Derrick Rose Returns And Bulls Pick Nets' Defense Apart

Photo

Playing on the road, on the third straight night, and against the team with the best record in the league, the Nets put up a decent effort on Monday night. But that wasn't nearly enough against the Bulls, who scored 110 points in an easy victory.

Chicago took control early and led by 16 at the half. They led by as many as 21 in the third quarter and cruised to a 15-point win. The Bulls shot 57 percent from the field, with six players in double figures. Their starting backcourt of Derrick Rose and Richard Hamilton combined for 44 points and 18 assists.

The Nets were led by Jordan Farmar, who scored 22 points on 7-for-9 shooting off the bench. Deron Williams had 16 points and 10 assists, while Anthony Morrow added 15 points.

Morrow started for MarShon Brooks, who missed the game with tendinitis in his left leg. His status for Wednesday's game in Philadelphia is uncertain. He will undergo testing Tuesday. Brooks remained hopeful, tweeting, “As for me, I seriously doubt I miss the game Wednesday vs 76ers!!”

I agree with what you said about Avery

But not what you said about Frank. Byron Scott had a great team, yes, but Franks was dealing with ownership taking the cheap route. Slowly the Nets roster was gutted in an effort to save money because the team wasn’t making any.

The title of the post is so true… the Bulls just picked apart the Nets’ defense… they execute like the freakin’ Boston Celtics… I’ve always known it was Thibodeau not Doc Rivers responsible for that…

He is a joke of a coach, you put Kiki to coach that stacked Dallas team he would coach it to 50 wins

Kiki started with a worse roster at 0-18 and he got us 12 wins…Avery started at 0 loses and got us only 24 wins with better talent…the guy cant coach period.

by RandyOreens on Jan 23, 2012 11:50 PM EST up reply actions

that means nothing

Doc Rivers had a 24 win season. Mike Fratello, whom many of you wanted, has had multiple losing seasons. Flip Saunders has been to 4 conference finals; he’s now coaching the Wizards. sometimes a good coach can do nothing with the roster handed to him.

Post Game Reactions

Positives:

Dwill played, like last night, with a fuller, more complete effort.
He was more active on D for the most part as well.
I especially liked that he reacted to no calls with a “hop off the ground and get more aggressive – attack mode, as opposed to taking the next couple plays off” – appreciated.

Shawne Williams seems to have gotten more aggressive on Defense and he appears to have the beginnings of his “shot” coming back.

The Team – overall effort despite getting doors blown off most of the game; their was still a sense of “not giving up” – appreciated

Negatives:
Okur has been relatively dreadful for awhile – Not happy with him at all.

Morrow – is abysmal. He couldn’t defend “Chair” – and he’s zero sum gain when his shot IS falling; a massive liability when it’s not.

Dwill, although a bit better as of late; is still too sloppy with his handle and some of his passes.

Avery – 13 out of 18 games where we spot the opposing team double digit leads in the first
quarter. I can’t blame Deron completely all the time – this is on Avery as much a anyone.
In any other situation, on another team, he would have been Fired long ago.

Nice analysis. I don’t think Avery Johnson is much of a coach but he’s an even worse talent evaluator based on the poor defenders he has brought into the system. Do I blame that on Billy King or Avery Johnson? Maybe a little bit of both.

by mytoemytoe on Jan 24, 2012 12:48 AM EST via mobile up reply actions

No, the roster says otherwise

we have had some really questionable starting lineups thrown out there and on most nights we don’t win any of the 4 matchups in the first quarter and Deron is giving up a 17.5 per vs getting 15 for us. Avery, however, did not bring these guys in here, King did. This is a product of the Howard pursuit and nothing else.

Happy to see Billy King graduated in an accelerated "how to make a trade" class in just one night :)

Also, I know shubee had to sort of disclaim interest in the site b/c of his job with the NBA, but maybe taking on a pseudonym allows him to continue to run the site on the side.

Farmar shooting very well 48% FG and 46% 3pt

So it should have been Farmar playing off the ball not D-Will
Avery played D-Will off the ball with Gaines at the other guard position with Farmar on the bench in a lot of games…

Another Avery Johnson FAIL!!!

"Rose, banged-up Bulls rout Nets" (our missing three starters don't count); DeShawn Stevenson is done

http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/recap?gameId=320123004

Banged-up Bulls? Rose said after the game that he felt fine. The Bulls were playing at home and missing one player—Deng.

The Nets were on the road, playing their third game in three days. The Nets are still missing their starting center, Brook Lopez, but that doesn’t seem to count anymore. The Nets also played without MarShon Brooks. Damion James is getting foot surgery later today. The Nets were without THREE STARTERS when they lost to the “banged-up Bulls.” The press stinks.
-————-
DeShawn Stevenson started again and the Nets got in a hole again. He’s done. Get rid of him. He can’t score and he can’t defend. Is his contract guaranteed?

Larry Owens, while not great, showed that he won’t hurt you and will do a little of everything. Play him 10-25 minutes, play Shawne Williams 10-25 minutes, and give the other minutes to a guard (Brooks, Morrow, Farmar) in a three-guard lineup.

Stevenson is shooting .259 fg, .277 from three, 3.1 points in 16.9 minutes, with a PER of 4.65. Bring in Ben Uzoh. Stevenson is done.

Furthermore, he stated that he had personally called ORL, and they denied any trade scenarios with the Nix. As of Knicks and Clippers being possible destinations, he said that it is included on the “big market thing” which includes Dallas, New York (that is Knicks included) and LA (Clippers included). He did not say that they were given permission to talk to D12, rather those are destinations that D12 would not mind.

We can't trade a 1st for Mayo

Most of his appeal to us is the fact that he’s an expiring contract. We can’t waste a pick on him unless we’re dumping Petro & Shawne.

If we trade for Howard first, then it’s a different situation. By trading for him at that point, we’d retain his bird rights & be able to resign him in the offseason. Even then, it doesn’t make a ton of sense unless Brooks is included in the Howard deal. If we pursue Howard in free agency, Mayo would have to be renounced, so there’s no way he’s worth giving up a first rounder.

Not to mention the nets aren’t going to make a move to have some of the worst contract in the L from the magic. Might as well let Deron walk elsewhere then take Nelson and assorted garbage. And if Howard walks to Jersey with Lopez, MarShon and 2012 pick (picks perhaps), Morrow and any other Roster moves nets can make would be an amazing supporting cast.

Please typical knicks fans/ writers. And in any case I don’t know why anyone was surprised Melo is not playing well he had a pretty darn good supporting cast in Denver and didn’t do much of anything with it excpet for one year. The only thing the guy does consistnely is score and often not in an efficient manner. Deron shooting woes or not is a better player.

I think the Lakers will get Howard.. this is my best 3 way deal

http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=7457uo7

The Lakers will be looking at an 8 seed near the trade deadline. If they dont change something, they will have big problems for years to come. Meanwhile, the Celtics will miss the playoffs

To LAL- Dwight Howard, JJ Reddick, Chris Wilcox, Chris Duhon
To Boston- Andrew Bynum
to Orlando- Pau Gasol, Paul Pierce, Laker’s #1 pick

Why Boston does it: They will have a lot of cap space.. .Bynum takes over the Perkins role. They can let KG and Allen walk and reboot

Why Lakers do it- They get much better. Get depth.

Why Orlando does it- become the Nuggets of the Eastern conference with a deep group. They still are a playoff team with this bunch…

THEN……
LAL trades Dallas’s #1 pick and their trade exception for Kris Humphries

LAL:
pg- fisher, blake, suhon
sg- kobe, reddick,
sf- barnes,
pf- humph, mcroberts, murphy
c- Howard

Not the best team in the league but a playoff team for sure

by orangeeater on Jan 24, 2012 10:45 AM EST reply actions

helps us because we get a #1 pick back for Humph

then again, if the Lakers get Howard, they would be better off with a Ryan Anderson type at the 4…. so maybe they dont trade with us

Pierce is on the downhill with a big contract as well.

Not that this would ever happen, but the Nets should trade Humphries, Morrow, Farmar and picks to get Gasol, trade Lopez for wing help and go with a Big 4 of Williams, Brooks, Gasol and Howard next season

by mytoemytoe on Jan 24, 2012 12:15 PM EST reply actions

The Lakers are going to get Howard.. that is quite obvious

The reason that they have not already is the have relented at dealing Bynum and Pau.. problem is they are not a playoff team right now. If they fail to get Howard, they will have the same team next year and the year after. The ONLY chance they have at relevance in Kobe’s final years would be to get Howard…

I really doubt we get Howard during the season. Lopez won’t be fully back from his injury so his trade value is lessened. Brooks is playing great.. but I think we are somewhat overstating his value on this forum. Our pick will be a good one.. but it is not certain to be top 5. There are a lot of bad teams.. so our pick could be top 7 (washington, Sacramento, Toronto, Charlotte, new orleans are all definitely worse)…. we can end up in the 5-9 range with GS ,Detroit, PHX)

by orangeeater on Jan 24, 2012 12:23 PM EST reply actions

by ZR on Jan 24, 2012 12:28 PM EST up reply actions

Agreed, there's nothing obvious about LA getting Howard

Orlando probably wants it but LA doesn’t want to give up both Bynum and Paul and more importantly, Howard seems hesitant at becoming Kobe’s sidekick in an aging LA team. Without an assurance he’ll re-sign with such a team, LA’s understandably balking at giving up both their starting bigs.

by stenpoint on Jan 24, 2012 12:35 PM EST up reply actions

Howard is hesitant?

There are also reports he has been less interested in NJ

But everyone here always points out his trade demand hasnt changed… i.e. he still wants the Lakers or Nets.

You cant argue the Lakers are less desirable to him but the nets are still desirable…

The lakers are balking but will cave.. We essentially gave our best offer possible and the Magic said no…

Sure we can add MarShon to the Lopez and 5 #1 picks we offered.. but I think we are levarage for LA

Howard may end up in LA

but it is far from certain.

And by multiple accounts, Howard doesn’t want to end up in LA without Gasol there as well. He will become a free agent regardless.

Dude, like you said, the ONLY way LA will get D12 is if they give up Bynum and Pau!

Will that make LA better? NO. The only advantage Lakers have is with the bigs up front.

Their PG gets abused day in-day out.
So primary reason why they wont get D12 is that they wont give up both of their bigs for him.

On the other hand, D12 does not want anything to do with Kobe and nobody else, especially if there is nobody there to give him the ball down low.

This is not Shaq and Kobe, cause Phil Jax is not there (triangle offence); D12 needs a great PG. LA is just a leverage for ORL in my opinion, and he will not go there on the scenarios that have been reported!

= means nothing!!!

Dallas on his list as well. That only means he would accept playing in such markets, however, it would have to be with the right players.

He will not play with Kobe and bunch of nobodies.

He will not play with Dirk and bunch of nobodies.

He will not play with D-Will and bunch of nobodies.

Difference, Dirk and Kobe have contracts that are “out of this world”, on the other hand D-Will’s contract would not even be close to that. Furthermore, Nets have the most flexibility, and would allow him to be the MAN. Not so much in LA and Dallas (Kobe and Dirk are living legends respectively).

One last thing. D12 would rather play with a great PG than any other great something else. Why? I thin you should know that !!!

by d2d on Jan 24, 2012 12:38 PM EST up reply actions

All we know is Dwight wants to play in any of the cities.. He would take a trade to LA Lakers or Nets...

so yes he would play with an aging Kobe. or Dirk

As a free agent, it is a different story I agree.. But if the Lakers are on his trade list, you cant say he doesnt want to go there.. it makes no sense

What we know is we offered Lopez and 5#1 picks and they said no. And that was before Lopez was hurt (I think). All we can do to improve things is add MarShon.. I dont think that is enough if the Lakers offer Pau and Bynum, which they will

by orangeeater on Jan 24, 2012 12:42 PM EST up reply actions

There is a difference of what ORL wants and what D12 wants!

I’m not saying Bynum and Pau would not do it. It probably would, but D12 would not want to be part of LA with Kobe and nobody else. Think about it, Kobe will be making mid $20 mill for the rest of his contract. That’s alot of money !!!

D12 can tell them I will opt out if traded in such a situation, and that would kill the LA deal.

He will have a big role of where he lands and around what players. Worst case scenario he will become a FA … will he lose 30mill, yes! but he can easily make that up in a market like NY (unlike D-Will – he’s not on that superstar level).

All above are opinions of course, my point is that this is not as simple as “QUITE OBVIOUS” as you make it to be.

no a realist.

Brook Lopez’s value is uncertain coming off a foot injury. What if the Magic get him and then Cleveland offers him a 4/44 deal. Maybe they would be scared to match that. Getting a RFA who tou dont have time to fully evaluate is risky

Brooks is great,, I like him a lot.. but if Lopez is the center piece of our deal.. it is not that strong of an offer. LA can and will offer more.

The Lakers pick and Dallas pick shouldnt be horrible .

Plus, if we get Howard, our pick drifts closer to 10th than 1st…

Probballdraft Probasketballdraft
The team that I’d be watching closely as a player in 2014 for LeBron James’ services are the Brooklyn Nets. Jay-Z, DWill, & D12 could do it.

DWill for Melo? In a heartbeat!

Broussard has a new column today discussing 5 potential trades that would make sense for both teams. One of the trades he mentioned is DWill for Melo, and is based upon the premise that Dwight Howard is traded to someone other than the Nets (in his scenario, DH12 and Ryan Anderson are traded to the Clippers for Blake Griffin and DeAndre Jordan).

Based upon a hypothetical scenario in which (i) the Nets are not getting Dwight Howard and (ii) as a result of not getting DH12, Deron Williams tells Billy King that he is going to leave the Nets after the season, I would trade him for Carmelo in a heartbeat.

Despite what Deron has said publicly, I would imagine he would likely re-sign with the Knicks, so it would work on their end if Deron gives assurances that he would re-sign with them after the season.

The trade would work for us for the following reasons:

1. We get an All Star level player, who (critically) would be locked up for the next 4 seasons;
2. It fills our GAPING HOLE at Small Forward;
3. If preserves our cap flexibility and we would have $18 million + to spend in the off season; and
4 Most importantly, it sends the message the “COMRADE PROKHOROV ALWAYS GETS HIS MAN” even if it takes a year to do so (LOL!)

Trading DWill for Melo would allow us to go into Brooklyn with Melo, Brook Lopez, MarShon Brooks, a great draft pick or two (go Houston!) in a fairly deep draft, and a lot of cap space to sign free agents, or trade for more talent (a PG such as Rajon Rondo if Danny Ainge decides to blow things up in Boston?).

Clearly Dwight + Deron is Plan A, but trading Deron for Melo might be a pretty good Plan B

Melo is great shooter but...

He is god awful on defense and kills every play with his iso. But hey if deron is guaranteed to leave I’d still take melo. Wouldn’t that be a slap to his face haha

LOL ESPN
Derrick Rose, Richard Hamilton lead banged-up Bulls past Nets
A look at the list of injured might suggest the Bulls are falling apart. Their comprehensive victory implies just the opposite — that Chicago is once again building a championship-caliber team.

Yep, this Nets game was a real test for them. They answered the call!!!
