Islanders And Devils To Play First Preseason Game In Brooklyn
Hockey will be played at Barclays Center. The Nets officially announced Tuesday that the New York Islanders will play a preseason game in Brooklyn on Oct. 2, just four days after the official opening of the Nets' new arena.
The Islanders, not the Nets, will play the first pro sports game of any kind at the new arena.
And the Islanders' opponent for the game will be the Nets' current landlord at the Prudential Center, the New Jersey Devils.
"We already have some of the most passionate fans in the league supporting our young team, and we are looking forward to expanding our base into Brooklyn," said Islanders GM Garth Snow. Brett Yormark left no doubt that this is an audition for a permanent move when the Islanders lease at Nassau Coliseum runs out in 2015. In a phone conversation with the Times Tuesday, Yormak said, “We would love for [Islander owner] Charles [Wang] to consider Brooklyn.”

To be successful, apparently Avery's Defense System requires it to be manned by NBA All-Defensive Team.
Lol the striking background isn’t suited for hockey

Good! I'll definitely be there
This is a great opportunity for all involved. I doubt it’ll lead to any more of a relationship between the Isles and the Barclays Center, but stranger things have happened.
With the Nets and Islanders scheduled for Barclays, maybe they could ask the Cubs to play some indoor baseball to add to the ‘tortured fan base’ ambiance…
sounds like
it will be the first professional game played at the arena…in any sport

Do they have boxing events planned @ Barclays?
There were a lot of fighters from BK a few years ago. My boy Paulie Malignaggi should be a part of it.

Wasn't the Nassau Coliseum built for the Nets?
The Isles eventually snagged it from us…
Its happening again?
Nassau Coliseum was built for the Islanders.
Long Island, longtime home to the Rangers farm club, the Long Island Ducks (and decades before that the New York Rovers) had until the 1990s always been a hotbed for hockey. After nearly four decades of being a top minor league draw, the county wanted their own NHL team. They built the Coliseum with the hopes of gaining an expansion team.
While the venue was planned, announced, built in the late ‘60s/early ’70s, Roy Boe’s ABA New York Nets were playing in miniscule venues in front of miniscule crowds. The ABA was considered a minor league during its early years and Nassau County never intended on building a pro arena for a minor league hoops team.
But when Boe won the rights for an NHL expansion team (the Islanders) he was allowed to use the building for the Nets too. The Islanders weren’t supposed to start play until the 72-73 season but since the Coliseum was mostly complete by the spring of ’72, the Nets got to use the building before the Islanders. Still, although the Nets got there first, there was never any doubt that the Coliseum was built for the Islanders.
Ironic that now the Islanders will play in Brooklyn before the Nets.
Opulence, I has it.
