Game 31 - Nets @ Pacers - Thursday, February 16, 7:00

The Nets thought they would have 11 healthy players vs. the Grizzlies on Wednesday but Jordan Farmar was a late scratch and so the Nets streak of games with 10 or fewer players extended to seven games, which is also the length of their streak of losing games.

If Farmar feels better, they are likely to have 11 tonight and if the basketball gods (who can be reached at 33rd and Seventh Avenue nowadays) answer the Nets prayers, they could get up to 12 before the break with Brook Lopez's return.

The Pacers are having trouble of their own. They have dropped five straight and are likely to be without Danny Granger, their leading scorer. While the Nets were losing to the Grizzlies, the Pacers were losing to the Cavaliers in Cleveland. "It’s not an excuse, but I think guys are worn down," coach Frank Vogel said. "It’s been a tough stretch of the schedule against a string of good teams and we’ve had a slew of injuries.

Ahhhh

Dahntay Jones would start on this team is a good player have always wanted the nets to trade for him when they had about 30 wings. He’s basically an athletic bogans who can handle and score when he needs to.

"We're not there yet, but we're going somewhere," Johnson said. "And we're going to Brooklyn. We're not going to contract. We're going to Brooklyn."

by Pure baller15 on Feb 16, 2012 11:27 AM EST via mobile up reply actions

I agree. I want Smith at SF anyway.

Think of the matchup problems we would give teams with Lopez and Howard in the front court. We have a pass first PG and all we would need is a lock down perimeter defender.

Defensive mistakes on rotations wouldn’t kill the team because you 2 big men back there, one being a multiple defensive player of the year.

His insane ability on the court never translated to the FO. He’s a lousy personnel decision maker who thought his reputation would turn Charlotte into a big NBA market. He should’ve known not to mess with Tobacco Road

So... Deron does not look happy

Deron does not look happy in yesterday’s post-game interview. Are we so sure he’s in on the plan? Something seems off for sure because if he’s ok with losing to ultimately get a good draft pick, get Howard, and win - then why the look on his face.

This about sums it up... I'm just sad now

Lin had already given the people what they paid for. One longtime Knicks season-ticket holder from New Jersey, Andy Leeds, said he had fielded more requests for his seat on this night than he had for any regular-season game in 20 years. “And I couldn’t give my tickets away for 10 of those years,” Leeds said

by anothernetsfan on Feb 16, 2012 8:36 AM EST up reply actions

I know it's hard...

…and I’m trying my best; but ignoring the Knicks success is the best route. If it ends up being that the Nets can’t succeed no matter what they do, or where they play, then you do what you gotta do.

by Versifiervt on Feb 16, 2012 8:38 AM EST up reply actions

its hard to ignore their success

when it is in our faces 24-7 while this team goes through the motions

The Nets are irrelevant and I’m not sure what the hell is going on in that locker room or in that front office. This is not acceptable, I don’t care who we are waiting for you don’t just stop competing.

Dwight Howard needs his head examined if he wants to come here. The Lakers, Bulls all have pride and are managed 1000x better.

by MrDollarBills on Feb 16, 2012 9:18 AM EST up reply actions

Understand you are upset, as am I, but...

The Nets competed last night. The problem was turnovers in last 3 minutes. That killed them. Secondly, do you realize how bad the Nets are? WHat exactly is the management going to do? They have dove everything to try to get Dwight, and until they don’t, they really can’t do anything else. Lakers and Bulls have pride because they have history, huge fan bases (Nets have neither), and they CURRENTLY have good teams.

Lets get something straight

we’re not losing on purpose. We’re just not good. This team was built around a pass PG, a very good offensive center and a buch of shooters – there was gonna be a lot of pick and roll/pick and pop.

That went to crap, as we all know, and now we have a passing PG that has to shoot more than he wants, streaky shooters at best that have noone to draw attention from them, no post presence and, oh yeah, all of the injuries which has guys playing out of position and more minutes than they should.

If I were Deron, plan or no plan, I’d be mad after losing a game regardless.

Just a bit more weird than Deron coming over from Utah to last year's Nets

ANGRY

I think in that scenario I’ll be ridiculously angry. They made people sign up for 3 yr commitments as season ticket holders in Brooklyn. If it is to put a crap product on the floor for 3 years, I’ll be really pissed. The only positive out of that scenario is you might get a great draft pick and rebuild like OKC and Clippers

Because in that scenario I’d feel totally betrayed, as if someone tried to rip me off. Look I don’t mind the team being bad at times, going through droughts, but you can’t make me sign a 3-yr commitment at a high price and then screw me on the back-end. You do that, and that’s betraying my trust.

That's the coach.

Lin allows the Knicks to play their coach’s offensive system. He’s not a good enough coach to adapt to the players, but his offensive system has made so many scrubs into starters and good players into superstars.

The Nets’ coach is the same. He has a defensive system that has worked in the past (even though it is excruciating to watch) and NONE of the personnel (most of which he requested) matches that system. And he definitely isn’t a good enough coach to find a way to win with what he actually has. The Nets need a coach that puts the most possible players in a position to succeed. There are no quick fixes like Lin coming through the door.

I don't think it changes Dwight coming over

Still looking forward to the trade deadline.

And if that doesn’t come, it leaves room for the dream scenario of Orlando keeping Dwight for one last run and him coming over in the offseason. We keep all our assets, including Lopez, and have a lotto pick too.

but the energy, effort, and enthusiasm that Lin brings to the Knicks DWARFS anything that Deron has done in a Nets uniform so far.

But Lin also played with a legitimate big man and in an offensive system. Deron plays in Avery Johnson’s joke of a system

Every other team executes better than we do.

Get your facts straight: Nets are 14th in league in offensive efficiency. That’s right, and we have the most new faces and injuries of any team in the league. The Nets can’t play defense because they have no wing or interior defenders. Johan Petro was also a big help with his size against Gasol last night, which accounts for his high +/-.

but it is a two way street

you can’t blame the players and not avery and you can’t blame avery and not the players.

we aren’t that blessed. in other teams yes you have players executing 100% exactly to what you need and the coaching sucks. And in other cases you have players who are horrible and terrible and will never be able to execute anything close to what the coach wants.

knicks are a great example. Dantoni is a offensive minded coach, with Melo and Amare, Shumpert and Douglas they loss 11 out of 14 games. Hell Dantoni’s job was on the line. Then comes Lin out of nowhere and they win 7 games straight, 6 of them without amare OR melo and only the second squad and a few starters.

Players vs Coaches.

by Roccor420 on Feb 16, 2012 4:28 PM EST up reply actions

but no one here

says that Petro is fine, you just need better players around him. We are all acutely aware of when a player blows a play. But when Avery blows a defensive scheme (e.g. 90% of the games so far), lots of people think just saying “D-Leaguers!” and “injuries” makes HIS incompetence OK. It is not OK.

I looked at a team like chicago and i understand that they have a superstar (rose) but that is not what makes them great.. what makes them great is that they defend…and its not like they have world class defenders…. A league source on Thursday confirmed a New York Daily News report that the NBA will make Lin part of the field for the Haier Shooting Stars competition during All-Star Saturday night. That would enable Lin to join Shumpert’s dunk routine as well. NBA commissioner David Stern told USA Today earlier this week that Lin will not be a special late addition to the annual Rising Stars game featuring rookies and second-year players at All-Star Weekend.

KIA's sales have skyrocketed since...
(SEOUL) June 22, 2011 — Kia Motors America (KMA) is experiencing unprecedented growth – year-to-date sales are up an industry best 44.8 percent – and the company’s diverse sports marketing properties have driven dramatic increases in consumer awareness, perception and consideration for the brand.

Today, KMA announced a groundbreaking partnership with one of the most recognizable young players in professional basketball, Blake Griffin, who will serve as an official spokesperson for the Kia Motors brand around the world. The multi-year deal builds upon the memorable connection forged between Griffin and Kia Motors after he leaped over a new 2011 Optima midsize sedan to win the 2011 Sprite Slam Dunk competition and footage of the dunk was featured in Kia’s advertising. Griffin is the only current professional basketball player with a global marketing relationship with an automaker.

The partnership with Griffin increases Kia’s presence in professional basketball following the brand’s extension and expansion of its relationship with the National Basketball Association (NBA) in 2010.

Dwight or Die!

uh….at least….it was….a close game last nite?

or something

seriously the last 4 minutes of the game was depressing and anger inducing, i was fairly happy with our effort (even tho our D is pathetic), but those last few minutes made my hair stand up…turnover after turnover after turnover – sigh

I agree Avery stinks, but you are NUTS if you want him fired now. You dont throw another variable into the equation right now. You fire him after Dwight gets here, and then D&D will pick the next coach haha

Whoever thinks or is hoping for Avery to hit the road is delusional.

Avery is here long term regardless of our record this year, even if we don’t win another game for the remainder of the season.

i want nothing more for Dwight to come here...

if we get Dwight with D-will and get some good supporting talent (especially defenders) we’ll be taking down the Knicks.

I dont care how good Jeremy Lin looks right now. He’s playing in D’Antoni’s system next to players who THRIVE next to a good point guard.

No doubt that Tyson Chandler and Amare are gonna play good next to him. I also believe Melo will too.

Put D-Will next to Dwight and he’s gonna kill it too. He’s killin it next to the crap we have on the floor. Imagine what he’d do with Dwight.

2. Along with Deron Williams telling the Nets he wants to go to the Magic to play with Dwight..put together a package consisting of some combination of Jameer, JJ, J. Rich, Q. Rich and Rhino (hate to see Rhino go but its hard to see the Nets okaying a trade for D. Will not with him included). The trade probably would have to be Jameer, JJ and Rhino and maybe a pick for D. In The Myth of Sisyphus, Camus introduces his "philosophy of the absurd." The "absurdity" is Nets fans futile search for meaning in an unintelligible world devoid of God, eternal truths, values and wins. Does the realization of the utter absurdity and futility of Nets life mean we might as well just kill ourselves? "No!" Camus heroically answers. What is required of us is constant revolt against the absurdity of being a Nets fan.

On Avery

Fortunately for him and Unfortunately for us,

Avery will not get FIRED this year. I too wonder how loyal is BKing to Avery. I would be really impressed if BKing would pull a Game of Thrones Moment and CUT off one of the characters you think is UNTOUCHABLE when you least expected it.

One thing is for sure there are a couple of games regardless of OUR ROSTER we should have won. Yesterday was clearly one of them.

1) Why did he sit Brooks so long? Yeah he made some mistakes but they werent his fault. With limited Practice, run the plays the work. He is clearly more comfortable getting the ball on the right side of the KEY. Give the ball to him there FOR CHRIST SAKES.

2) Where was Jordan Williams? Clearly HUMP and PETRO on Speights wasnt working. Why not put JWill in as a change of scenery. SMH!!! There is no reason to use your WHOLE BENCH. We have BACK to BACKs play everyone.

3) I still dont know what Gaines does for this lineup. With Morrow, Brooks, Stevenson, and this new kid, who did IMO a good job for his first game with the team, there is no reason to play Gaines and Dwill together. You want Dwill to come off the ball run plays were the SGs pass the ball. And Farmar was out. SMFH!!!

Anyway I can waste my time with the FIRE AVERY RANTS.

I think I will

Don't matter if we get Dwight or not..

….we’ll be looking up at the Knicks…fully re-loaded and likely the team to beat for the next 2 or 3 years. If we did get Dwight, Tyson likely does enough of a job on him while we’ll have nobody to check Melo or Stat, and we already know what Lin can do against DWill.

by avilanets85 on Feb 16, 2012 1:34 PM EST up reply actions

we all understood what the team was doing between 2007 and 2010

breaking the team down, trying to get capspace, and preparing for brooklyn. So the losing we had to deal with those years was excusable.

In 2010/11 season, we failed in landing any of the big fish; Thorn left us with a few questionable acquisitions; but Proky and mgmt. preached there’ d be players to go after this past off season and we’d be in the playoffs THIS season.

But now the injuries….we’re not the only team suffering from injuries. But I get it…hard to get good when there’s no consistent starting lineup.

The toughest thing to swallow is that until we actually have a winning season; this organization will have as many excuses as they have lottery balls.

Moiso the knicks..Now we get to see how good lin/dantoni really is as a distributor. Melo, stat, smith, lin all need the ball.

J.r smith shouldve gone to chi or clippers. dumb move by him. Knicks are looking like the nuggets of old minus better coaching + bench. They wont do much not worried about them.

Im glad we’re going for dwight and not settling for mediocrity to win some season games make the playoffs then possibly get swept. thats what we’d be looking at now if we signed people this season. Plus no dwight sweepstakes. Come on he still wants to be here and dwill is still here and doesnt want to leave. Future guys lets look towards it. Its not like we’re being dumb to the plan .WE ALL KNOW THE PLAN!

OH...something I thought about regarding D12

The more the Knicks add players and if things mesh on that team, and they do become a top 3 team in the East…I’m pretty sure this would have some little affect on both DWill and D12. What kind of legacy would it be in Brooklyn if they’re looking up at the Knicks? Don’t just knock this down like it can’t happen. MSG has been electric as of light cuz of a streak from a once unknown player. There’s a lot on the line for D12 when it comes to choosing this next team if not Orlando. I’m telling you guys, the better the Knicks do, the more it hurts our chances of landing D12 and keeping DWill. You may think it’s not so, but just remember what other players have said in the past — when considering the NY area as a future destination, most players think Knicks and not Nets. And though Brooklyn could change that, if Knicks make a deep run in the playoffs, I’m almost certain D12 thinks twice.

by Versifiervt on Feb 16, 2012 1:44 PM EST reply actions

think twice and go where though?

Where else can he get what he wants..which is a running mate top flight pg and a big market?

by 1stnamelastname on Feb 16, 2012 1:46 PM EST up reply actions

I don't think you can rule out what versifiervt is saying...

If the Knicks keep this hot streak going, everything meshes together. Brooklyn is going to be the Clippers of the past 10 yrs - you think Dwight wants to be the sad stepchild? I don’t think so

by anothernetsfan on Feb 16, 2012 1:50 PM EST up reply actions

oh no i completely understand what hes saying

However if hes cowardice to not want to take a challenge like that on with dwill then i dont want him here. Me personally though id want to take them down to BE the talk of the town.

by 1stnamelastname on Feb 16, 2012 1:51 PM EST up reply actions

D12 is not waiting for the playoffs to see where he's landing. He is out of ORL by Mar 15.

As much as we would like him to come via FA, that is not happening.

Orl Owner is a business man, and he did not make his donuts by being stupid.

He is trading his behind before deadline, that is 100%.

by d2d on Feb 16, 2012 2:20 PM EST up reply actions

we continue to use "where else can they go if not Brooklyn to get that big market exposure.."

But the risk of being 2nd fiddle I think is bigger than the ‘big market’ mentality. And if those D12 had to choose between possibly being 2nd fiddle vs. just staying in Orlando(where you’re comfortable and just request the coach get fired); while DWill can just walk to Dallas to play with Dirk while Cuban finds ways to upgrade the team before Dirk gets old, then yeah, both players have options.

by Versifiervt on Feb 16, 2012 1:51 PM EST up reply actions

that’s why we can’t let dwight hit free agency. dallas looks tempting

we need him now

there’s no question. u can not ride into brooklyn with this garbage. it’s over. They just emailed me and said seats opened up because people RE-NEGED on their 3 yr commitment… I am NOT making this stuff

by anothernetsfan on Feb 16, 2012 1:58 PM EST up reply actions

hahah

yeah but let other folks tell it, Dwight is coming here no matter what

Net Income let that warning be heard and people choose to ignore it. Anything can happen. The Knicks are looking like they are set to dominate this market…Dwight and Deron may feel it would be better to take their brand to Dallas. Big Texas market, no massive competition in the conference whereas in the East you have NY, CHI, MIA to get past to make the Finals. The West is looking like it will be wide open

by MrDollarBills on Feb 16, 2012 2:33 PM EST up reply actions

Dallas

I can see them contemplating what it will take to get to Dallas. They’d have a far easier time in the West than they would in the east playing 2nd class citizens to the Knicks

by MrDollarBills on Feb 16, 2012 2:19 PM EST up reply actions

Thank God D12 and Dwill

aren’t scared lil pansies like some Net fans seem to be. Yeah so the Knicks might be good,
just like we expected after getting Chandler. So what? The truth is the BK is still a huge
Market with a clean slate. I highly doubt this makes any difference to Howard and Dwill.
Money and Market and options are more important to whatever is going on in MSG.
With Knicks locking up a team and having no room for anyone else, BK looks just fine
to future free agents.
Thnak god no one really knows what’s going to happen besides Dwill and Howard.

If I can just hide, the sinner inside, and keep him denied.
How sweet life would be, if I could be free, from the sinner in me.

Just a random thought

Nets and Cavs both were trying to get Bron. Both failed. Cavs went the route of re building through draft and hired a good coach and now they are better and more atheletic.

Nets on the other hand got a super star and hired a mediocre coach and are worst than ever.

by NetsYankee on Feb 16, 2012 1:46 PM EST reply actions

yeah but injuries played a part too. you can’t expect King to be a miracle worker. he’s doing the best that he can

remember they also got incredibly lucky with the ping-pong balls though

so lucky made everyone scream conspiracy. CLE only has 3 wins better than us with most players healthy. Situation is bad but don’t make it sound worse than it is.

And if Brook doesn't get hurt we are a respectable team

And we don’t get Okur and use that money on a SF. We got dealt a bad hand. The team is doing the right thing. Dwight Howard wants to play for your team. You have to stay the course.

by avilanets85 on Feb 16, 2012 1:50 PM EST up reply actions

Nets are taking the better approach

Cavs also got the #1 pick and they may be getting more “competitive” but they are no closer to winning a title than we are.

Nets have been cost cutting and clearing space to make a run at DH which is the right thing to do. Nene/Chandler would’ve helped us like the Cavs to become more competitive but they wouldnt bring a championship.

Stay the course, Nets/..

by acg5001 on Feb 16, 2012 1:49 PM EST up reply actions

You're right

“Dwight and D-Will” or not, I’d say Nets would be a better team than Cavs no matter what 2 years down the road.

Nets got a star...

…and decided to hold out for another star instead of building around the star they already have.

by Versifiervt on Feb 16, 2012 1:53 PM EST up reply actions

you have to understand that’s the model now get two or more superstars on you’re team like miami, the clips etc. if we don’t get dwight then dallas would be looking to do the same thing

by avilanets85 on Feb 16, 2012 1:54 PM EST up reply actions

Yes...that's true

but you also have to remember that the Knicks started to get a winning mentality with just having Stat on their team and before Melo.

HOw many think that Melo still wants knicks if NY was bad as ever with Stat and the team looked dysfunctional? Most will likely jump the gun and say Melo would’ve still wanted NY. I’m not so sure about that.

Players want to see that they’re going into a good situation. D12 looking at Nets and despite the injuries, he’s wondering, “what exactly do they have if they weren’t injured? Last i checked Nets have been bad for years!”

by Versifiervt on Feb 16, 2012 1:59 PM EST up reply actions

yeah but he would also know that D-will is there and it def won’t be the same team heading into Brooklyn i put the farm on that

by avilanets85 on Feb 16, 2012 2:01 PM EST up reply actions

again...D12 will be giving up a lot for the 'unknown'

even with DWill…there’s a major unknown factor on this team. Both these guys play the sport. They both know what it takes to win. It’s not as easy as D12 being traded here and off we go. Both guys have to be wondering what the real future of this team can be and is it worth it for them to commit. this brings me back to the Knicks situation hurting the Nets….the more the Knicks win, the more cloudy that Brooklyn future looks. shouldn’t be related to each other but in a big way, because of the current perception of both teams, the KNicks play a factor in who we get going forward…they always have and always will. And I hate that fact.

by Versifiervt on Feb 16, 2012 2:08 PM EST up reply actions

you can say that with any team Dwight gets traded to that it’s an unknown. take the Lakers for example. if he gets traded there who’s to know that he won’t get the ball over there or how many elite years does kobe have left. he won’t really be losing out on much because it’s not like the team he’s on now is a championship level team because if it was he wouldn’t be asking for a trade

by avilanets85 on Feb 16, 2012 2:13 PM EST up reply actions

whoa...we're comparing the Lakers situation to the Nets?

Nets are a bigger unknown period. But if you wanna compare the Lakers…everyone knows what they are. There’s a bunch of championship banners hanging at Staples in case anyone forgets. Lakers are known for building championship teams.

A better argument for you prolly would’ve been Dallas just cuz Dirk is old and they’ll be in the same position as Nets this offseason…bunch of expiring contracts and not knowing who’ll be on the team next season. But even with Dallas, there’s a ‘known’ factor with them…Cuban has always put a winning team on the floor.

by Versifiervt on Feb 16, 2012 2:18 PM EST up reply actions

it was just an example. plus would you still feel that way if Dwight came here. remember we’re still his top choice and we haven’t won anything so i don’t think the fact that the Lakers have won championships factor into anything

by avilanets85 on Feb 16, 2012 2:21 PM EST up reply actions

cause another star wants to come here

not just a regular star a SUPERSTAR..im with billy on this..gotta take that gamble..

by 1stnamelastname on Feb 16, 2012 1:58 PM EST up reply actions

exactly we’re trying to win championships just sit and wait for things to develop. it’s too risky

by avilanets85 on Feb 16, 2012 1:59 PM EST up reply actions

I wouldn't even call this a gamble

this even seems safer than investing in a stock market nowadays.

by mvmt84 on Feb 16, 2012 2:01 PM EST up reply actions

Reminder: Brook Lopez is out currently and we have no bench help

since no decent player wanted to come here amid Dwightmare(i.e. “Would I finish this season in NJ or ORL?”)

by mvmt84 on Feb 16, 2012 1:53 PM EST reply actions

And for all the "Knicks will own the city" talk.

I could not care less.
As long as we get Dwight and Deron locked up for the next 5 years, we are good.
Winning is all that matters. And we will have 5 years to build around them and win a trophy.
I don’t care if nobody cares. Winning is what creates a fan base. And it will take time.
I’m not worried about the Knicks winning a chip in the next 3 years.
If we get Dwight and Deron locked up, I’m only worried about Chicago and Miami.
It will always be a Knicks city, they have been around longer. It’s nothing new to Nets fans.
But we can still win a title regardless. Dwight or Bust.

With a healthy team? Or would you rather not be in the Dwight discussion still playing in Newark possibly being contracted in the next few years? We are lucky to be getting a brand new arena and have a billionaire owner and in the position that we are in to acquire Dwight not sure how you can say where unlucky considering our history. If I was Dwight I would probably go somewhere else as would most of you.

But if we were truly unlucky D-will would have already demanded a trade and the arena would have stopped being built or some crazy scenario like that. I will wait and see how the Dwight scenario plays out before I go into the we have bad luck cursed talk.

Everyone is too caught up in the moment

Do what I do: talk to all my friends that are Yankees and Knicks fans about the Giants. We suck and the Knicks are hot but it won’t always be that way. Nets have gained tremendous traction as a franchise by working hard to build excitement for the Brooklyn move – that shouldn’t be overlooked. There is GENUINE interest in this organization for the first time ever. So what if the product sucks now? It’s been about 2012 for two years now and the payday is getting nearer.

Mets are out of money because of their incompetent ownership

and the Jets are a laughingstock because their coach is a loudmouth. People seem to be jumping ship around here as if this managerial regime was ruining our future. Of all the moves that Billy King has made, the only one I can really question was the Courtney Lee for Troy Murphy deal (and that was admittedly a trade that was made out of necessity more than anything else).

Yes this team is terrible but because of injuries and not overpaying for B list talent. Deron Williams and Marshon Brooks have been brought on board and most importantly there are no longer any Travis Outlaw’s, Bobby Simmons’, Yi Jianlian’s. If fans are fed up with losing the alternative was years of rebuilding. This is a shortcut and it looks painful but until it fails you HAVE to just let it play out.

Can some of us chill for a change !!!

gremLIN is not changing everything. Like some mentioned, this is like Nets had that 14 game winning streak.

D12 + D-Will + whoever >>>>> gremLIN + Melo +Chndler +Stat etc.

This is not even a debate.

You will have plenty of players who would love to play with D-Will and D12 if that combo ever materializes.

All this gremLIN hype is aided by winning, and once they start losing it will flatten down.

It’s a hype; that’s all it is. D12 is a legitimate SUPERSTAR.

Freaking Yormarket will do wonders with D12…..take a back seat and enjoy. We are done for this year regardless.

As a Net fan I was enjoying an almost-win last night. We will have some good ball games with Brook back, and we will certainly enjoy the rest of the season if D12 is here (even though we’re not in the playoff run, the hype towards brooklyn will start).

I agree with this wholeheartedly. They played a great game despite being undersized and outmatched athletically. They don’t have great crunch time execution but what do you expect from a team that is still learning how to play with one another and hasn’t had a training camp?

In the end the loss sucked but it shows Deron this team can be competitive when healthy and we are one loss closer to a lottery pick to add to the equation.

You can't argue with A'mare

Chandler is playing the best basketball of his life and good for him, I’ve always liked his style of play. However, I’m not sure he can keep it up. If Melo gets a better coach he always has the potential to be transformed into an unstoppable monster but D’Antoni is not the man for the job.

Knicks are going to play a lot better and they have a semi-likable team but I don’t think they will ever be a truly elite team with this group.

seriously

Look…the truth are in the #s. It’s as easy as that. Stock brokers make calculated risks based on their knowledge of any given number of companies. And they live off of being right.

Same can apply to any other part of life.

Same can be applied to sports.
- Knicks and Nets have never been great teams at the same time

- Nets have been a losing team for so much of their history

- Will it surprise anyone if CP3 or Griffin suffers and season ending injury and the clippers go south again?

- The Knicks success shouldn’t be a surprise cuz as recent as the 90s they had it goin. The Nets had it goin in the first decade of the new century…so then it’s the Knicks turn again.

So if I were a betting man, I’d say the nets are in trouble.

by Versifiervt on Feb 16, 2012 3:01 PM EST up reply actions

In this world

people forget or choose to forget things to easily

I will not forget the we were in the Finals 10 years ago. I will not forget that we had a 12 win season. I will also not forget that regardless of all the hype Knicks havent one a playoff game in past 10 years.

So all this Knicks are better then the Nets is all comedy to me. Even the comments on these boards make me laugh. Melo and Amare alone should have won at least ONE playoff game.

The difference between Knicks and Nets even though they are BOTH businesses THE KNICKS ARE WANT TO MAKE MONEY where the NETS IMO are trying hard to WIN A CHAMPIONSHIP and MAKE MONEY.

Yeah it might be out there but I heard they just raised the ticket prices recently for Lin.

The same team that traded Ewing for Glen Rice.

The Knicks dont do things for the apparent reasons.

You need a PG and the top one has already said he wants to be a Knick. So you go out and get a Player that needs a PG to be successful blowing the money you could have used to get that PG. All CP3 had to do was say it was Knicks or Bust. Once they got chandler they lost that position. What happens then? Knicks are in a downward spiral. Then D’Antoni gets lucky and rolls the dice. Go out there Lin.

No one expected Lopez to get hurt. No one expected DJames to get hurt. No one expected Marshon to get hurt. No one expected Brook’s replacement to get hurt. No one expected Shawne to be hurt.

Billy didn’t sign Petro, the most hated Net.

We would not be in this scenario or feeling this way if the best center and only small forward on our roster were actually playing. To think that DWill or anyone thinks that this situation is hopeless because of some injuries or because of what some upstart player on a rival team is doing is nuts. DWill doesn’t give a moiso about the Knicks and nor should we. Fine they signed JR, good luck. Maybe they’ll make the second round now instead of getting bumped in the first. That’s their season not ours. I could care less about the Knicks, yelling at BK about the Knicks, or complaining about DWill’s postgame face after a hard loss.

If you can’t get the Knicks out of your mouth then go be a fan of theirs, and if you can’t find any positives then go take a shower.

it's not even about that specifically

i love how people assume the Nets are “betraying the franchise” and disrespecting the fans. Obviously it’s hard to watch now, but it’s all apart of the plan. The team is garbage outside of maybe four guys, I can’t understand how people get riled up when they lose. The Nets know what they have to do, they aren’t twiddling their thumbs watching Jeremy Lin. Things will work out, people just have to relax a little bit, geez.

We'll Be Fine.

I'm going to guess you disagree...

Look I get flexibility, I get all the pluses and minuses, I’m all on board for Dwight. But you can’t tlel me to sign a 3 yr contract and then play the flexibility game for 3 yrs. I’m paying for tickets with money I earned by sweating it out. It’s unfair to put out a totally ridiculous product year in and year out and go for the gamble. Are they going to give me a free year in year 4 if things go well? I don’t think so… so it’s ridiculous for them to put out a 20% winning team for 3 years

I've stuck with the Mets through the last few years so I'm sure I will continue to support the team

But it’s hard to imagine how I would react to the crushing blow of losing Deron and missing out on Dwight. I’ve built this move to Brooklyn as the turning point in this franchise’s history and bit my tongue the last few years knowing there is a bigger picture. if it flops it will be very hard to go back to rooting for the team as we go back to square 1.

i’m just gonna shut my mouth and stop giving the nets money. they deserve to have their arena taken over by fans of every visiting team. the team has been an embarrassment for the past 5 years and they never show signs of getting better. who i really feel for are the people who got suckered into buying season tickets at face value, they’re surrounded by people who bought their tix off stubhub for like 80% off face value or simply got them for free.

Hello Fellow Nets Fans
There’s a lot of angst and anger, frustration and disappointment, disgust and just down right rage at how the nets are performing both from a basketball fan of the game and as a fan supporting the NJ Nets with hard earned money in a semi-recessive economy. I myself was honestly depressed a few weeks ago when the Nets lost to the timber wolves and then again to the Knicks with Lin’s career starting win. Since then we’ve lost another 5 straight, some to teams we shouldn’t have (Pistons) others to teams we knew we were going to lose (Bulls, Spurs, Grizzlies). With Linsanity everywhere you look in the tri-state area it’s hard not to feel jaded or forgotten by the Nets FO because of how the team is performing and how others are viewing the Nets. The game against OKC was honestly dis-heartening especially the way they were disrespecting us with alley-oop dunks, off the backboard fast break dunks and delay of game dunks after the ball was scored.

If you’re fans like me, for the most part however well the nets do, is however well my mood or well-being is. We’re sick of losing and I agree with that, but the positives from last game is simply we actually looked like an NBA team. Don’t get me wrong, we lost the game for ourselves. Grizzlies didn’t even want the win that badly, we just kept turning the ball over and lost the game. I don’t mind losing (it’s a hard statement) but I don’t, not as a Nets fan of the 12-70 season and 24-58 season. You can’t be a nets fan and mind losing, what I can’t STAND is losing by 20 and playing basketball you would normally see at a LA Fitness Gym. I don’t spend my time and patience, love and fandom for games at LA Fitness.

With that being said, I hope for those of you that have given up, I implore you to take a break for a few weeks. And when you come back, cheer as best as you can for a team that you know you love and support.

For those of you that are on the rocky road to giving up, I ask you to be patient yet again, Not because I’m the Nets FO asking you to, or Avery johnson asking you to give our “Battling” guys another chance, but as a fellow brethren, a fellow nets fan.

In a few short weeks to maybe another Month, we will know exactly where we stand in the future. Whether we get Dwight in a trade, whether Dwight goes to another team in a trade, Whether Deron Williams stays with the Nets, whether Brook Lopez comes back and shows us why we missed him this entire season so far, whether Dwight will stay with Orlando for the rest of the season and come in FA, whether DWight and Deron will most likely walk in FA. Whether Deron Williams requests a trade.

You’ve waited this long, let’s wait together for just a little while longer. Let’s see this to either our horrible end in oblivion, or our grand entrance into a championship franchise for years to come.

LETS GO NETS!!!

Anyone else find it weird that most of these

Injuries are happening outside of the actual games? The Lopez injury especially interests me. Most people can feel the pain of a broken bone. When I broke my finger playing sports I definitely showed signs of pain. I played through it but you could see it bothered me. A broken bone in the foot of a 7 ft 265 lb center should at least warrant some sins of discomfort. I saw none during that Knicks game. I understand Lopez is a professional athlete with the best health and nutrition drs in the world but a broken bone is a broken bone. I don’t think he has super human adrenaline.

John Hollinger new article: BAD rating (terrible production from one position)

Guess what? Worst in the league…NJ Nets at SF!

Here’s what “BAD” is: He started with every player with a PER below 12, subtracted that player’s PER from 12, and multiplied by that player’s minutes played. For example, a player with a PER of 10 and 200 minutes played would add 400 BAD points for his team

Anyway, the Nets’ SF “BAD” rating was higher (worse) than that of 18 other TEAMS!

This actually means that with a decent (no, not amazing, not ever good, just decent) SF this Nets team would be WAY better. Just thought that was interesting.

by SadNetsFan on Feb 16, 2012 6:09 PM EST reply actions

Right. It’s too bad we have to waste this entire season waiting for Dwight Howard. We actually have/had the assets to get a SF…I guess it’s the same as always, next year.

OT - Which Knicks scrap will be the next New Jersey Net?
Toney Douglas, Mike Bibby and Renaldo Balkman are candidates to be released to make room for J.R. Smith.
The New York Daily News is reporting that Smith’s to the Knicks is essentially a done deal. Douglas opened the year as the starting point guard and fantasy sleeper, but flopped miserably. He’s been a DNP-CD in four of the last five games as Linsanity has taken hold.

I’m so sick of this moiso…….I give you guys credit for having such a high tolerance here in Fantasy Land………The nets want a player…..They tell us fans that they are interested , the fans get excited and then it never happens but they pick up a scrub to patronize us fans……The Knicks are getting better all the time and now they have a young star out of nowhere and then out of the blue they grab JR Smith on their way to the playoffs……..A player that most of us wanted to play here……..This Franchise SUCKS……….

Holy Moiso...enough about the Knicks

2 weeks ago they were a mess, and they haven’t won a playoff game in a decade. Now all of a sudden they fans are acting like they are run like the Yankee or Patriots. You’re complaining that we are taking the same approach you are applauding the Knicks for. They got their star player (Amare) that other players want to play for like we did (Deron) and they maintained cap room for a second star. The only difference is they already have the NY market appeal. Lin turning out to be a star could the luckiest moment in NBA history…but we complain when we fill in roster spots with D-League guys. If the plan works out and we get Dwight, you don’t think the JR Smiths of the world will want to join up?
