trade for dwight ASAP...don't wait for july (and hopefully @elonepb is right!)

I see the urge to say "wait till July." you get to sign him and lose nothing, and look how knicks mortgaged a ton. however, i think we cannot wait for a couple reasons:

1: we're not last year's knicks. they HAD a good thing going with a +.500 record. there's nothing here.

2: we're more desperate than the knicks, because they had amare locked into a deal, whereas deron is a free agent in 4.5 months.

3: if we fail, we lose everything and become a team building from the ground again.

4: the precedent changed with the cp3 deal. it used to be that guys demand the locale, and get it. lebron, bosh, amare, melo all went exactly where they wanted to go. However, cp3 wanted the knicks, but despite that, the hornets said "let's not just send him exactly where he wants, let's wait it out, develop a larger group of teams that have assets to get him that paul would sign with, and pick from paul's options PLURAL. so, even if dwight wants brooklyn, we cannot allow that to happen.

5: even if we deal pieces for him, we'll have cap flexibility to round out the roster around our 2 studs, and can start replacing them. it's not like ny where they can't reacquire what they sold off.***it's more like LAC: they gave "a lot up," but are still awesome...because there was nothing there last year.

***overall conclusion: whether it's feb 27 or march 1, the goal must be "secure the player." don't wait it out or get cute: just secure the player.

No

All or nothing. Put all your eggs in a basket. No more playing it safe. If he truly wants to be here then he’ll come. Simple as that. Traded to Dallas for Dirk and blah blah blah? He vetoes extension. Traded to NY? Says he’ll think about it….then vetoes it. And comes here in July.

thing is what if lakers or knicks played that game with cp3...

woulda got burned. dwight in july is the dream scenario. but there’s other teams in this fray

i’m not goin to lie seeing us lose all these games hurt.. i don’t mind waiting but does dwill wana wait? i mean we will have our pick along with houstons cause it does seem like they gona make the playoffs.. along with marshon. and if we can keep dwill then d12 is bound to come in the summer…

Dwight is always going to prefer that 5th year so if you can trade for him you do it.

There is a ton of things that could happen between here and july and the sooner you can secure dwight the better, it’s that simple. Stein said that dwight’s camp would push for a trade after the ASG which means that dwight wants that 5th year and at this point you have to please dwight and push for a trade also. Even if Dwight will be a Net regardless the nets have to show that they want him now and get him now and not tomorrow.

surely their not just going to give him away

but if marshon is the only thing holding up the deal he has to go as…as much as it would hurt it would need to be done.

No. Its that kind of thinking that will have Nets trade away all thier assets

(Lopez, Swag, draft picks) Plus have us take Hedo back which would kill our cap space.
do you really think that Deron and Dwight plus crap will win a championship? yeah we will win some games get a second or third seed but then after a few years they will get old and the Nets will be back in Moiseville with nothig to show for it….

They'll be able to get rid of hedo as an expiring after next season

Although I don’t think that they’ll take hedo if they trade marshon.

YES YES YES YES YES

REC’D!!!

dwight isn’t a lock, and we’re DESPERATE to get him. if we try to wait it out till free agency and he goes to orlando, this franchise is finished. over. done.

we can’t take that risk. i completely agree with your fanpost.

Bottam line is this

Lopez and picks were a given, with possibly Morrow and Farmar.

That may change to be Brooks instead of Morrow.

The only additional “asset” would be Marshon. The rest are role players and we can get more of those. I wouldn’t want Marshon to go, but as stated, we need to secure Dwight while we can.

CP3 didn’t talk about the Clips and now he is loving it there and wants to stay (just bought a house). Don’t want to take that chance with Dwight.

I would love to have him as FA also, but let’s not get too cocky.

Lock it up as soon as possible.

Why are you even talking about the Knicks?

The Knicks have no connection to this Dwight situation.

CP3 went to LAC because he wanted out of NO. He did’nt sign an extension with them, he exercised his option year. He’ll be leaving after next season and he will go whereever he wants because he can do that.

LBJ, Wade, Bosh all went to Miami because they could go anywhere they wanted because they were free agents.

The only thing that makes me want to do the trade now is the possibility of Dwight changing his mind last minute. July is several months away… People can change their minds in a heart beat. If we do the trade now it’s a lock, done deal, finished, end of story. On the other hand i would prefer we sign him as a free agent so we don’t have to give up any assets. If we do trade for him i don’t think we will be giving up as much as everyone thinks we are because we have more leverage than Orlando. They either trade him and get something for him or he walks and they get nothing.

It has also been said that Dwight and Deron would be willing to stick around if BK can get the pieces they want...

Need to keep some leverage here to make more deals, or else they might just bolt and we are left screwed big time. I wouldnt trade all our assets, especially since houstons pick is looking like it is coming out of this draft. I am not saying low ball, but need to maintain some ability.
Brook+Brooks+ 2 first rounders+ cap relief (turks contract) for Dwight is giving up way too much. Not saying that its trade in value might end up being equal to Dwight but it just kills the nets. BK needs to hold strong Lopez, Farmar, Okur + our 2 first rounders this year. This will give them way more oppurtunity than the Bynum case. It might now essentially be win now, but it has a good future + more assets to rely on.

NOT GIVING UP SWAG POINT BLANK!!!! In no time he is going to be the one. Jason Kidd Jr. Deron running the ball, Kobe to be 2 Swagshone running the wing, an Superman in the middle who going to stop that an humprey the bull in the mix an a good pickup 4 the 3 championship with the right edition role players its a rap!!!!!!
