Cuban: "I Hope The Nets Suck"

Mark Cuban, one of the world's richest men and owner of the defending Dallas Mavericks, seems to be obsessed with the Big Russian. When asked before the Mavericks-Knicks game what he thought of the Nets plans for Brooklyn (which he supported as a member of the NBA Board of Governors) he told reporters the following, as tweeted by Al Iannazzone.

'I hope the stadium works, I hope they do a great job and I hope the team sucks.' said the always quotable Cuban.

Why might he feel this way about the Nets? Billionaire jealousy (Mikhail Prokhorov has about ten times the Cuban fortune)? Or it his fear that the Nets will hurt his chances of building his next championship around a new big three (Dirk Nowitzki, Deron Williams and Dwight Howard)?; or perhaps he just enjoys being a jerk.

ORL wants to gain leverage

JIM BUSS said Dwight doesn’t want to go there, THE END.

ORL also gave Dwight’s agent permission to talk to DAL and we all know they have nothing to get a trade done. It’s just the fact that ORL wants some leverage.

Cuban is praying Dwight somehow changes his mind and goes to LA and

That’s the only shot he has at Deron. He has none at Deron & Dwight.

Not really, cause he will have D12 in his conference forever ....

His comment really isnt that infuriating, of course he wants us to suck.

He wants the other 28 teams to suck as well. With the Nets in particular, he knows how closely his future depends on what happens with the Nets/Dwight/Deron. He also knows that the Nets are currently in the lead in this situation so he’s wishing ill will upon us. Sounds to me like an owner giving a damn about his team.

That being said, yes he could have said it a little more nicely, but its Mark Cuban. That’s why people love him or hate him

ORL to start losing, with help from Dwight.
The last time I told Dwight he needed to lose some games, ORL went on that losing streak that had the media convinced that Howard wasn’t playing hard.

Lets hope Howard sends another message to DeVos, between now and March 1:

Nice Gesture by Morrow

But I think he’s one of the players that will be moved to make room from Howard if he is going to hit free agency. Lets face it Petro will take a 1st rounder for someone to take him but it would be simple to move Morrow & Farmar while using the stretch exemption on Shawne Williams

by N.Ireland Nets Fan on Feb 19, 2012 5:52 PM EST up reply actions

Sorry didnt make myself clear I think

Im saying in the event of more cap space being needed if Howard was to hit free agency they would need to get rid of two of Shawne Williams, Petro, Morrow & Farmar. Basically the easiest by far would be Morrow and Farmar while stretching Williams contract.

Theres no way they trade Brooks to make cap room, hes on a rookie deal and looks good. Think I confused you with what I wrote.

I know Mark Cuban tangentially – and I can tell you, he’s just messing around. He’s basically saying that he hopes they stink, just like he hopes every other team stinks, other than his own. i.e. he wants to win titles. He was being tongue in cheek about it. He was clearly wishing them well otherwise, and just threw that in there to be obnoxious – wink wink …. I’m sure it wasn’t personal.
