Nets Pick Up Easy Win Over Bobcats

Despite the temperature and shooting background at the Prudential Center, Deron Williams and the Nets picked up their second home win of the season on Sunday, beating the Bobcats 97-87.

The Nets took control with a 9-0 run midway through the first quarter and led by 16 at the half. They went cold in the third quarter and allowed the Bobcats to creep within seven, but they quickly opened the game back up and led by as many as 19 in the fourth before holding on for a 10-point victory.

The Nets shot just 44 percent from the field, but were 14-for-15 from the line and outrebounded the Bobcats 47-34.

MarShon Brooks led the Nets with 20 points on 9-for-17 shooting. Williams scored 11 points in the first quarter and finished with 19 points, nine rebounds and 10 assists, one rebound shy of his first career triple-double. Anthony Morrow (19 points) and Jordan Farmar (13) each had big games off the bench.

by aug93 on Jan 22, 2012 8:29 PM EST reply actions

That's because he played more PG today

Nets still need to stop with the Williams bring ball up, pass it, run a screen to receive the ball then set up the offense. You can’t run that play up the court every possession!

Avery didn’t make himself look to smart taking Deron out then putting him back in.

MarShon has to lurn to play with the offense a little more, that and pick up fouls , should of had 30 tonight.

I know people don't like Farmar all that much

but he gives this team some scoring+ spotty PG duties off the bench. Not to mention he was with this team all last year. This team is full of brand new players, the last thing we need is to get rid of a player who has played with Hump+Deron.

One of our main problems is chemistry, and trading Farmar for a brand new player will just make our chemistry even worse.

(I know, Farmar turns into a black hole sometimes which isn’t exactly chemistry, but I hope you understand what I’m saying)

If Farmar consistently plays well like he did today

I prefer him. But the problem is his scoring isn’t consistent enough, and he still is a pretty bad playmaker (although I’ve seen him make better passes this season). He still ignores his teammates in good positions too often, and its obvious that him and Marshon don’t get along well on the court.

possibly Larry Owens also, because of the 3 games effect

by bkfire on Jan 22, 2012 8:44 PM EST reply actions

I can't help but think that we will be a legit team with Brook back

Assuming Brook recovers well, and doesn’t take much time to find his form. Deron is an excellent passer to a low post scorer, so that alone makes a massive difference. But then you also look at Marshon’s ability to drop off great passes to the bigs, by drawing defenders. Then consider the fact that in the past Brook Lopez has been double/triple teamed regularly, and you have an offensive team, that on paper will give a lot of problems to other teams. How will teams deal with Deron, Marshon, and Brook at the same time?

by DarkXaero on Jan 22, 2012 8:45 PM EST reply actions

I agree

by lemmetakeutodamovies on Jan 22, 2012 8:47 PM EST up reply actions

Yea, I agree

As much as people like to hate on Damion James here, I think he would actually be a good fit on that lineup. His lack of offensive skills won’t matter much because he would already have 3 scorers next to him, which would give him no real defensive focus. But DJ is pretty much done for the season, so you can forget about that. So I think Stevenson/Shawne Williams will have to do, or you can put Marshon at SF. If Stevenson was an inch or two taller, I would have no problems with him playing SF because he’s an excellent on man defender, and a decent perimeter passer.

yes, of course he's going to get better, he's going to be at least a 20 ppg player...

But usually or always the elite scorers have elite speed and athleticism, Brooks doesn’t has it, but he has a high BBIQ, something that not all the elite scorers have.

The veteran forward said he wasn’t even sure how the injury occurred.

“It’s a sprain of his left wrist,” Thibodeau said. “He is day to day. I took him out at the end because he said he needed a break and he went back to have his wrist checked.”

One is the official number, which is public, and it is tickets sold or given away. The other is the turnstile number which is the actual number who show up and that is NOT a public number.

I had two season tickets for tonight, but decided not to go. I am counted in the first number, not in the second.

TWill over Henderson

Another great job, old f@rt!

Seriously, that retiree ruined our team with his “draft skills”. My heart aches.

by Belarus4life on Jan 22, 2012 9:40 PM EST reply actions

Well, you think it's that easy, to draft players, drafting players in the middle of thee 1st round is the thoughest job in a draft.

Everyone can see TWill has a tremendous potential, but I guess he lacks of BBIQ.

And you are saying that now… Henderson was in Charlotte doghouse, until they hired a new coach last season, that motivated him and gave him confidence.

It takes a lot of factors to players pan out. In different situations some guys get better and other get stuck.

Come on now

You think I’d criticize him for that mishap if wasn’t his like 237 bust draft pick?

We’re talking about: Zoran, Milic, Wright, Marcus Williams, Boone, Sean Williams, Terrence Williams, D. James. There are plenty of quality players who thrive in NBA today and even All Stars. Had he picked Bayless over Lopez it would be pinnacle of his miserable drafting history.

OT: Playoff Spots

I was looking at the Eastern Conference playoff standings and something stood out to me, I wonder if any of you guys see the same thing. Is it just me or is there really only potential for Milwaukee to move out of a playoff spot out of the teams currently 1-8? Obviously if Dwight leaves Orlando could fall, but depending on what pieces are sent to ORL they may hang on to a playoff spot. Current playoff teams in order are Chicago, Orlando, Indiana, Philly, Atlanta, Miami, Milwaukee, Boston. The first 6 are pretty much a lock to me(*ORL), Boston most likely makes a push and locks up a spot. That leaves teams like New York, New Jersey, and Milwaukee fighting for the final spot. If Boston doesnt wake up then add them to the list and that makes 4 teams fighting for 2 spots. Just thought that was interesting…

they have just beaten the Lakers and are now 11-4, without any real star.

The Pacers have 7 players scoring in double figures this season: Collison, Hill, George, Granger, West, Hansbrough and Hibbert, Amazing!

I think you guys might have a shot at the 8th seed, but its tough

The Bulls, Heat, Magic, and Hawks are locks. The Pacers, Knicks, and Celtics are almost definitely going to make it as well. I think its between the Nets and Bucks for the 8th spot.

by Dylan87 on Jan 23, 2012 12:38 AM EST up reply actions

wow can't believe I forgot the Sixers!

Then it will be a little more difficult for the Nets

by Dylan87 on Jan 23, 2012 12:49 AM EST up reply actions

We aren't missing the playoffs

STAT and Melo have both played horribly, B. Davis is coming back next week, and Fields is just starting to play well offensively. Not sure if we can do any damage when we get there, but a team with Melo/STAT is going to find a way to win enough games in the regular season

by Dylan87 on Jan 23, 2012 12:53 AM EST up reply actions

yeah they'll get in even with a losing record

Eastern conference blows.

Yeah the East is really week this year

Lucky for the Knicks, because if they were in the West, they might be in a huge whole before they finally turn it around.

by Dylan87 on Jan 23, 2012 1:01 AM EST up reply actions

Yeah thats your best shot

Obviously I am biased, but I would be shocked if the Knicks missed the playoffs. We might not be an elite team, but we should make the playoffs pretty easily once everybody is healthy, and Melo/STAT start playing well.

by Dylan87 on Jan 23, 2012 12:51 AM EST up reply actions

basically right now the top 6 teams are locked in barring a catastrophic free-fall or some type of 10+ game win streak from a bottom team

the last two are wide open as the 7th and 13th seed are separated by 3 games right now

I really don't know who to compare, but he can play SG and SF,

he’s big and fast for his size, finishes good around the rim and can shoot the 3 well. he’s a scorer, I like him of the bench

2012 Lineup: D-Will - Brooks - AK47 - Lopez - D12... Book it!

ND has always had these rules. It’s not that losing is getting to the moderators. It’s getting to the members saying things out of line. ND is one of the best out there, I don’t think they have to change much about how this site is run.

Just watched on DVR.

My thoughts:

  • That Bobcat team that was on the floor was absolutely horrendous. I know they had a couple of injuries, but that team that we faced is utter garbage.
  • Nets played pretty bad in the 2nd half. It was pretty embarrassing that the Bobcats got back into it, b/c the Nets had to play like hot garbage to let that garbage team outplay them.
  • The game was pretty boring
  • DWill seemed to be playing pretty much the same way he has been, w/ a few nice passes thrown in; overall, I still find myself disappointed by his lack of penetration & especially his inability to create a shot for himself or a teammate when he does penetrate. He does at times, and it looks great, but too often he gets nothing out of it & he’s still taking too many jumpers when they aren’t falling. This is especially troubling when he launches 3 pointers during crunch time.
  • Despite picking it up in the 4th & carrying them for a stretch, MarShon didn’t have a really good game. It was all right, & he did abuse Kemba & whoever else defended him in the post a few times, but he’s been better. Even so, not playing great, he was still great, if that makes any sense?
  • No one else really stood out; everyone else pretty much looked the same on the Nets
  • The Bobcats might be the least talented team in the league; I am unsure how they even have 2 wins.

You forgot the fact, their best player got injuried at the beginnig

DJ Augustin has been by far Charlotte’s best player

2012 Lineup: D-Will - Brooks - AK47 - Lopez - D12... Book it!

by Heavinsent on Jan 23, 2012 12:44 AM EST up reply actions

I mentioned that they had a couple injuries.

I know DJ playing would have helped them a lot. But even DJ isn’t that talented of a player. Ideally, he’s not a starter, but a good sixth man.

But that version of the Bobcats (w/out DJ, w/out Magette) is just horrible.

by CurlyBeast on Jan 23, 2012 12:47 AM EST up reply actions

Also forgot to mention:
  • Bobcats are a terrible shooting team. They couldn’t hit anything when the Nets went zone. It was eerie, b/c usually it’s the Nets clanging shots. It was almost surreal watching it happen against the Nets and not to them.

by CurlyBeast on Jan 23, 2012 12:49 AM EST up reply actions

Just watched the game go Nets!!

Marshon said Deron sparked the team by scoring like a leader should after the game.

Love that swag.

our defense has been better

-we should have won last night if anyone of our team made their shots we could have won
-this game i m not shocked we won they suck
-marrow needs to keep on making the open looks he getss even tonight i saw him miss some open shots i expect him to be automatic.
- marshon and deron both played well tonight but i feel like marshon has stopped driving in as much and is not getting fouled samething deron needs to drive in more
-farmar is the best back up pg in the league i believe and could be a decent starter on another team the only problem with him i have noticed is that he doesnt pass marshon whats so ever i think he is jelly lol
-humpphriees is doing greattt we need more ally dunks froom williams to him
-we need lopez badly :( when is he coming backk?

Nyk 7 most at home

it will catch up with them Later ON….

The Nets will improve that's for sure, with more time together and especially the return of Lopez, will make us look much better.

But I don’t know if I want Lopez to return fast, I’m really starting to get used to the idea of getting M-KG in the draft.

2012 Lineup: D-Will - Brooks - AK47 - Lopez - D12... Book it!

by Heavinsent on Jan 23, 2012 1:07 AM EST up reply actions

Not really true

Amar’e is averaging 17 points per game. He averaged 25 per game last year.

Douglas is shooting 32% from the floor.

Fields is shooting 20% from 3-point range

Melo’s wrist is injured

B. Davis is joining the team in a week.

The Knicks still have the room exception which they can use on a player from China.

There is a lot of room for improvement imo.

"Room exception to use on a player from China"

How much is that room?

2012 Lineup: D-Will - Brooks - AK47 - Lopez - D12... Book it!

by Heavinsent on Jan 23, 2012 1:12 AM EST up reply actions

2.5 mil per for a max of two years

Enough to sign K-Mart, or maybe rent a player like JR Smith for the rest of the year.

by Dylan87 on Jan 23, 2012 1:14 AM EST up reply actions

we did want it for Shawne

But we ended up signing Baron for a minimum contract instead of the room exception. He is already making a ton of money from Cleveland, so he agreed to take a little less from the Knicks.

by Dylan87 on Jan 23, 2012 1:18 AM EST up reply actions

ah ok, I thougth I have read the Knicks used it on Baron...lucky you

Martin is a good fit, but his heart is a Net, I don’t think he will sign with the Knicks.
And JR has a great talent, but NY would be the last team in the League where I would put him playing, one more locker room headcase and another ball hog. The Knicks won’t win a thing, if they continue to stockpile players like these.

2012 Lineup: D-Will - Brooks - AK47 - Lopez - D12... Book it!
