Brooks, Humphries and Okur All Game-Time Decisions in Cleveland

Avery Johnson said at Friday morning's shootaround in Cleveland that MarShon Brooks, Kris Humphries and Mehmet Okur will all be game-time decisions for the 7:30 start against the Cavs.

Brooks is dealing with the Achilles issue that has kept him out of the last two games, but says he "feels great." Humphries missed shootaround with a stomach virus. And Okur has back spasms.

Still, they're talking about the playoffs. Why not? They've won three of the last five and are two games out of the eighth spot.

All three are starters, too, if you don’t count the two original starters (James, Lopez) that are out for the season. Some bad luck.

I haven't seen

Okra do anything better than Petro so far

Okur does everything better than Petro,

and Okur has been pretty mediocre.

I’ll take an old, slow Okur with a balky back over a completely healthy Petro any day of the week, thanks.

Petro PER - 11.96

Okur – 8.91

PER isn't everything

Okur looks bad because he isn’t making his shots. I’m pretty sure that has to do with the back problems hes having. His basketball IQ far surpasses Petro’s which instantly makes him a better player. I’m not sure but i don’t think PER averages in your experience or basketball intelligence.

Petro is one of the dumbest players I've ever seen

and hurt us with his bonehead plays.

Memo does possess a high BBIQ and helps ball movement.

Heh.

I know you’re joking, but it’s worth nothing that the Nets are a much better team with Okur off the floor. 21 points better.

by Dopeness on Jan 27, 2012 1:28 PM EST up reply actions

To add to that...

The real Net gain (see what I did there?) comes when Sheldon Williams is on the floor; rather than Okur. He’s been very productive relative to his skill-set.

At least

Okur can make some points.
He has not good board, but can make some 3s.
That’s a big different from Petro.

1 - D. Williams / J. Farmar / S. Gaines
2 - M. Brooks / A. Morrow
3 - D. Stevenson / S. Williams / D.James / L. Owens
4 - K. Humphries / S. Williams
5 - M. Okur / J. Petro / B. Lopez

Strangely, even if Okur has bricked

10 threes in a row, I’d still rather watch him hoist another long bomb than see Petro take an open midrange jumper. I think it’s a Pavlov’s dog reflex thing. I simply cringe whenever Petro takes a shot.

Can't Catch a Break

This is the last thing the Nets need coming off their most impressive win of the season. Even w/o Lopez and Brooks, I feel the Nets can win this game. And as badly as Okur has sucked, he’s still better than the other scrubs we have at center – although Shelden Williams at least gives good effort despite his obvious limitations.

Can’t win this game (or any game for that matter) w/o 3 of their top 4 players. Really need Humphries and Okur to suck it up and fight through the pain. Brooks is far too valuable to risk that achilles until he’s 100%.

Hey guys, Sorry about being off topic but had a quick question. been to prudential center about 5-7 times but with brooklyn opening next year and prices going way up, i figured this would be my last chance to afford courtside tixs for 1 game on stubhub so i bought a pair for one of the detroit midweek games. The tixs include food and non alcoholic drinks but i was curious if anyone has sat here and if the food is just things like hot dogs or if its really good food and also if you are allowed to bring food or drinks to your seat. Im in the 4th row and not the first so I was curiious about that. Thanks and hopefully swag and hump play tonight

Interesting story on ESPN about us

Could D-12/D-Will/Lopez happen?

D-12, assuming he gets to free agency, is eligible to make around $19 million in the first year of his max deal. So, the Nets would have to free up $7.1 in cap space to sign him.

The Nets could either renounce their rights to Lopez or execute a sign-and-trade — even one where the Nets and Magic sign-and-trade Howard and Lopez for each other.

Now, the Nets could also hope that Farmar and Shawne Williams decide against exercising their options and become unrestricted free agents instead. That could also work.

Or, they could deal any two of Farmar, Shawne Williams and Morrow — and perhaps throw in picks as incentive — in exchange for a future second-round pick or something of that nature in order to clear room. The Nets are allowed to go over the cap to re-sign Lopez.

So basically, the Nets CAN make the above scenario work … but it’s no easy task, and there are still a lot of unknowns (draft pick cap holds, salary cap number, cap space etc…).

Why are people under the impression that Lopez AND Dwight is a good idea?

Lopez at PF is a joke… i would rather trade him for a piece or two that compliments us more.. for example we could sign and trade Lopez to HOU for Kev Martin and Scola

To Philly for Iggy and Lou Williams

To GS for Ellis

to MIN for Beasley and Randolph

to NOL for Gordon

to POR for Batum and or Wallace

Maybe not the most realistic scenario but those are all better fits than Lopez if we get Dwight

I don't think it's a horrible idea

Lopez is more of a finesse center. So I think they compliment each other well. Besides, Brook played well with his brother Robin at 5. Dwight also had played well with Gortat at 4 and it didn’t cause much clogging issue as people worried. We do have big hole in other positions so I’d certainly do deals that you mentioned above but only if what we are getting back is well worthwhile.

i think if we had both of them...

brook lopez should come off the bench think about it he would dominate other teams bench bigs and when dwight is in foul trouble he would come in for him of course they would play together at times

i dont see how its abd idea

you would have two shot blockers on the court a majority of the time. two 7 footers worked for both the Lakers and the spurs… it would be very similar to what the lakers have now with bynum and gasol..

none of the players you name are as good as lopez (maybe ellis) why trade for an inferior talent

It could work...

Lopez as an offensive PF is not a joke. Howard can definitely guard opposing PFs.

Lopez and Dwight using the pick and roll with Deron and MarShon would be downright deadly.

The 5th player on the floor would just need to be able to knock down open shots. The other need would be a wing defenders.

Do me a favor

Stay off that Cavs site. The guy is clearly begging for Nets fans to come populate his site. Don’t give him the satisfaction.

We would never do something so unprofessional in search of page views.
