Welcome Back, New York Nets

New Jersey Nets

The Nets won't be moving (back) to New York until next October when they arrive as the Brooklyn Nets. But expect the New York Nets to make an appearance in the NBA this season. The Nets are one of eight teams that will wear retro ("Hardwood Classic") uniforms during the 2011-12 season, starting February 6.

The uniforms will honor ABA teams either linked to their current franchise or which previously played in their home city.

For the Nets, of course, that would be the red, white and blue uniform with stars running down the side, the kind made famous by Dr. J during the Nets two championship seasons in 1974 and 1976. The Nets will be wearing their retro uniforms February 6 vs. the Bulls; February 11 vs. the Spurs; February 15 vs. the Grizzlies; February 22 vs. the Magic and March 7 vs. the Clippers.

As Trey Kerby of Basketball Jones writes in his review of the eight, "So great. Best of the bunch, I’d say. Plus, it gives us all a chance to get used to the Nets rocking New York stuff on their chests, which will be helpful for next season. Always good to be prepared".

Believe it or not

the Nets never had a Williams on their roster in the ABA. They added their first one the year they joined the NBA (Earl Williams, a whopping 7 min played).

Oh Lordy

Knick fans are starting to get riled up, i’ve already heard from a few this AM

Now they’ll trade Amare for a rental! lol

The Knicks have opened talks that would send Amare Stoudemire to Orlando in a swap to rent Dwight Howard, reports Donny Marshall — former NBA player and current CSNNE reporter — on NBC SportsTalk Thursday.

Sounds like Orlando is starting to get nervous.

As long as Howard, Deron and BK are talking, Howard to NETS is a done deal, Trade or no trade with Orlando. This is a different scenario than with Melo. NETS have a superstar PG and Howard actually demanded a trade to the NETS.

Eating dudes for lunch

As Chad Ford said about Marshon:

But I’ll say this, I’m going to break my own rule about whether workouts matter, and things like that. I saw him go two on two with Chris Singleton. I saw him going with JaJuan Johnson, I saw him going with Enes Kanter in that Hoops Gym. I’ve seen a lot of guys over the year go into that gym, a lot of pro’s, a lot of Hall of Famers playing in that gym. That kid was killing everybody, including Chris Singleton. He can play. Whether his head’s on straight, I don’t know. I didn’t go do the background check. I heard some of the same stuff. Whether he’s going ot be able to adjust to a team or whatever. All those things are legitimate question marks, but at 27, what’s the risk in a bad draft?

Its young factor and the gamble people put in potential

Favors is NBA ready IMO, its just playing time he needs to get. He didn’t get it here, and he’s competing with 2 proven big men on the Jazz. He’s shown some great signs when he’s on the court, and will only continue to get better.

Majority doesn't but when they do

its worth it. The problem with potential in the NBA is that the NBA consist of proven players that actually have an establish game, so its even harder now for those that are still developing to get the playing time. Favors was already developed in my opinion, but there is no excuse for the Nets to not start him, especially since they were such a bad team.

A big knock on him is that he's a ball stopper

So far that’s true, but I hope he can develop out of that. He’s the anti-Morrow. While Morrow needs a shot created for him, it almost seems as if Brooks needs to create his own shot. He doesn’t move the ball in the flow of an offense. Once he receives the ball, he backs it out & always tries to take his guy one on one. You never see him receive a pass & move the ball on immediately without pausing and/or dribbling. You don’t really see him making good cuts.

I believe & hope he can develop that a better feel for the game. I shutter to think what he would have been like (a train wreck0 in a motion/Princeton-style offense like we ran in the Kidd days.

by TheNetsFan on Jan 6, 2012 1:35 PM EST up reply actions

He's a rookie, that's expected

but him being a rookie is no excuse. I wanted him weeks before the draft, and I’m glad we have him. But he really seems to be on dimensional as of now. I’m not knocking him though, he’s the right player for this team and was a steal.

What's worse?

Teams letting a talent like Brooks drop to 27th, or the fact that the Nets drafted Antoine Wright while Danny Granger was still available?

Drafting Sam Bowie instead of Michael Jordan

Once again, I agree that at the time of the draft, Bowie was probably the vast majority's pick at #2...

However, that was an unsual draft. The mere fact that Jordan is the greaest to ever do it makes portland look bad. Is it fair? Ofcourse not. But it is what it is

Since people love to talk about our 6rpg 7 footer

7 foot tall Dirk Nowitzki is averaging 5.6 rpg in 31+ mpg so far this season.

At the same time...

His DRB% is 18.0%. Last year, Lopez’s was 12.3%.

by Dopeness on Jan 6, 2012 1:13 PM EST up reply actions

He's been fading badly on the glass the last 2 seasons

7.7
7.0
5.6

His PPG have gone way down too.. but he steps it up in the post-season

I don't really care

team rebounds are more important than individual rebounds.

he's also a 33 year old POWER FORWARD

shooting career 38% from 3. shooting 88% from free throw line on 6.5 attempts

his defensive rebound rate is almost 6 percentage points higher than Lopez

he also has a higher usage rate and much lower turnover rate

so in other words: Brook is trying to succeed as a poor poor mans Dirk and its not working since Brook is a center and because he will never posses all the skills that make Dirk, Dirk.

I hope we don't wear them

unless our team is near full strength. getting blown out seems more embarrassing if you wearing the special jerseys.
