Nets Sign Emmett to 10-Day Contract, Waive Bogans

The Nets announced Tuesday morning that they have waived Keith Bogans and signed Andre Emmett to a 10-day contract. Emmett was the second-leading scorer in the D-League, averaging 23.7 points on 53 percent shooting for the Reno Bighorns. He will give the Nets 11 healthy bodies when they host the Grizzlies on Wednesday.

Andre Emmett goes from playing 1on1 in Alcatraz last year to 10-day contract with Nets. Last played in NBA ‘04-’05 season. Keith Bogans cut.

I believe this is the first time the Nets have had more than 10 players

since January 23, when the played the Bulls.

That's too bad...

I thought that Bogans was a great addition to this team….I was wondering if we could get him back next season….???

Young guys are too much work...

Why waste time teaching a young player who does not know how to play… when you can get an old guy who already knows how not to play…

plus we are not keeping and nurturing anyone

we are just trying to put something out there that doesn’t mess up as much

What's the deal with Owens?!

Was he not good enough? The only problem I seen with the guy , was a lack of confidence from his coach. Dude helped us win games with good D and was not affraid to take the open shot. Was it because he talked to Deron like they are equals? Can’t upset your star I guess.

Are you close to 30 and have limited skills ?

If so you should be getting a call from the Nets any day now…

I turn 30 on February 22nd!

My skills are somewhere between limited and non existant. Needless to say I keep my phone next to me when I sleep just in case.

?
Andre Emmett, 29, Reno Bighorns

Season Summary: There’s a random breakout performance each season in the D-League from someone that didn’t initially seem to be considered an NBA candidate and, a bit surprisingly, this former second round pick of the Seattle SuperSonics earned that distinction this season. The 6-foot-5 wing is averaging 23.4 points and 5.8 rebounds while averaging nearly two steals per game.

Scout’s Take: “There’s no doubt that Emmett is too talented on the offensive end to continue playing in the D-League, but his skillset and size make it difficult to see his game transferring smoothly. He has a good motor and is always aggressive on the offensive end, but doesn’t get after it as hard on defnese and sometimes struggles with selfishness.

Yeah! Another Non-Defender!

Good move Billy! If you had brought in a good defender, this team might find it hard to be the worst defensive team in the league.

do the Lakers own Gerald Green's rights?

Is that why we haven’t called him up?

would have been nice to give Green a shot

We could use some size at SF – we keep signing 6’5" guys.

Question

In the event that Dwight were to hit FA.. how would the Lopez thing go?

Can we go over the cap to sign him or is that a myth thrown around by Nets fans? Also can we go over the cap to sign our rookies? Cuz assuming we get the HOU pick, we dont have the CAP to sign Dwight AND Deron AND our rookie picks unless im missing something here.

Someone please fill me in

Lopez is a RFA.

We can sign him over the cap and of course our rookies.

Problem is somebody making an offer-sheet (given that Lopez signs it) and we will have only three days to match. Then our cap will be reduced. Of course BK can work with Lopez’s agent and delay his signing and ask Lopez not to sign any offer sheets.

by NDTony on Feb 14, 2012 12:43 PM EST up reply actions

problem is Lopez RFA cap hold will be 9 million

if he is not signed to an offer sheet

so essentially if Deron opts out then the nets will have to basically gut the roster and wipe out as many cap holds as possible(Hump, Okur, Farmar, Deshawn, James, Shawne, Shelden, Jordan, Gaines) to make sure they can sign Dwight first(UFA with no bird rights), then Deron(UFA with bird rights), then Lopez(RFA)

so I will strictly estimate that Deron and Dwight will have a first year salary between 15-19 million(hey lebron, wade, and bosh took paycuts) so they will eat up about 36 million in cap then Lopez will get Joakim Noah/Rudy Gay money so his first year hit may be about 12-15 million pending if the nets have to frontload to keep him.

so that would leave the nets at about 6 million under the cap with Lopez, Dwight, Morrow, Marshon, rookie(s). Plus the MLE and LLE but if another team(like Orlando, Golden State, Toronto, Portland, etc) decides to toss out a bloated offer sheet before Dwight signs then the nets would be forced to sign Lopez first because his cap hold becomes increasingly larger and then the capologists and agents have to go to work to see if Dwight/Deron will take paycuts or do they just have to S&T Lopez away
