Schroeder: Nets to Sign D-League Wing Andre Emmett

Ridiculous Upside's Scott Schroeder reports Monday night that the Nets will sign D-League wing Andre Emmett this week. Emmett is 6-5 and 29 years old. He was drafted in the second round out of Texas Tech by the Sonics in 2004 and has eight games of NBA experience, in early 2005 with the Grizzlies.

This season, Emmett has averaged 23.7 points, 6.0 rebounds, 3.4 assists and 1.8 steals in 24 games with the Reno Bighorns, shooting 53 percent from the field and 34-for-74 (46 percent) from 3-point range. Over the years, he's also played for two other D-League teams as well as for clubs in Lithuania, Belgium, France, Venezuela, China (twice) and Puerto Rico.

To sign Emmett, the Nets would need to waive either Keith Bogans or Damion James, who are both out for the season. Bogans is the more likely candidate.

Time for #Emmet-sanity!

In all seriousness, I have confidence in BK’s scouting, so I’m looking forward to it. Welcome aboard!

this

frankly anyone who has shown any hint of offense in the past should get a shot on this team.

plus he has the potential to be a solid defender, long arms and athletic. Could play some minutes at the 3 too.

We'll Be Fine.

why the hell not

let’s see if he can shoot the 3 and defend some…

any idea (@net income?) on most likely move we r making to facilitate this

i know the article says bogans or james, but are there any “irons in the fire” you’ve heard of?

by jsalkin1 on Feb 13, 2012 11:19 PM EST reply actions

In all seriousness, this is what I was hoping for

We might as well give a kid who is lighting up the D League a chance. Who knows, he might become the next Jeremy Lin or Anthony Morrow. I think this is a solid move.

and like they said any decent SF at this point in the season is already gone. Might as well take a shot.

I'm sure DWill is on board

At this point, they are just counting down to Dwight like the rest of us. Games don’t really have any significance.

I don't think it would work

Most folks, including many Asian Americans the Nets would be trying to bring in with that hypothetical move, see players like Yi as meandering, unrelatable, foreign supergiants.

Yi is living his dream as back up to Dirk.

And guarding the gatoraid. He is actually doing ok as role player.

The Nets are the territory for D Leaguers, you get called up most likely you will get a deal with the Nets.

With all the d league guys we bring up to the d league caliber guys on our team I think we should just move to the d league. Atleast we will get to see our team win games.

OT: but i was EPSN.com and tom penn was up saying that dwight’s best option is to go to Golden State. he says it’s a great city but check out the trade proposal

Orl gets ellis, david lee and udoh
gs gets dwight and glen davis

but then penn says maybe Golden state throws curry in that trade also. so if all of the talent in Golden state goes to Orlando then who is dwight playing with in GS? Stupid right?

by avilanets85 on Feb 13, 2012 11:47 PM EST reply actions

exactly the guy sounded like he was getting paid under the table by GS to say all these things

I’m not surprised that Gilbert Arenas looked good in his workout with the Lakers. He worked hard over the summer and dropped roughly 20 lbs.

He's a 29 year old D-Leaguer

He hasn’t made it in the NBA up to this point so don’t count on him suddenly becoming the next Jeremy Lin.

NJ Nets making D-league dreams come true

of once again or the very first time playing in the NBA.

I hope you stay healthy, from the bottom of my heart. I’ve had enough of injuries, both on this team specifically and in the league.

We’re actually the #1 team in the NBA with the most injuries. Most missed games due to injury.

For what it is I like it

He has been pretty successful ever where but the NBA so far. Texas tech all time leading scorer under Bobby Knight, lead the Belguim league in scoring, set the record in the CBA with 71 points in a game, and now apparently doing very well in the D league. No expectations, low risk, good upside. Can’t be mad about that

by SovietBrooklyn on Feb 14, 2012 1:46 AM EST via mobile reply actions

Knicks picked up D-Leaguer Steve Novak (and his threes won their last game)

Steve Novak and Jeremy Lin. Shaking my head.

Nevertheless, there’s a certain happiness in finding a role player on the cheap who can come in and help the team.

I’ve lobbied here to bring over Josh Boone and Marcus Williams from China (both at vet minimum), as many of you know.

Novak isn't exactly a d-leaguer

He was with the Spurs for a long time last season and played very well. He’s a great three point shooter and if you put him in a system that has him shoot threes, he’ll do well. Problem with the Nets is, there is no system
