Why would each team do this deal?
The Kings get a guy that can be the best PG on their team. Not a SCORER but a PG. They get a big in Petro that's used to being a backup, won't cause friction and they get the cash to offset his contract this year so it's a no lose situation. If he fails there also, he becomes an expiring contract next year. A first round pick is self explanatory. They move a guy who obviously doesn't want to be there and they calm the waters.
With Mayo coming up on free agency, it's possible that Memphis may not have the cash to sign him. With this trade, they get a young shooter in Morrow who's under contract for a couple of years. They get a young guy in James, who I have some hopes for but we have to give up something to get somehing. A guy like him can come in handy in the playoffs for Memphis when they play the big time scorers. Whiteside is a project and has time to grow with the bigs in front of him.
The Nets move Farmar's, Morrow's and Petro's contracts. They get the low post presence and toughness that they DESPERATELY NEED. Plus he's still young and he either becomes a trade chip for a possible Dwight deal or he allows Hump to become expendable. With Hump being an expiring contract, he's going to be VERY VALUABLE on the trade market. They get a guy in Mayo that can create his own shot. He can allow Brooks to go back to the bench so that our bench scoring can improve. What are we getting from our bench so far? With Mayo being a free agent, he can become a valuable trade chip also. If you're Orlando, do you want picks or guys that have done something on the NBA level? Choice B make it easier to sell to their fans. Did I mention that the Nets would be rid of Petro? The Nets would be dealing out $12.5 million in contracts. They'd be taking back $9.3 million. Mayo's $5.6 million contract can come off the books so we have more cap space to play with. It's a win-win all the way around for the Nets.
This deal would allow us to stay competitive until Brook and Hump come back. Plus Deron would get some sleep. We can either keep the team as is or make the play for Dwight because we'd have more valuable chips to work with. If we deal one or two picks in this deal, I think it'll help us in the long run AND the short run. I'd be OK with moving a high pick to the Kings. Let's get done BK.
What do you guys think?
