How Soon Will Brook Lopez Play? Could Be Saturday vs. Bulls!

The Nets have updated their injury status report and Brook Lopez is listed as "questionable" for Saturday's game vs. the Bulls. With three games in three days starting Saturday afternoon, the Nets need bodies. if Lopez plays, he will have been out eight weeks. He underwent surgery December 23. The prognosis then was he would be out six to eight weeks.

Before the announcement, Lopez was asked if he could play back-to-back-to-back after missing nearly half the season.

"I feel like, I’ve been sitting out the whole season, storing it in a tank, I’m ready to go,'' he said. "I feel like I’ve got the energy to get through it. The adrenaline, hopefully, would help me.''

He is athletic and can actually dunk a basketball (I’m looking at you Morrow and Stevenson) and plays good defense.

by dwill8brooklynbound on Feb 17, 2012 3:17 PM EST up reply actions

I think it's absurd

That morrow is 6’5/6’6 and can’t dunk

by anothernetsfan on Feb 17, 2012 3:19 PM EST up reply actions

oh weird

why does he look 500x more athletic in that play than any play this season

by anothernetsfan on Feb 17, 2012 3:20 PM EST up reply actions

because he's playing heavier minutes

he doesn’t look so un-athletic in short spurts i suppose.

by SamsHops on Feb 17, 2012 8:11 PM EST up reply actions

what the ef

how come we don’t see that morrow playing on the nets. don’t get me wrong I like the guy, I love his shooting but his defense and fire are questionable sometimes.

that was a sweet dunk man.

by Roccor420 on Feb 17, 2012 3:40 PM EST up reply actions

Man I hope he comes back soon

And for that matter okur also. Because that would mean less of petro

by NetsVC15 on Feb 17, 2012 3:13 PM EST reply actions   1 recs

Let him play! Let him play!

OR ELSE WE’RE STUCK WITH GOD DAMN PETRO.

by NetsKiNG on Feb 17, 2012 3:13 PM EST reply actions   1 recs

you know what's really wierd?

i can see what the beat writers and scouts were talking about when looking at petro. he should have all the skills he needs to be a good center in the NBA, he just sucks!!!

he’s tall, big body, long arms, athletic, i KNOW he can dunk but he just stinks at it. we’ve seen him do post moves, jumpshots, bank shots, etc. randomly and be successful.

by Roccor420 on Feb 17, 2012 3:42 PM EST up reply actions

100% agree

It’s mind-boggling. He has some physical tools, just ZERO clue how to use them effectively.

He got burned by Paul George in line to SportsCenter Top 10. Ugh.

by ZR on Feb 17, 2012 3:47 PM EST up reply actions

WHEN YOU DESCRIBE the prototypical NBA center, he is not complete without superlative size, strength and athleticism. He’ll fight for the tough rebounds in the trenches, but is just as quick to burn you with a shot from 15 feet.
Johan Petro possesses all of these skills and more, and bears all the promise of fulfilling his vast potential.

by bronxbombers2 on Feb 17, 2012 4:09 PM EST up reply actions

At this point I'd be shocked if he doesn't play against the knicks

It seems like such a long time sice I’ve seen lopez play
I’m really excited to see him back on the court

Dwill must be ecstatic that he’s getting his most deadliest weopon back

by sipitioking on Feb 17, 2012 3:17 PM EST reply actions

Honestly while that may be true I just wan't to see Dwill and Lopez play together

They looked great together kast season during a short time

As far as playoffs go they just have to take it one game at a time and then you never know, win a few games in a row and get dwight and the slim possibility exists

by sipitioking on Feb 17, 2012 3:22 PM EST up reply actions

actually....

if we win the next 27 out of 35 games we’ll be right back in it.

Just need a 27 game winning streak….or basically we can only lose another 8 games for the rest of the season.

by Roccor420 on Feb 17, 2012 3:51 PM EST up reply actions

At least ppl appreciate him more

Or at least till he get his shot blocked trying to shoot over 3 defenders. Or a 2 rebound game . How does a 7’r grab only 2 RBs ?

All hating aside , I think Lopez will go beast mode and show us we don’t need Dwight.

by Zartan on Feb 17, 2012 3:49 PM EST up reply actions

This team is unwatchable until he comes back

Plus Brook has a lot of doubters around the NBA to prove wrong. He is sooo much better than he is given credit for. The fact that the magic have floated the rumor that they would rather have no one than brook is ridiculous.

by tategeorge on Feb 17, 2012 3:17 PM EST reply actions

and a few beat writers (non-nets)

have said he’s the most overrated player in the NBA.

I could not believe what I was reading. Overrated?? If anything he is completely underrated.

by Roccor420 on Feb 17, 2012 3:52 PM EST up reply actions

I will take that any day of the week

right now nets fans are going at other nets fans throats because we are all sharing in this misery of our losing streak and the “He who shall not be named sanity” going over across the river.

Wow !... Great that Brook is feeling so good.
Lopez was asked if he thought he could play three games in three nights after missing the entire season so far.

“I feel like, I’ve been sitting out the whole season, storing it in a tank, I’m ready to go,‘’ he said. ”I feel like I’ve got the energy to get through it. The adrenaline, hopefully, would help me.’’

Nets are being super cautious...and they should be.
"I don’t know. I ask every day,‘’ Lopez said. "I ask, pretty much every day. They just, pretty much just shake their heads and walk away.’

by M I K E on Feb 17, 2012 3:31 PM EST up reply actions

yeah I understand why.. i mean the dude is 7"1.. foot injury to big guys is serious stuff. just ask Yao Ming..

by deepen03 on Feb 17, 2012 4:42 PM EST up reply actions

so sad about Yao

I really wanted him back healthy. Guy was so good when healthy. I mean there are like only 10 people in the WORLD in HISTORY that were 7’6 or higher, and 4 of the 7’6 were in the NBA. Out of the 4, only 1 was productive and a good player. That is Yao Ming. The others were like Shawn Bradley, George Muresan and I forget who else.

The human body just isn’t made to be 7’6, and if you get to be that big and can play great basketball, you’re not made to play 82 games over a season and then go back to China and play in their national team etc.

He was a workhorse of China and the ran him to the ground like everything else.

by Roccor420 on Feb 17, 2012 4:52 PM EST up reply actions

The question is, are we holding him back because we are tanking?

It is not out of the realm of possibility that the Nets are tanking to make their pick better. Either way, if we end up with Dwight, it is not a terrible strategy. It 1 makes a tradeable asset better so we can possibly hang on to Marshon, or if we can sign Dwight as a FA, this team will be scary.

I think that Deron has bought into this, that is why he is not angry.

At the end of the day, losing now protects us from Deron leaving us with nothing and us rebuilding also.

by tategeorge on Feb 17, 2012 3:25 PM EST reply actions

I think we're holding him back...

because if he gets a chronic injury from coming too early. That trade with Dwight is totally hosed

by anothernetsfan on Feb 17, 2012 3:26 PM EST up reply actions

i think both of you may have a point

but the objective side of me can’t agree that a franchise and/or organization would purposely lose by either telling their players to lose or holding back players from coming back.

especially with Deron Williams on the hook. I mean no trade request yet so things are looking solid but a lot can change in 2 weeks

Just look at the knicks.

by Roccor420 on Feb 17, 2012 3:58 PM EST up reply actions

yeah..idk how much more of this Deron can take.. he wants to WIN now.. we need to make sure to get one win by this weekend.. 10game+ losing streak happens.. and bye bye Deron..

i know that man. Cuz really, what team gonna offer him a contract right now?

think about it…he’ll be looking for a multi-year deal, but at this point in the season, not too many “contenders” will want to move pieces around just to make an offer that Denver might match since restricted. But a team, like the Nets, can get him via Sign and Trade. His agent can say he’s going to denver but if Nets called Denver and offered a pick or two, y wouldn’t denver do it? They already have Gallo who they just paid big money to keep.

this is great.

Brook Lopez (foot) has been upgraded to questionable for Saturday’s game against the Bulls.
The questionable tag means that Lopez is officially 50-50 to play in the game. Lopez has missed the entire season recovering from foot surgery, but is chomping at the bit to get back out on the floor. It looks like that may happen on Saturday and the Nets can desperately use his career averages of 17.4 ppg and 7.6 rpg back in the lineup.

Brook needs to play now

If he gets hurt he gets hurt
Start with 10 minutes for the next 2
The last 2 minutes of every quarter and the last 4 of the 4thQ
Then 20 minsa for next 2 games
The last 4 minutes of each quarter and 8 in the 4th

um...how about no

not just because we’re nets fans but because we’re human beings. I don’t want brook back just to get hurt and ruin his career. I’d rather wait and I want him back BADLY for the Knicks game on Monday. If we already went this far, what’s another week or two?

We’ve pretty much already lost the playoffs run, we’d have to win 27 out of 35 games left. Or only lose 8 games for the rest of the season. that’ll put us right around .500.

and that still depends on how the other teams do.

no of course not i don’t think the nets would help anyone get Dwight

by avilanets85 on Feb 17, 2012 4:31 PM EST up reply actions

This is the Pau Gasol 3-way trade that will happen:

Lakers get Harris +pick from Utah, Scola + pick from Houston
Houston gets Gasol
Utah gets Kevin Martin

Works all around: Houston wants Gasol. Utah dumps Harris for a scoring wing they lack. LA gets a PG and replacement PF, and throw-in picks. Which could also mean the Lakers are out of the Dwightstakes as they’re just getting Kobe extra help.

As Much As Many

of us want a Dwight trade,

Dwill, Dwight and Lopez would be a great start.

Dwill leading them with.

Dwight would be the pick and roll ally ooop guy.
Lopez would be the pick and pop drop step pump fake lay up guy.

Then you add the scoring ability of Brooks.

You with this draft two young solid pieces to Jordan WIlliams.

Dwill, Brooks, Stevenson, Lopez, Dwight
PG, Morrow, Draft SF, Draft PF/C, Jordan Williams.

I think I would take the chance of Dwight coming FA.

However, like most little kids and many adults, I want my instant gratification. As a basketball fan and a sports fan I can’t go through every single day hearing these know-it-all fools say that the Nets will lose Deron to the Mavs and how the Utah trade was a mistake. Lopez should just stay healthy

The only reason I want Lopez back is to show the NBA that he is healthy so we could trade him. We will never win with him as a center. He is a defensive liability and at center that’s fatal. We were 4-8 with him and DWill last year and I don’t expect anything different now. We need D12 and a rookie DEFENSIVE big from the draft. Even with what we have now, just D12 and DWill, imo will be no better than Orl. was ever with D12. We need a front line that could defend. Not just D12 and Not D12 and Lopez. A center, PF and SF that could defend. It’s funny when I hear D12 wants to play with Ammo or LeBron wanted to play with Bosh. They both haven’t learned that when they are the only ones who could defend on the frontline, no matter how many scorers, stretch pfs or all NBA guards they play with they end up with no titles . It takes all three frontcourt players who can defend at the highest level and even a bench player who is a defensive force like Gortat off the bench for Orl. Remember perception is reality. Lets hope there’s a GM who thinks Lopez could be a major building block. Preferably one who could get us an asset that could lead to another good defensive big. Priorities!!!

Hm my response might be biased

because I’m a huge brook lopez fan but i don’t consider him a defensive liability. if anything i think he’s a better defensive presence than anyone we have playing right now. Secondly, we’re getting destroyed on the offensive boards, he should easily be able to help with that as long as he doesn’t hang above the free throw line and shoot 19 footers.

As for him playing a part of us not playing well I can understand that, we’re hoping his flaws will be less pronounced with a real PG. Remember that devin harris was a very skilfull player but he was asked to score more than dish and he was more a small 2 guard or combo guard than a PG. We see the same effect with Dwill as his passing has gone down even averaging 8 assists. A true PG should be able to help Lopez.

We haven’t seen enough of Lopez and Dwill to make that determination yet but here’s hoping we will.

he's doing well

he’s not putting up big stats but then again he comes off the bench in Phx. But his surgery or his foot is just fine. your concern is understandable though, most big men careers specifically centers have foot problems that plague them and eventually ends their career, including Shaq and Yao.

Rec'd

Before Lopez have these posters had no respect for him and called him soft. Then he went down. Hopefully now people can learn to watch and appreciate him. Im tired of these fake Nets fans who will just turn on a player after one bad game.

by i says on Feb 17, 2012 7:46 PM EST up reply actions

so true

i was the most critical of Brook Lopez and couldn’t stand when he takes those 19 footers and misses them. I’m not talking about when he’s wide open, those are good shots and he should continue taking those. i’m talking about the times when he spots up above the free throw line with defender in his face and shoots a jumper. this completely takes him out of rebounding position. at least if you get the ball down low and miss say off a high rebound you have the opportunity to get the offensive rebound or at least take pressure from the defense so another teammate, say humprhies, can grab the rebound or put back.

he is listed at 7’0 tall, and stat wise he does much better down in the post taking high percentage shots. i’m glad he bulked up too because he was too lean before, hopefully now he can bump and grind down in the post without flailing out.

Another point is that

by Roccor420 on Feb 17, 2012 8:12 PM EST up reply actions

honestly, i think we should hold him out till the knick game

no need to push him. we need him healthy most importantly. a back-to-back-to-back cannot be good for a guy returning from an injury.

sorry, but I’m at my College and my TV just stopped working. flat out died on me. I wan’t to watch the nets game tomorrow, especially since lopez could come back from his injury. I’ve been waiting for this all season. I try watch the nets every game and i really don’t want to miss this one.

Is there anyway I can stream the game on my laptop and watch it? I know that you guys can’t post links to the stream on this website, so could you guys send it my e-mail? I’d be much appreciated. If there’s no stream, is there any way I could listen to it? Even listening to the game would be worth it. and his TOs are a big weakness so far. N.O. looks like they decided…clog the lane and make him find the open man on the perimeter. If he finds that man, then take your chances and just hope the open man misses more often than not. Just don’t let Lin find the guy who’s finding other open lanes when he’s getting to the basket. He’s got 9 T.O.s tonight. But let’s see if he wears down the Hornets defense in the last few minutes of the game.

Look

Maybe the reason Knicks have been winning is not cuz a legit PG showed up, but rather, a guy who can consistently get to the basket opened up everything for the team. Lin scored a bunch tonight but was unable to consistently get everyone involved. Again, as he plays more game, teams will find his weaknesses. His TOs aren’t a new thing. If a former great PG(Mark Jackson) didn’t believe in him, I think there’s something to that. When MJax was asked on the Kay show why Lin never got time, he didn’t say cuz Ellis and Curry were in front of him, he said, “Cuz i didn’t want him”. That’s kinda cold. I’m beginning to believe this may be more of a flash in the pan and when Melo gets back and Lin starts to realize he needs to get the ball to Melo, everything gonna change. I’m willing to bet Baron Davis will be the starting PG for the Knicks at some point in the season.

by Versifiervt on Feb 17, 2012 10:49 PM EST up reply actions

Lin is a turnover machine

This game was no fluke with the 9 TOs. As a starter for 7 games, Lin is averaging 6.4 TOs a game, mostly picking up 6 or 8 TOs.

Lin is good and all, really, they’ve been winning, but at some point that’s going to catch up with him and the Knicks.

by stenpoint on Feb 17, 2012 10:44 PM EST reply actions

look up his stats in Harvard and in his time at the D-League

His TOs are part of his game and that’s bad. Maybe he can correct it but someone wrote an article about it. When he drives, 50% of the time you can tell he’s ‘hoping’ to find someone rather than how a real PG ‘knows’ he’s gonna find someone.

Knicks have been playing with fire throughout Linsanity

Went down big against Minny and Toronto but miraculously came back. Went down big again tonight but couldn’t come all the way back. They keep digging early holes for themselves. If they do that against the good teams starting next game, they will never come back. They’ve played one playoff team during Linsanity.

And Anthony Perez is right: Amar’e is smelling good right now because he’s washed up. Look at his hustle STATs. (pun intended). They are way down because he doesn’t have the athleticism anymore.

With Melo and JR and Amar’e getting big mins, I wonder how their defense will hold up.

Its the system along with his talent people don't want to recognize that and think its Magic or something

Duhon and Felton all upped there game in it.

by Atronic on Feb 17, 2012 10:49 PM EST up reply actions

I agree

He is partly a product of the system. Case in point: Raymond Felton. An average PG under Larry Brown, a revelation under D’Antoni, and now below average in Portland. All in a matter of 2 1/2 years. That’s clear evidence that D’Antoni’s system inflates PG numbers because it gives them huge usage rates.

also Nate Robinson was averaging like 17 and 8 in that system as well

Rose appears closer to returning, but it remains unclear if he’ll be back Saturday when the Bulls go for their fifth straight win over the woeful Nets at the United Center.
