Scrubs for Scraps

The idea of Dwight Howard wearing a Nets jersey is truly coming into full realization. All the thoughts of lobs from Deron going into the palm of Dwight's slamming the rock into the hoop are beginning to hold more weight. As the possibility of him playing alongside Deron in the Barclays Center has become the most favorable. But what if all this imagining could include two great players named Brook Lopez and Marshon Brooks? Wouldn't a team like that on paper win countless championships? Well not with our capspace being in the position its in now. First things first Nets management needs to find suitors to take a combination of Farmar, Petro, and Morrow. Right now would be the best time to trade Farmar and Morrow simply because they've played well recently and their stock is higher as a result. Trading Petro is very unlikely because who the flying f wants him, although adding a first round pick to a deal should do the trick.
So I've done some searching, I've found scrubs that can rightfully play in a Nets Uni and will help us toward our most important goal so far! No its not winning the championship. If the Nets were so hard pressed to win the championship they would've begged Graham to resign. No the goal would be to sign Dwight Howard, Deron Williams, and Brook Lopez.
THUS CREATING OUR OWN BIG THREE!!! Brooks: "HEY WHAT ABOUT ME!"
Me: Sorry... Umm, nothing personal ok? Brooks: "Really? I'm not good enough?" Me: "Maybe... Gotta start playing some games and stop whining about your damn achilles!"
*Disclaimer: I never talked to Marshon Brooks, would never talk to him like that. *Disclaimer #2: All these scrubs are realistic trade options, that will help reduce our cap space. Therefore this fanpost is not just to call players scrubs. Please visit this link if your in dire need of saitre, and travesty. Onto my point
Indiana Pacers: $14,270,964 Cap Room First ScrubA.J Price *Jordan Farmar would be traded to the Pacers and A.J price (wierdo on the left) would be headed to the Nets. Why we do it? A.J Price is on a 1 year deal and we'll save $4 million in cap space next year. Why Pacers do it? Well he's not very good :D They are playoff bound, and a solid backup point guard won't hurt them. A 2nd rounder might be needed or the Nets might need one. Could be straight up, oh the possibilites... -_-
Scrub 2
(Nice flop there :D) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The scenario here would involve trading Dahntay Jones for Jordan Farmar. Jones is currently on a two year $2.7 million contract. Although he's not expiring and although I don't even like the guy in the event we trade Morrow he'd be a suitible backup to Brooks. Just limit his minutes, and even though it saves $1.7 million it all counts. Why we do it? Minute cap space reduction Allows Gaines to be the backup pg Not bad to have as a backup in case we trade Morrow Why they do it? Farmar gives them a better backup PG in Farmar
Cleveland Cavaliers: $6,847,207 Cap Room Third ScrubI wouldn't just call someone a scrub if they have only been in the NBA for 2 years and have shown that they have potential. But Semih Erden has been averaging less then Petro in about the same minutes per game. So for now he's a scrub, later that can change I'm sure. Petro for Semih Erden anyone? He's on a rookie contract I believe $762k (correct me if I'm wrong) and yay its expiring. Why we do it? Why not? Why they do it? Picks: Not sure if its worth our 1st pick, but something can be worked out. Either way $4mill off our shoulders sounds good, and he just might turn out to be decent. Might even be worth resigning next year once Humphries is gone. Toronto Raptors: $4,301,402 Cap Room Scrub Scenario 4James Johnson: Here are his stats if you haven't kept track
|
||||||||||||||
So another young guy in his second year, too early to judge; maybe. But he's still averaging just under 25 minutes a game, and Morrow nearly doubles his output in scoring with 12.8ppg at 28 minutes. So he's definitely a risk, and considering he's on a two year contract we still save a good amount.; he might also be a solid rotation player for us maybe even start O.o. No seriously its a possibility with our lack of cap space if we successfully landed Dwight, Lopez, and had Johnson; we'd only be able to sign minimum contracts by then.
I'd do this trade in tandem with the Farmar for Jones trade. Yea I know Jones isn't good, but this guy has shown some potential, and he's 6'9 who's on our team thats a true small forward that can defend? Shawne Williams? Stevenson? Nope. Not saying he can defend but his size, and his physique will definitely help to guard Lebron, Melo, and Outlaw.
Why we do it?
Tell you the truth I like the guy, to me for some odd reason I see him as a replacement to Damion James who's shown so far that he's better, and his rebounds and assist for a forward not bad, not bad at all.
Most of all 2 year contract on $1.8 million saving us $2.2 million. Doing this trade in tandem with the Farmar trade we'd save $3.9 million. Trade Petro + Picks for Erden thats another $4 million. Bam $8 million in cap space :D
Also take into consideration picks should be coming our way if a deal like this happened. Could then be used in the Petro deal.
Why they do it?
Anthony Morrow gives them what they have lacked for years overall as a team. Their best 3 point shooter is their Center who thankfully will be out this game. Then you can have Barbosa coming off the bench which is what I'd prefer, and then pair Morrow with Derozan.
Future lineup could look like this
Calderon Morrow Derozan Valuncunias Bargs
Not bad, not bad at all :D
Scrubb-a-dub-dub #5
Bayless is on a 1 year $3 million contract. Farmar straight up should do it, but if not picks won't hurt.
(Ironically we just played the Cavs, we're playing the Raps tommorow, and versing the Pacers Wednesday.)
At the end of all this our lineup should look like this next year without any signings other than Deron, Lopez, and Dwight. (I would automatically resign Shelden Williams without hesitation. He has been a great addition. IDC about all his missed catches or missed dunks, he's not meant for all that.)
Deron, Brooks, Bogdanovic?, Lopez, Howard
FA/2nd Round Pick, Jones, Johnson, Jordan Williams, Shelden Williams
-Lots of young players, but ideally the players we are centering our team around are pretty young. Stevenson should definitely be considered, as well as a solid SF from the 1st round if we keep our 1st pick. If not I wouldn't mind letting a guy James Johnson start as long as those 4 are surrounding him. Then ease Bogdanovic into the system, if he not he can be a role player off the bench.
~Let me know what you think~

I like James johnson
But isn’t his salary next year about 2.8 million? Not really clearing much space. Realistically, I would say that BK has some cap space teams lined upnto take at least Farmar for a second rounder in the case that the Magic try to take a run this year with Dwight. No idea who takes Petro without us including a 1st rounder. Just have faith that BK has 24 hrs a day to find a sucker…
I like
erden just because him and swollen play well together in turkey. and is much better than mvpetro

Pacers likely wouldnt need or want Farmar
1) Have George Hill and Collison
2) May need cap space to throw a max offer at Indiana native, Eric Gordon.. Farmar, while he can opt out, is signed for next season as well
Yes they can
But he holds a 7.1 mil dollar cap hold. If we renounce him it frees up the cap space but we can’t go over the cap to sign him.
how about?
farmar n J Williams for dooling n Johnson?
morrow petro 2nd rounder 4 twill n hill?
morrow petro 4 brad miller n randolph?
Dwight has publicly said he wants to play with morrow so I don’t think he should be traded. I actually think he is doing well for the money we pay him. With an inside presence that will only help him more
Ask yourself, does another Morrow really make a difference? Is he the deciding factor, I’m sure he’s just a player he wants to play with but as long as D-Will’s on the team it won’t matter.
-Justin L.
Farmar is also playing very well
I know everyone is on the Dwight or bust plan, but our backcourt is very good and I would like to keep all of them when Dwight arrives because “THEY CAN ALL SHOOT”. A very important skill when u have Dwight on the team.
We need to dump 7Mil
That means 2 contracts worth 7Mil. So any 2 of a combination of Petro/Farmar/Morrow will do it.
wait, i don't really get it
are we trading farmar to three teams?
Billy King: Hey Indiana, we’ll give you Farmar’s left arm for AJ Price.
Indiana GM: Come on man, at least give us a leg.
BK: Sorry man, already promised his legs to toronto for bayless.
LOL
you used my FINE meme :D
and my little story pic thing that you messed with
nice post tho

I'm kinda confused on why we would even want to give up Morrow?
If he doesn’t start, he could be a great spark off the bench or in clutch time situations with his 3pt shooting. Not worth it for a “scrub”.

I understand, but I’m still confused whether we can or cannot go over the cap to sign Lopez. If it came down to $4 million in cap space or less he’d be an option to trade. But man the way Bayless played tonight wouldn’t seem like such a bad idea now :D
-Justin L.
yes, we can go over the cap to maintain Lopez, but at least his cap hold of 7M counts for the salary cap...
2012 Lineup: D-Will - Brooks - AK47 - Lopez - D12... Book it!
But Morrow is a good piece...
Would be Great to trade Farmar, Shawne and Petro for expiring contracts.
But Shawne and Pespecially Petro will be really hard to trade unless we give up some future 1st round picks.
2012 Lineup: D-Will - Brooks - AK47 - Lopez - D12... Book it!
I'm pretty sure the Nets won't be dealing Farmar
anytime soon. I’m thinking that they are going to need him in a D12 deal, just like he was included in the D12 deal that collapsed before the season. I was in the same boat as you wanting to deal him, but Nets need him so his deal matches up with Duhon.
We'll Be Fine.

Yup.
Not even necessarily for Duhon.
Hump needs to give approval for any trade involving him so he may be off the table entirely meaning we need all the small contracts we can manage if we’re even hoping to keep Morrow.

Just not seeing Bayless at all, nor the point of Dahntay Jones or James Johnson.
Some suggestions:
Nocioni – Sixers
Delfino – Bucks
Ilyosova – Bucks
C.J. Miles – Jazz
Darrel Arthur – Grizzlies
Chris Wilcox – Celtics
Dooling – Celtics
Barbosa – Raptors
Amundson – Pacers
Hinrich – Hawks
Nazr Mohammed – Thunder
Martell Webster – Wolves
Brad Miller – Wolves
Andre Miller – Nuggets
Jordan Hill – Rockets
Hasheem Thabeet – Rockets
TPE – Lakers
All the above are expirings or partial guarantees of peanuts.

I really think Miles and Webster would fit in with our team. After last night I’m not sure Stevenson can start anymore, he’s too banged up. I’ve brought those two up a lot, I don’t know the free agent’s next year so perhaps there’s someone that out there that can start on the cheap.
Yea, not much point in Bayless took me some time to think about that. But we need a guy like Johnson now, just not sure about next year. It’s best if I just wait cause 9 times out of 10 Billy King pulls up something that is way better than I could’ve expected and its something you’d least expect.

Nice Post!
I just love this post, I may not agree with everything proposed, but I admire your creativity.
I think people on this site are just the best. GO NETS!

One Question/Problem
Didn’t Dwight specifically call out Morrow as someone he wants to play with? Morrow could benefit big time from Howard although I would never keep him if it meant being out of Dwight contention.
"We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit." -Aristotle
I'd do the Price and Erden trades
I think Pacers would be more willing to make that trade now that Hill is injured and may be out for a while.
Critical Success!
BUT
you need to make sure that we don’t go below the salary cap, because it makes it more difficult to trade for Dwight. If you’re over the cap, you can take in the lesser of 150% or $5 million more than the outgoing salary. If you’re under the cap, you can only take in contracts up to the salary cap. Either trade puts us under the salary cap. So on second thought, I’d just do Petro and the Houston pick for Ryan Hollins and send Farmar to the Lakers for a second rounder.
Critical Success!
