Ratner: Facade Supplier Collapse Won't Affect Barclays Schedule
MaryAnne Gilmartin, the executive vice-president of Forest City Ratner, believes the collapse of ASI Limited won't cause any delays in the September 28 opening of Barclays Center. "We are concerned when any of our partners has problems, but we don't believe it will affect our construction schedule," said Gilmartin.
ASI of Whitestown, IN, went out of business over the Christmas holidays, laying off 250 workers. ASI had the contract to manufacture the 11,998 unique weathered-steel panels that will make up the arena's distinctive facade. Installing them was a construction challenge even before the company's surprise collapse. FCR said it has an "action plan" to deal with the issue, but declined to say what that entails.

She BELIEVES it won't slow it down.
so I share my good friend 3ptChucker’s skepticism.

No exterior panels, so this changes the building design, which calls for: New Environmental Study!!!!

Yeah I mean in the real world with no salary cap
Rich people usually get what they want.
"We're not there yet, but we're going somewhere," Johnson said. "And we're going to Brooklyn. We're not going to contract. We're going to Brooklyn."

i have heard this

And the job will probably get done on time
but the Forest City people seem less confident these days. Maybe the transition to Brooklyn is harder than they anticipated.

Wall Paper with a weathered steel design on it should do.
Electric bills will be higher though.
That is what I was thinking, but they should have consulted him before letting 250 workers go.
I really don’t see how they solve the problem without having another company take over the project.
If if all of the panels were off the assembly line, there is need for testing and replacement parts.
Every panel is supposed to be different. You can’t have spare panels on hand.
This has got to cost a lot of $ to find a solution.
I would guess these panel are just a facade. Just for looks.
Not the structural walls of the building. They can open and operate the arena without them.
It must really, really suck after bidding on a fixed price contract for almost 12,000 items (at least $1,000,000+), and winning it, you then find out you bid too low, you are losing money on every panel and you have to declare bankruptcy.
I'm all in. Go Nets!

At least the roof isn't delayed
They’re starting to add new “white” panels on top of the existing “grey” panels on the roof over the front of the arena.

Since these panels had to go through an acclerated aging process of about 3 months
Shouldn’t the construction of the panels be largely complete by now? Do you have any info about this Net Income?
Typical responses as usual
I was not surprised to hear Gillmartin avoid the answer on where will the steel panels will be comming from after what happened. I have heard a lot of statements like this, and saying that they declined to comment is nothing new to me either. After hearing how the arena can be three months late does bring up the skepticism even more. Then again, when you have friends in high places like Ratner does, you can probably bribe the safety commission to look the other way. Of course if it collapses, I wouldn’t be surprised either. Of course, Ratner won’t care where or how he will get the needed steel panels, because he knows he isn’t paying for it. Once again, I thank Oder for covering the real story unlike those who ask just softball him. On a side note, Battle for Brooklyn will playing at the indeScreen this weekend for those who have yet to see it, and it will be a must see if the Nets win tonight.
We had a deal
The next win for the Nets meant that everyone has to see the film. If you see it, you can at least say to others that you saw it, otherwise, they will think that you some connections with FCR, who have refused to see it as well in the claim it was biased. For you jerry, I heard that it will be showing in Pittsburgh from 1/13 to 1/15 over at the Harris Theater, so here is you oppurtunity, and don’t tell me that it’s too far you, because Harrisburg is sort of in the middle between Pittsburgh and Philly.. Overall, until you actually see the film, nothing you see about it will be viewed as legitimate at least to me. One other thing, look for where I make a cameo in there, because I do make two in there. Meanwhile, In the Footprint is still playing at the Anneburg Center in Philly if you have yet to see that one as well.
