creating sports blog

Hi everyone,

I'm always reading NetsDaily but never comment - this is, of course, my favorite site for all things Nets. I'm looking to start my own sports blog. This would be more for me rather than trying to make something big of it, because it's a genuine passion and why not write about it and have something fun on the side?

My blog will focus solely on the NBA - I'm still trying to figure out a direction to go with it, I'm still in the very early stages of development but can't seem to think of a great blog name. The thing is that I want to actually purchase a domain and kind of making everything more legitimate, but I can't start any of it without a name. Does anyone have any creative ideas for a blog name? Keep in mind that I'm female and approaching my "mid-20's".

Although a die-hard Nets fan, focusing on the NBA as a whole - I'd really appreciate any help in coming up with a name for the blog, Thanks a lot!

And how about the Nets basically having the same record as the overrated Knicks?! Too soon to write us off, sports writers... ;)

THANK YOU AGAIN!

Sorry I don't quite agree if thinking of a name for the blog is your priority

You should find the style/focus of your writing first, then naturally come to a name from your writing. Like writing a research paper, you cannot name the title of your paper before you know what your thesis is going to be.

For example if your blog would have a lot of statistical analysis you could name it sportslab.com (domain on sale, but I have a feeling it may not come cheap).

Whether it be a more a warm and fuzzy blog noting the inspiration sports stories (chicken soup for the sports fans, already a book out there with the same name, but domain available), or be it is a casual story-telling blog (Coffee & Sports), they should all have distinctively different names.

Thanks for the feedback- that’s a very valid point, too. I’m trying to think of the angle I want to go with it which does, like you said, make much more sense to come up with first.

I think I will likely make it news/scores/opinion/humor, sort of tie it all together and make it very editorial.

I liked the ideas for the names too- I’m very new to it so I have a lot to familiarize myself with first but I’m hoping to get my ideas on paper so I could get moving with it sooner than later. All ideas are very much welcome! Thanks

Straightforward: Something like “sportscolumn” “(the)sportssection”? They are commonly sought after domains, but you can try something like sportscolumn.us.

Feminine: girlwritingsports.com

Others: mysportscolumn.com

Hard to suggest without knowing your readership!

Are you targeting all NBA fans, women, urban folks, a younger demographic, etc.? Will you be doing the writing for the site, or do you envision a team eventually?

Best of luck with this, starting and growing a site is no easy task.

My target is anyone who likes basketball and has a sense of humor. I expect a younger demographic would enjoy it, someone in their 20’s and over who appreciates a real basketball fan who knows her stuff.

Thanks! Once I have everything going, which may take a while, I will post here for everyone to get to- would love the feedback, positive or negative, when the time comes

"Hi Heel Sneakers" ???

That’s fantastic. I have a niece that is in her early 20’s also. She loves sports too. There is a line in an old Elvis Presley tune that says: “put on your hi-hill sneakers….” Lol, just a thought!

Who says that a woman athelete can’t be feminine also? Especially when you consider some of the most dominant WNBA players as well as women in other sports.

I have a feeling that your blog would fill a void for a lot people both male and female.
Good luck and keep us posted on your progress.

i LOVE that name! I think it’s perfect. I’m very much a girly-girl, I wear high heels and dress very girly and such but I’m also such a tomboy and love just hanging with the guys enjoying a game- so I feel like that is just the perfect name — suits me, suits what I’m going for, suits everything.

Jackpot.

You are amazing, thank you so much! Tell your niece she seems awesome, ha!
