No Hard Feelings For Nets, Ratner As Frank Heads Home To New Jersey

Photo

Mitch Lawrence talks to Lawrence Frank who will return to New Jersey for the first time on Wednesday when his Pistons face the Nets at Prudential Center. Frank tells Lawrence that it will be a homecoming and nothing ugly, in spite of the way he was unceremoniously dumped after going 0-16 two years ago.

"No hard feelings," he said. "Hey look, I was there for 10 years. I loved it there. We all move on."

Frank also talked about Bruce Ratner (who he helped teach the NBA game) and Barclays Center.

"Bruce Ratner’s persistence in making Brooklyn happen was unbelievable, because I lived through it and I know what he was going through," Frank said. "I remember it almost went down the tubes a few times. But he stayed with it, even after the economy crashed, so I’m going to be so happy for Bruce when that building opens. I know all the sweat and the hard work he put in and everything he had to go through. It’s going to be a great day for him."

I was told

that Thorn liked Favors, then Monroe, not Cousins.

didnt Thorn want to trade down for Monroe?

wasnt there at least a tentative deal with someone lower in the lottery for the nets to move down?

talent we had. How many opposing players commended Frank for calling the play the opposition was running. He was a good coach and above all a good person.

I love how people use "soft"

it’s a meaningless term used pejoratively, mostly for players.

Charles Oakley wasn’t soft. He is the epitome of not being soft. He lost every big game he was ever in.

Motivate players?

With a roster of 8 scrubs, he motivated his guys to go out and play their hearts out. He was emotional and he was committed to this franchise and for that much I respect him a great deal. If there was one thing he was good at it was getting his players motivated

Too early to tell

At GT he struggled on very fundamental things. He hasn’t come that far in a year and a half. I don’t think he’ll be capable of running the point. He does have decent defensive fundamentals though. He has a couple of things going for him.

by head_hunter on Jan 28, 2012 8:38 PM EST up reply actions

Decent defensive fundamentals or is he wild in the passing lanes? The same wildness that lets him be effective on offense and defense is exactly what makes him ineffective too.

by mytoemytoe on Jan 28, 2012 8:40 PM EST up reply actions

He has good anticipation.

He doesn’t fly out of position too often.

by head_hunter on Jan 28, 2012 8:45 PM EST up reply actions

I think that's a little too harsh to say right now

He is a rookie, playing multiple positions, and with more on his plate then he can probable handle right now.

Yeah, the East is weak.

-But, Miami, Chicago, Atlanta, Indiana, Philadelphia, Boston are all locks to make the playoffs.
-If Howard doesn’t leave Orlando they will make the playoffs.
-If Howard is traded that team will most likely make the playoffs (so we can throw in NJ/ORL)

That leaves one spot for either the team D12 leaves (Orlando) or doesn’t come to (NJ( to be fought over with NY + Cleveland.

i love the constant back and forth

i keep hearing it on NY sports radio… MSG complaining about Time Warner, and Time Warner advertising how greedy and stupid MSG is

i wonder if YES ratings are up.

"It's as sweet as it ever was, I'll tell you. Now, hopefully, we started something and we can win some more championships, but we're going to enjoy this one right now. Have a little champagne." --Julius Erving, May 12, 1976, ABA champion Nets locker room.

by Net Income on Jan 28, 2012 10:20 PM EST up reply actions

Nevermind the masses

I would be relieved if more sports radio guys watched and commented on the Nets. Joe & Evan, because of Evan, will bring the Nets up, but mostly you might have a stray caller to any other show (Mike, Steve Somers, Moose, etc.) and the host gives a loud sigh and gives the same Nets talking points—Deron, Brooks, Brook, Avery, Brooklyn, some recent ‘improbable’ win, with a few words about the ‘improbable’ sign/trade for D12. And then they move back to the Knicks. It’s very clear that most jockeys ignore the team, at least on WFAN (I don’t listen to, nor can I comment on, ESPN radio). Very sad.

I've said this before

If the Nets want to change things, they have to win. Period. Nothing else matters.

I'm not surprised

I have to say, though, that the few links to Stephen A that were sent out, I did catch them and somewhere hidden in his Knicks bullcrap, he did say a few respectful words about Deron. I hope he says more after the move, and when we’re winning.

by brother_rat on Jan 28, 2012 10:32 PM EST up reply actions

I believe the Nets ratings being up is directly related to their interest in Dwight Howard and next year’s move to Brooklyn.

Kemba Walker got his 1st career triple double against the Wiz today...

If MarShon continues out, Kemba may rob him the 3rd place in rookie ladder.
But people should overvalue, what Kemba is doing rigth now, sure he seems to have a good future, but with the bad team Bobcats have, and with all their stars injuried (Augustin, Henderson and Maggette) someone had to score and step up, because the rest of the roster is a bunch of scrubs.

So how about tonight’s match?

Well, for the first time, in a long time, I can finally say without a single doubt that the Toronto Raptors will beat the New Jersey Nets. Scratch that, the Toronto Raptors are going to manhandle the New Jersey Nets.

As of yesterday, the Toronto Raptors are seventh in the league in points allowed, and they lead the league in defensive field goal percentage allowed, a statistic that they were second to last in last season. Add that to the fact the Nets will be without Brooke Lopez and will start an injured Deron Williams and Kris Humphries, and there is just no logical way for the Dinos to lose.

and we pretty much destroyed them

Not trying to sound like a homer or anything,

but if the Magic did accept Bynum + Gasol, would Dwight actually extend there? Lakers are a game out of the playoffs, the roster would be Kobe, Dwight, and no one else, Kobe is getting pretty old, Kobe makes 22 mil per year. How is that more of an attractive situation than Brooklyn and D Wil? Cap flexibility, soon to be better superstar, build his own legacy. Maybe I’m just crazy.

by Clayton Balch on Jan 28, 2012 10:58 PM EST reply actions

I personally don’t think it’d make a whole lot of sense for Dwight. I know people will want to point back to the Lakers being on his list, but that was before the season started, things may have changed.

Such brainless idiots

Melusis last night was talking to some crazies, and while being a crazy homer himself he at least dismissed as delusional the idea the Nets would make any trade with the Knicks now, let alone anything involving Deron or Amare. But he again, he clearly sounded like he hadn’t watched any Nets basketball and got his talking points from the newspaper. The jockeys watch both Giants and Jets….and mostly Mets and Yankees…nevermind hockey (another can of worms for me, at least), is it too much for these jockeys to be caught up on the Nets also? Or, at the very least, smack down the idiotic Knicks/Nets trade banter? So frustrating.

Some teams still have their exemptions to use. Nets have neither.

I’m pretty sure Denver will match any reasonable contract offer for Chandler if it comes from a team offering exemption type money.

That may be their demands, but that's not what they will get.

Lawrence Frank is a class act.

And of course he shouldn’t have any bad feelings at the prior management. He became a multi-millionaire as a result and is still coaching (left with another bad team).

Everyone should now know that he had bad players to work with, especially during that 0-16 run.
Someone should post the lineups being use and let us judge for ourselves.

The present management has nothing to do with Frank, anyway, but the Nets fans should treat Frank nice – for a change.
