I know i can be a bit pessimistic on the boards and people get on me for that but there are some things I need discuss with my fellow Net fans. Please note, these points are not just coming from tonight's loss to Boston but from ideas i had going into this season that have been confirmed early on here in preseason.
-If Lopez is being guarded by a good post defender and/or teams are double teaming him (like Celtics did tonight) he is almost useless. He wasnt able to make any adjustments when the doubles were coming. Brook has to learn how to pass out of double teams and get deeper post position or its going to be a long year for him.
-Avery has been preaching DEFENSE hard all camp and this team is very bad defensively. I knew they werent gonna be great but i thought with a coach dedicated to defense, they could be decent. Not so. Not yet at least. You cant win without defense and we have a long way to go.
-JJ has looked good at moments in preseason but not being able to go by or or atleast body C. Lee on offense worried me. I thought that was going to be a bad mismatch for Lee but JJ didnt do anything all night with it. He cant be streaky shooter, ISO-Joe anymore. He has to attack and he didnt do that with a guy 3 inches shorter.
-This team is very easy to defend because we dont have any pure shooters. (Not even gonna consider Mirza right now) The paint gets too clogged up and theres no spacing.
-The chemistry is understandably bad right now and that will change BUT..the Celtics have plenty of new players outside of the Big 3 and they seemed to work well together already. I saw a few nice plays b/w Lee, Terry and Sullinger and those guys dont exactly have a history together. Doc is a great coach. Will Avery get these guys playing like a TEAM soon enough?
I know its early and chemistry will come but lets be fair - some if these issues go beyond chemistry and "its just preseason." Thoughts?
