Arena Facade Manufacturer Closes; Effect On Timetable Uncertain
The exterior of the Barclays Center will be made up of 11,998 weathered steel panels, none of them like another. The distinctive facade is likely to be the most iconic feature of the arena, but with much of the panels still to be emplaced, the company that manufactures them has closed its doors.
ASI Limited of Whitestown, IN, announced to its 250 employees last week that it was "winding down" its business because the company was "no longer profitable." It's uncertain how the decision to close the Indiana facility will affec the Barclays Center schedule. The panels were pre-weathered in Indiana, then shipped to Brooklyn.
A Nets spokesman declined comment when asked how the closing would affect arena construction.

Reality 4: The same as the above happens but the half-season run ends with the Nets narrowly missing the playoffs, Howard decides he hates the cold and he and Williams both book it in free agent, leaving millions and millions of dollars on the table. (Nets fans call this "the impossible nightmare" due to the money they would have to surrender.) The Nets in this scenario lose everything they gave up in the Utah deal (picks, Derrick Favors, Devin Harris), and whatever they give up in the Howard trade (picks, Lopez, and having to take on Turkoglu’s salary) and wind up with nothing. Nada. Zilch. Zero. They have all the cap room in the world but will have struck out on the following players in free agency or trade talks: Lebron James, Dwyane Wade, Chris Bosh, Amar’e Stoudemire, Carlos Boozer, Carmelo Anthony, Deron Williams, Dwight Howard. At that point you’re running out of All-Stars to try and buy yourself. This is, in fact, "the darkest timeline." And the monkey probably steals King’s pen.
This made my heart beat a little.. good God please don’t let this happen..

lol, this is just pathetic. the damn company making the facade can't even stay in business.
the facade could honestly be put on after the entire arena is built, so it’s nothing serious. but it’s still funny in the “you gotta be kidding me how bad does this look for the organization” department
NI
You told me there was nothing that coukd delay the opening of the arena.
But as I told you, unforeseen things can always happen in construction.
so you know this will cause a delay?
and I dont recall ever using those words.

You brought up examples of the Knicks arena and what not.
Not saying this WILL cause a delay but it COULD. These kind of things happen with construction and with this being on such a time crunch, one delay could jeopardize that whole year. You scoffed at that when I brought it up a couple months ago.

This ASI situation might be more complex then just facade panels...
ASILIMITED will create the entrance that will bring millions of fans to the new Barclays Arena from the NYC Subway. This complimentary designed structure by SHoP Architects will incorporate all products being used on the Barclays Facade Enclosure. Work begins in December 2011.
I would imagine the Barclay's project is a significant order for ASI
It’s highly unusual for such a company to shut down at the beginning of this major project… unless Ratner/Prok are not paying bills…

The WWE would like to announce that it has bought the New Jersey Nets from Russian billionaire Mikhail Prokhorov. The new Barclay’s Center will now be caged inside a STEEL CAGE.
Remember...
You will be able to see the scoreboard from the street.
Maybe this was planned. Just bring a jacket to the game, a gaping hole in the arena might let the heat out.

It’s been a while since the Nets rose above #20 in the Power Rankings, maybe in early 2008-09 when Devin Harris and Vince Carter were dropping 30 points on alternate nights. Not since. Not that we can recall. And with fans fearing the worst (12-70 worst) and Deron Williams unable to sleep, it’s hard to be optimistic.
With that said Nets still have a chance to get better, or maybe i will lose my money again. If we aint going to wim 20 games this season i’ll be depressed.

hate to say this but
I just don’t see a sense of urgency with AJ rotations and play calling. There’s no way I’m letting Farmar’s fresh body go to waste. Why aren’t the Nets using the press more? Use Deron Jordan and Yatta press full court and use 3-2 zone to keep players off the 3 pt line. It just seems like AJ is content just making progress. As a HC I want to win every possession quarter half and game. That’s just me.
Maybe one day all will be revealed...
But for now I will take that “leap of faith”.
What else can we do ?… Quit ?

Yeah. I somewhat agree.
However, Demarcus is already possesses elite rebounding skills and has tons of offensive talent. BK would have to think long and hard about a 1 for 1 deal.
Obviously it would be ideal to keep both.

The 1st because a dominant frontcourt is where you want to begin building your NBA team.
A Lopez/Cousins/Hump front court would be pretty damn good.
You don’t need an amazing two guard to win, but a really good front court is absolutely essential.

Because we're starting guys like
Sundiata Gaines, Damion James, Anthony Morrow, Sheldon Williams, and Johan Petro.
so you are saying we are tanking
to improve our pick on Howard deal?
No.
The Nets are bad because they did not sign any impact free agents that would hinder the pursuit of Dwight Howard. They settled for guys that were willing to take one year deals so they would have the cap space to sign Howard in order to keep pressure on Orlando.
If the Nets did not have the cap space, Orlando would have no reason to move Dwight. They could simply say that they would keep him because there would be no other attractive team with cap space as neither the Lakers or the Nets would be able to get him in free agency.
MarShon Brooks has the dreaded.

Let the show begin!
Jazz are going to be really good. Billy King is such an idiot..
We got their disgruntled point guard with a sore wrist and they got a guy who looks like he will be a beast. I’m watching him right now against Milwaukee and he looks way more comfortable and getting slowly more and more assertive.
He would have been a great player next to Brook Lopez, probably even masking a lot of Brook’s flaws. Next year in his third season I won’t be surprised if we see BIG things from Derrick Favors.
As everyone else says, I just hope Billy knows something we don’t.
lets get cousins.
he probably won’t be too expensive, and he can offset the loss of favors a bit.
No.. Favors is going to be way better than Cousins’ ceiling.

bulls in the toilet one game
nets in the toilet all season, dont worry about chicago they will be fine, they might even come back and win this game if they turn their d on.
If Marshon Brooks is averaging 20+ pgg by the trade dealine
I say we give the Magic a choice to pick 2 out of the following 3 + Rockets 2012 First.
Brook Lopez, Marshon Brooks, Nets 2012 First + Rockets 2012 First
oh, they would also get Hump, Okur, James, and Farmar to match salaries.
that's a lot to ask
if he averages 20ppg by march I’d take him off of the table, and push Brook, 2 1st rders(ours will be valuable), and cap space
by that time, we’ll be beneath the toilet, so I see no reason to give them Brooks in a deal. Our pick will be a lottery pick screw them

they barely have had any practices which is critical for defensive rotations and schemes.
You can’t really put that on AJ just yet.
That obviously hurts
I'm all in. Go Nets!

NETS CURSED
Prokhorov can finally put his money to good use.
Buy the panel manufacturer and finish the arena.
Other than that – THE ROY BOE CURSE is alive and well.
The more I look at it I think the Lakers will try and trade for another PG or a wing player
Not sure there going to be going aggressively after D-12. Things can obviously change by the deadline but to me what I have read doesn’t feel like the Lakers are loosing sleep over D12.
"We're not there yet, but we're going somewhere," Johnson said. "And we're going to Brooklyn. We're not going to contract. We're going to Brooklyn."
starting to feel like that too
Especially since the bigs they have now are playing good.

agreed
Bynum is perfectly capable and a good fit for their team, not to mention he has familiarity. their true, glaring weakness is the point guard. I’d think they’d prefer a big PG improvement over a good but not entirely necessarily (and possibly roster-weakening) Center switch
