plays for.
So in a nutshell Dwill is the best PG in the league!!!

About Deron from Hollinger
Inevitable; by the way, he had a wicked throwdown on Hibbert two days ago that was completely obscured by Blakemania. More importantly, the Nets are grinding out some wins and leaving the door open for a playoff run if they can get Dwight at the deadline. Can you imagine Miami earning the top seed only to face a 31-35 Nets team with Deron and Dwight in Round 1?

Possibly but he's not interested in us

If we had Dwight yeah but he wants to go to a contender.

Probably right

I think he goes to L.A. or maybe the Knicks (relationship with Melo) before he comes here. But I mean I’m sure he wouldn’t be too opposed to a reunion if the Nets can clear a roster spot

honestly have no idea

but reports are saying he’s an unrestricted free agent, so I’m assuming he can sign a multiyear deal

He needs Dwight and Dwill to come on. F the Knicks. Didnt he visit the Barclay Center already too?

Westbrook is so over rated

For Westbrook to be over Deron or Paul is jut plain sick. He is a great player but really, westbrook owe deron? I think Rose and Paul are both better but Westbrook? That’s a joke

by nwkiddnj on Feb 2, 2012 3:58 PM EST up reply actions

obviously I like Deron

but Chris Paul is still far and away the best PG in the league. come on son.

I don't understand how people can rate Rose higher than DWill

Rose might be the better player but DWill is the better PG by far.

I will always rank a Pass First PG as the best PG in the league

I dont like this influx of SGs that are too short so they have to be PGs.

That said
DWill - 30 and 10 how many times and he has to score.
Paul - Love the guy but I love the guy we got more.
Rondo - Like that he realized that he cant be a SG on that Boston team and likes to pass.
Westbrook - He would be below Rose but he HAS TO PASS THE BALL because of DURANT
Rose - People rank this guy high as a PG but he is just another Iverson – SG in a PG body- He is a Great Player but he isnt the BEST PG – Best Guard I can except but not PG
Nash - would be higher but he is getting old.

I agree

but he wanted to be traded.

Their mistake was listening to him. they should have never traded him. Not only was it a mistake because it was Patrick “F’en” Ewing but it didnt make financial sense.

Let Patrick Ewings contract come off the books. Present a final contract for him to retire a Knick. If he didnt like it, then it wasnt your fault you tried to keep him. Then you would have had cap space to do whatever you wanted. Instead they got an overpaid Glenn Rice. SMH!!!!

That was the beginning of what the Knicks are now.

I never realized how MONSTROUS Jordan's '89 season was
2. Do you realize that LeBron is having one of the greatest statistical seasons of all time?

I always thought Jordan’s 1988-89 season (32.5 PPG, 8.0 APG, 8.0 RPG, 2.9 SPG, 53.8 percent FG, 85 percent FT, 31.1 PER) was the most impressive statistical season by a modern perimeter player … and yet, here’s LeBron averaging 29.2 points, 8.3 rebounds, 7.1 assists, 55 percent shooting and a 33.38 PER (highest ever) during a condensed schedule. It’s impossible. How can someone have their greatest season during THIS season?

http://www.grantland.com/story/_/id/7523441/20-questions-part-1

Don’t get me wrong, Lebron is having a great year, but considering:

1. The nature of the NBA (physicality)
2. Speaking of physicality, the body type difference between the two
3. More assists to lesser player for Jordan
4. Though this season is condensed, Jordan did all of that (higher numbers everywhere) consistently through 82 games.

Crazy
