We Need To Move Some Salary Still for Dwight
For 2012.
If Dwight makes it to free agency, we do have enough money to offer him a Max contract.. if we renounce Lopez.
Otherwise I think we are about $8m over where we need to be. Farmar and Shawne W. both have player options for next year, and while Farmar has hinted he could opt out to start somewhere (maybe back in Israel), we can't assume he will. We also can't assume Shawne will either, considered how awful he has looked this year.
That said we have the following contracts in 2012 we could move:
Farmar
Shawne W.
Petro
Morrow
D.James
We could stretch exception Petro which would saves us $1.75m, We can also decline the option on D.James. That would leave us with about $41.5m in committed salary.. not including our pick or roster holds. If you add about $2.5m for our pick and about $2m in roster holds (to get to the 12 man limit), we're closer to $46m. In order to sign Dwight we need about $40m in committed salary on the books to fit in the $17.5m he can make here.
Thus, at minimum we need to clear about $5-6m is salary if we declined James and stretched Petro.
A rough breakdown:
Deron Williams - $17,500,000
Anthony Morrow - $4,000,000
Jordan Farmar - $4,250,000
Johan Petro - $1,750,000
Brook Lopez - $9,200,000
Damion James - $0
Shawne W. - $3,200,000
Brooks - $1,200,000
Jordan W.- $500,000
#1 - $2,500,000
Holds - $2,000,000
Total salaries: $46,100,000
BTW...Does anyone know by when Farmar and Petro need to decide if they are picking up their options?

I don't know much about the new CBA, but
We can sign Dwight first. After that, we can sign other guys (take advantage of Prokhorov’s money) and then sign Deron using bird rights. It’s kind of like what the Heat did.
If that way isn’t valid, then yeah, we need to trade Farmar somehow. Include Damian James in the deal if that’s what it takes to make it happen.
Deron's Cap Hold is for a max contract
So there’s no added benefit in waiting to resign him after signing Howard.
we also have lopez rights
he’s a rfa so we can match any offer. so if we sign d12 1st den dwill n den lopez we good.
Can't stretch provision Petro
You can only use the stretch provision on players signed under this CBA, i.e. Shawne Williams.
Also, Lopez’s cap hold should be roughly $7.7mil.
Really?
I thought it was 300% of his old salary.
And I keep forgetting about the Stretch thing. I actually did the math with Shawne at first and then changed it to Petro for the slightly extra savings.

If Farmar opts out & we stretch Shawne we'll have enough room to sign Dwight & keep Brook
But yes, better make sure & try really hard to dump Petro, Farmar & Shawne before the deadline.
Only thing is, it may take assets to do so
I had a Raptor fan wanting to do Morrow and Petro for Barbosa.
That would clear the space, but we lose a favorite of Dwight and Deron.

Think it is going to be hard to keep both
I think we may be a better team if we sign dwight and keep hump at the 4. Might be easier to do.
I just learned Jan. 25 is the deadline to exercise the options for players on rookie scale contracts
will be interesting to see what we do with James.
the minimum salary cap holds are also incorrect
the league minimum salary is below $500,000. 2 cap holds = less than $1,000,000.
Also, the Nets’ #1pick will command only 2.5mil if it’s #6. I doubt that the Nets’ pick will be that high after Brook Lopez comes back.
But those numbers aren’t that important.
If Dwight does make it to FA, then the Nets have tons of extra assets to shed some salary, but it won’t take much. Farmer might leave anyway. Washington, the past 2 seasons, used cap room to take on small contracts just for cash, Yi and Turiaf. Farmar, Shw Williams, and Ammo have value and would be on small, expiring deals. Petro stinks but would also be on a small, expiring deal, attach a 1st rounder and he could probably be moved easily.
compare that to Dallas in which they would have to move either Marion or Haywood. No one will touch Haywood, he can be Amnestied. Marion though is owed an average of $9mil for the next 2 years, and he’s putting up pathetic numbers: 8ppg, 40%FG 15%3pt. It’ll take a lot of incentives to move him for pure cap room. It doesn’t look like anyone would want the lst year of Odom’s contract either the way he’s playing. If he’s not traded, he’ll need to be bought out for 2.5mil.
Columnists keep speculating that Dallas can fit Dirk, D-Will, and D12. If Dallas can move those terrible contracts, then Farmar, Shw Williams, Ammo, and Petro are also all very movable.
Yeah, I wasn't sure the minimum cap holds, but I think that is close
The point is.. don’t be surprised to see a couple salary dumps, as we need to move about $3m if we stretch Shawne and decline D.James.
