Blaming Avery is overlooking the fact that Deron is the de facto coach, GM and leader of this team in re-signing with the team and become the "savior" of Brooklyn Nets…the day I see Avery scream on him is the day this team will have a chance…if this does not happen, his teammates will begin to resent the fact they get berated for little details but the so-called leader is a given a pass each and every time.
Forget stats for a moment and look at the impact of the game and at crucial point of the game…
So far his defense has led to average or little better than average PG have a winning impact on the game (Lowry, Barrea, Shved, etc.) and I see no steals, disruption of offense caused by his effort….
His offense looks nice statistically but not winning basketball…taking pull up jumpers and threes is not what this team needs with all this talent…..it’s nice when he makes them but long run inefficient, low percentage and leaves the defense vulnerable to long rebound breakouts…too much talent surrounding him for this to be the first option.
Intangibles disappointing so far…his lazy, unnecessary behind the back pass set the "gas off the pedal" tone, his "heat check" pull up from three was ill-advised, lack of attention to details, his persistent pouting at teammates, coach, referees are not indicative of a good leader….
Lastly, he's not in great shape and needs to shed at least 5-10 pouunds so he can gain some sorely needed quickness on offense to drive and defense to keep opposing PGs in front of him.
So far, he reminds me too much of Carmelo/Starbury led team as opposed to a JKidd team….I actually enjoy watching Tyshawn and CJ run the point than Deron. Old Jkidd is having more of a positive impact on the Knicks than our 100 million dollars "superstar" in his prime point guard.
I reserve judgment and I hope he proves me wrong in the long run. We shall see…
