The Nets announced Tuesday morning that Brook Lopez will not play against the Knicks. It will be the sixth game that Lopez has missed after suffering a "mild" sprain in his right foot.

Lopez had 22 points, 11 rebounds and five blocks in the Nets' win over the Knicks on Nov. 26. He scored the Nets' final five points of regulation and another key basket in overtime.

Billy King met with reporters and, according to Rod Boone, suggested that Lopez "might not make the trip to Toronto" for Wednesday's game against the Raptors. After that, the Nets play Friday against Detroit and Saturday in Chicago.

Avery Johnson said that Reggie Evans will get his second straight start at power forward.

Stefan Bondy reports that Lopez's foot is uninsured which may have been a factor in the decision not to play him. According to a league source, Lopez's four-year, $60.8 million contract has an exclusion for his foot, but that the insurance company can lift the exclusion if Lopez plays a certain number of games. The situation is regularly evaluated as well by the insurance company in conjunction with the team and its physicians.

Insurance normally pays 80 percent of a player's salary and many players have exclusions based on their injury history.
