Hump: "Net Fans Have Been Great"

Kris Humphries is having a very good season. He ranks fourth in offensive rebounds, sixth in total rebounds and seventh in dunks, ahead of, in order, Andrew Bynum, Amare Stoudemire and LeBron James. He's only nine behind Blake Griffin. He's established himself as a double- double machine. Following 10 and 10 last season, he's now at 13 and 11 this one. But they still boo.

Doesn't bother Hump and in an interview with Haute Living, he gave a shout-out to Nets fans for their loyalty.

"To start off I will say people at the Prudential Center in New Jersey have been great," said Hump without prompting.

"If I go out on the road and people are booing and what not, I really don’t mind it. I love a hostile environment on the road. As long as our fans are supporting our team and me, I’m not too worried about it. Negative energy fuels me".

The good thing about Hump

is that when Brook comes back, he will even be better. Teams focusing their defense on Brook will get Hump more offensive board opportunities

None of those stats surprise me except

This one.

Seventh in dunks, ahead of, in order, Andrew Bynum, Amare Stoudemire and LeBron James

That seems wrong haha. He looks like he only gets about 2-3 dunks a game and those guys seem like they’re always dunking. Especially Lebron on fast breaks.

It helps when more people in the team actually dunk...

….gives off the impression that there is a lot of dunking going on…

In the Nets’ case, the rest of the team combine for 14 dunks, which is pretty pathetic.

Especially that elbow jumper the Sixers were daring him to take. If he gets that down, the Nets + Lopez look pretty solid.

by Accelerate on Jan 26, 2012 1:01 PM EST up reply actions

He's probably had to adjust more than anybody w/ Brook out IMO

With no Brook, no SF, and Okur sucking all around, teams are looking at ways to stop Hump more than ever b/c he’s really the only paint player we have on the roster. Teams pack the paint on the floor, leaving less opportunities for him on the glass and makes it tougher for him offensively. He’s never really had to deal with that in his career. He just needs to get that jumper down.

He’s not perfect by any means, but you got to appreciate the effort he gives every night. The dude tries and he loves playing for the NETS. Hope there is a way that he can stay with us.

You seem to be forgetting that he deosn’t have the players around him that OKC has which will affect how he is guarded, paint protection, other players not taking attention away from him, missed shots, no big man…to name a few.

Those on-court arguments have lead to a 15-3 record. Maybe they would be undefeated if he shut his mouth.

as well as

dribble the ball around for 2 minutes and then shoots it. Don’t get me wrong, in terms of actual physical skill, I think westbrook is faster and etc. but he is def NOT a better PG than Deron Williams. Plus Westbrook has OKC and that 10%FG and 2 points per game extra? Would go back down further.

I think Westbrook would do horribly on the nets.

by Dopeness on Jan 26, 2012 1:59 PM EST up reply actions

In my mind the sample size of Deron Williams poor play is too small to call it the norm, especially with Lopez out. Humphries is our most consistent player but Deron is overall more valuable

by lezosamis on Jan 26, 2012 1:50 PM EST reply actions

Rubio's passing is SO much better

than Irvings. He is not just a SLICK passer. He is a GREAT passer.

Also, Irving HAS to be the scoring leader on that team.

I’m not discounting him as a great passer- I just think offensively Irving seems to be at this point at least to be more complete. I also like Irvings size compared to Rubio…Both are alot of fun to watch-but I still would pick Irving as my franchise cornerstone over Rubio.

by lezosamis on Jan 26, 2012 2:08 PM EST up reply actions

Rubio is Jason Williams part 2

Rubio started off shooting really well but the NBA is catching up to him and he has gone down to 37.3% FG. If you take a closer look at Rubio you will see that he was lighting up backups

8 games As a Starter
12.1 PPG on 29.2% FG
9.8 APG on 3.8 TO

10 games off the bench
10.2 PPG on 46.3% FG
7.9 APG on 3.3 TO

His rebounding and steals have been great but he is regressing on offense. He is overrated and isnt even close to Irving talent wise

Hate to say I told you so........BUT

http://www.netsdaily.com/2011/3/10/2041832/hump-vs-david-lee

from that post “Unfortunately, nobody in the organization saw this coming and failed to sign him to an extension LAST summer as he would have been one of the biggest long term values in the league. My guess is that Hump commands $8m per year and is going to be a legit double-double threat at the PF positoin for the next 5-7 years (barring injury).”…..wow I was even spot on with the $8m and so far spot on with the double-double!

and this….(same post) "The talk of David West, Zach Randolph, etc makes little sense. Hump is going to provide similiar production, and is 3-4 years younger, with much less mileage on his legs at a far more reasonable contract. Plus he has become a fan favorite in NJ and wants to be here. There are much worse decisions that could be made than making Hump our PF of the future to pair with Brook and Deron – and to focus on upgrading our SF position with that money instead. " STILL HOLDS TRUE TODAY

http://www.netsdaily.com/2011/3/16/2054402/hump-as-a-rebounder
“It is not only conceivable, but highly likely, that Hump surpasses Pau Gasol for the 5th leading rebounder in the NBA this season. Whether fans want to admit this or not, Hump has become one of the most dominant rebounders in the entire league and is an essential cog in the wheel going forward. And unfortunately for the Nets, his price tag is increasing on a daily basis at this point.” He beat Pau 10.4 to 10.2 last year…this year he is currently in 7th place at 10.8 rebounds per game (better than David Lee in less minutes).

Perhaps I was a little overzealous on him averaging 13.69 rpg this year – he is about 2.5 beneath that at the moment but has had plenty of games where he has not played big minutes and with Brook out – is being doubled in the paint.

Have to say that more than half the posters here disagreed with me……..I heard everything from he steals rebounds from teammates, he puts up numbers on a bad team, he is having a lucky year, he is putting up numbers in a contract year, etc……

And I still think there are a large number of people on this board who do not understand basketball who think Hump is overrated or under value what he means to this team. Rebounding at that level is a skill very few men will possess….and that is what is a key piece to winning championships….and his offense has taken another step forward this year.

LOL.. I’m going to rec this and I recommend everyone else do so..Let’s blow up this poll with the power of the NetsDaily community and see how much we can influence this poll. Nets vs. Pacers is AT LEAST a better game than Celtics/Cavaliers, Warriors/Kings and Pistons/Knicks

dont understand why people are booing him

if you are a man booing him then you have no dignity and either:

A. are extremely whipped by your GF who thinks Kim is the modern day Aphrodite and flawless

B. Actually supports Kim’s endeavors outside of looking hot in makeup and appearing in Playboy and tune in willingly to watch her show for the storyline

C. A drunk bozo who just makes a bunch of noise

but hey if Kris feeds off it, then make sure the man eat in your city

I love it!

I love a hostile environment on the road. As long as our fans are supporting our team and me, I’m not too worried about it. Negative energy fuels me".

It's about time! Great article/post.

Love that Humphries is getting some recognition. He’s so enthusiastic, he’s one of my favorite players to watch along with Deron and MarShon and Brook. He’s also a loyal kind of guy and it would be a cryin’ shame if they didn’t sign him. He’s a complete team player and I admire the way he’s handled the boos and stays positive. I think his best years are coming up and the Nets would be wise to nab him. He also seems to bring out the best in Farmar and works well with the other guys. Go Hump!

Don't stop moving.
