Deron Williams Doesn't Like The Prudential Center

After Saturday's loss to the Thunder dropped the Nets to 1-5 at the Prudential Center, Deron Williams made it clear that he's not too fond of the Nets' home arena.

"I don't like this arena one bit," Williams said. "It’s a good thing it’s not our arena next year."

Williams' primary issue is the Rock's shooting background. "Even last year, it just doesn’t feel like our home arena," he said. "I don’t know why. ...It just doesn't have good vision."

Anthony Morrow feels the same way. "The background is way different," Morrow told Stefan Bondy. "It’s cold. The background is way different. It’s like six miles back."

neither does the organization we r out of jersey after this year. he’s not leaving the team bcuz of the arena as next year the arena is done.

he also calls barclays “our arena”

its bc majority of the fans at cheer for the opposing team.

Id feel the same way. Especially when the knicks come. Its mre of a knick homegame than nets.

Can't get mad at either comment.

At least they didnt blatantly say “the fan support is bad”, which is another factor of course in their distaste for The Rock.

I think it's fine.

actually

He is probably being nice…the lack of fan support is probably a huge issue for him, as it has been for many former Nets like JKidd. Still, Brooklyn should be a different story entirely.

i was at the game tonight section 6

I mean there were OKC fans defintely, but a lot of nets fans and the arena was pretty packed. I wouldn’t say sell out but at least 15,000 fans maybe?

Trust me, we would’ve cheered a lot more but there was nothing to cheer for.

We shot 30% FG as a team and 13% from 3 point land with a lot of turnovers and bad passes (Dwill and Farmar and Humprhies). The execution tonight on plays was horrendous…we did NOT look like a real NBA team. Did you realize that OKC didn’t even play well??? Durant was quite for the entire 2nd half, it was only Westbrook and the rest of the bench on OKC that was hurting us.

If we played even half as well as we did against PHX or other teams we would’ve won this game. OKC only scored 86 points and our defense was HORRIBLE tonight, if we only made our shots we could’ve won this game…..

look

I love the Nets, but that crowd didn’t cheer much when JKidd, Carter or RJ were there…except the playoffs, it has been known as a very quiet and ahem “late arriving” crowd for years.

oh yeah everyones deeper then the nets thats not up for debate, nets are prolly the worst team in the league, and its only a matter of time before washington has a better record then them

but im not comparing the bulls to the nets, im comparing rose to the rest of those superstars mentioned and proving that he does in fact take over games by himself and is the leader of that team and is the only reason that team isnt lost offensively is the plays he makes when they need him most.

It’s hard for anyone to get behind this team, location has nothing to do with it. The Nets are still recovering from the 12-70 season and D Will aside the Nets have not made any head way in trying to improve themselves on the floor. Remember that it wasn’t too long ago that Yormark ran a marketing campaign giving away jerseys for the teams the Nets were playing. What’s that tell you. Why are we surprised, that when we go to home games there are more fans for the other team than ours, when it was only 5 years ago that even though the crowds where small, fans were ours.

by brooklynGRIDDY on Jan 22, 2012 12:06 AM EST up reply actions

I agree with what your saying

But the nets are not bringing it when they play at home. Games get boring and the fans remain quiet the whole game. Ive seen games where the nets were playing great ball and the fans were great. Look at knicks fans they boo their team lol
Todays game had a big croud but it was a rather boring game while the nets were down 10 the whole time. Nets need to make huge runs and show some highlight to get the croud going.

by Bknyets12 on Jan 21, 2012 11:55 PM EST up reply actions

yeah and thats knicks problem

u think that boo’ing is helping their players? they make the issues WORSE! thats why there is always changes. thats why msg is a home court for other players bc the fans as delusional as they are about their team, they bail out on their team. nobody wants to hear thousands of boo’s from their home crowd. they think theyre proving a point by boo’ing? they make it worse for melo bc the honeymoon is over. and i enjoy every bit of it

So it’s the fans fault, These clowns shot 31% 3/23 from 3 and they can’t make an OPEN shot, so it’s the fans and the arena correct?

Anyone see "Hoosiers"?

Remember at the end when Gene Hackman had the team measure the height from the rim to the floor and it was ten feet. Guess what? It’s ten feet in every NBA arena. I’m still a fan of D-Will and probably will be even if he left, BUT the whining can be a bit overbearing.

You know what solves everything though? Winning. I think when Bropez comes back and with the schedule getting relatively easier, the Nets will start actually winning a bit more consistently.

The Knicks' problem...

… is that they have two of the best finishers in the league, but no facilitator. Plus Melo and STAT basically work in the same space. And at the lead guard position, the answer isn’t Shump and it sure as heck won’t be B-Diddy.

by dudeabides on Jan 22, 2012 12:04 AM EST up reply actions

Howard and Deron is not Amare and Melo

Howard is the 2nd most dominant player in the game and transforms a defense. Amare and Melo are ball stoppers and chuckers who don’t know what defense is.

Kings? I've seen that place empty and dead recently

When your team is being destroyed by 20 every home game it hard to cheer. The arena basically explodes when MarShon does something good. He’s what Net fans are excited about. Either way he was talking about the structure of the building not the fans so we are beating a dead horse

Yup

The Nets are just now about eight weeks away from the trade deadline and five months away from free agency. In the meantime, they continue to bide their time by losing.

The Nets, who dropped another Saturday to the Thunder, 84-74, remain confident they’ll land Dwight Howard to open the Barclays Center doors because, among other reasons, they represent the best chance for Howard and Deron Williams to sign maximum deals and realize their collective aspiration of playing together.

The Mavericks, who have cleared cap space to reportedly make a run at this year’s top free agents, including Williams, would have to do some serious — perhaps impossible — maneuvering to fit both Williams and Howard under the cap.

A league source said the Nets are not shopping Williams, and refuted an ESPN report that Williams has designated three locations – Knicks, Mavericks and Lakers – where he’d like to be traded if he decides not to re-sign with the Nets.

Williams, a longtime opponent of sourced reporting, was also skeptical of the ESPN story.

"Did you hear it from me? We don’t need to talk about it then," he said. "Another one of these sources. Sources. I don’t know who sources are."

Pressed further about his reported list of preferred teams, Williams said, "We play Oklahoma City (Saturday night), right? We’ve got Russell Westbrook (Saturday night), Kevin Durant and Co.?"

Notice how many OKC fans were in the house tonight?

I doubt those are life long fans or Oklahoma natives, which proves my idea that it isn’t that hard to win over Knicks fans, b/c so many NBA fans are frontrunners. All we need is the talent and names and the fans will come

by SovietBrooklyn on Jan 22, 2012 12:40 AM EST reply actions

NJ doesn't support the Nets

Bet those OKC fans are from NJ but wouldn’t think of supporting the team. That’s why the team has to go to Brooklyn.

this

i actually might agree with. this isn’t utah where all you have are utah fans. this is the tri state area my man. you have many different sports fans with the devils, rangers, mets, yankees, giants, jets, and not even mentioning the philly teams and boston teams. you need to perform well and get wins for fans to really support long term.

the home games this season has mostly been packed, just very little to cheer for. if deron williams wants to go to the knicks and think this is bad, wait till the fans at the garden boo him off the court.

Deron needs to realize this isn't the area to lash out like this.

This isn’t Utah anymore this is the New York Area where everything is magnified. I was really excited for this guy but he is really dissapointing on the court thus far. The guy needs to show some toughness and leadership right now not show guys like Morrow its ok to make excuses. Deron just really needs to shut up and play his game. He is good enough to help this team win some games he is just cheating himself. Be a man and step up when times are tough basic life lesson.

done speculating on who’s doing what or who’s going where because I am not in position to find out anything important before something big happens. whatever happens happens. Dont know one current player besides Lebron that could carry this roster. Doubt if Dwight decides to go the KG route and instead take the 4 year deal until he is 30 then a 5 year one and put himself in a better position to win.

Melo screwed up by wanting his money. Dwight and Deron know that if he comes via free agency then they can be instant contenders for years

by mytoemytoe on Jan 22, 2012 1:11 AM EST via mobile reply actions

If I want to be like Broussard, I could say DWill says he'll be playing in Brooklyn next year:
Williams said. “It’s a good thing it’s not our arena next year.”

Did any one else notice the positive take about Brooklyn?

Imagine similar remarks from possibly DWill’s agent about other teams and you have the making of a deceptive ESPN headline story.

by jerry25 on Jan 22, 2012 1:30 AM EST reply actions

Good enough for me Jerry, although it doesn't take much for me to stay positive!

If Deron helps us get Dwight, we will all kiss the ground he walks on and not treat him like he is evil!

That being said, PLEASE PLAY LIKE A STAR DERON!!!!!

by dbnet on Jan 22, 2012 1:40 AM EST up reply actions

A league source has denied the Broussard story and also verifies that there have been NO DWill trade discussions according to Bondy.

Bondy has also said (in a tweet) that he doubts DWill is Broussard’s source.
If Stein and Broussard ‘s source is his agent, it has much less significance. Agents are supposed to be looking out for all possibilities. If Lopez ends up like DJames, I wouldn’t blame DWill’s agent for looking around.

by jerry25 on Jan 22, 2012 7:14 AM EST up reply actions

It was there in Bondy's OKC wrap up at 11 PM last night, but removed at his 2 AM revision.

Andres first posted tweet last night, that some of us verified in the story:

Andres B
a league source refutes broussard’s report abt DWills list as per bondy nydailynews.com/sports/basketb…
8 hours ago via web

Also Bondy replied to me about whether DWill is the source of Broussard:

@NYDNInterNets Stefan Bondy
@
@jerry25a I do not believe he is the direct source.

Apparently Bondy investigated further.

Maybe Bondy will have a separate story today.

As in the arena that he and his team will be playing in next year. Deron knows the big picture is still what matters. I don’t know about you guys, but I get pumped every time he talks about Brooklyn. Gives us some hope.

crazy idea?

so I have a crazy idea which might work. Miami is 7-0 without Wade. They don’t really need both Lebron and Wade on that team to succeed. But they would love a good PG so we trade Deron Williams and Morrow and get Wade. We keep Lopez and Brooks and move Brooks to the 3. So our lineup would be

Lopez
Hump
Brooks
Wade
Farmar? maybe draft a solid PG this year or trade for a PG?

by BkNetsfan on Jan 22, 2012 1:45 AM EST up reply actions

maybe

I hear what you guys are saying, trust me, its a crazy thought. But let’s think outside the box for a second. Say Dwight doesn’t leave or goes somewhere else. And the only thing keeping Miami from winning is a good PG. Who would you trade? Lebron or Wade. Wade is getting older so keep Lebron and trade Wade. We give them the PG they want in Deron and we get Wade. Wade plays the 2 and helps develop Brooks at the same time. we contact celtics and give them picks and farmar and get Rondo. It would be a beast of a team

I love sports so much that I have an MD in Sports

by xvinmastax on Jan 22, 2012 1:51 AM EST up reply actions

or

or we somehow pry away Lebron from that team and put him at the 3 and keep brooks at the 2. but I don’t see Miami trading Lebron as easy as Wade even though it is “Wade’s team”

I’ve heard about players complaining about a rigid (“hard”) rim, but never about the site lines, especially from the Home team.

Good thing that DWill is enthusiastic about moving to Brooklyn (LOL). Was that a Slip on his part?
I’ll accept his complaints, as long as he commits to Brooklyn, after hearing the negative story from Broussard.

If Billy King knows that DWill will be in Brooklyn, even if Nets don’t get Dwight, then BK might plan more long term in his basketball moves.

Usually I’m on board with you S.N.F. but this is the best player on the Nets saying “don’t come to watch us at home because the arena sucks.”

And all he’s doing is making excuses for his poor play. Maybe the sight lines aren’t that great but the Nets shot a better percentage at home last year than they did on the road.

Maybe the Nets could stay in a game if D-Will didn’t sling the ball across the court like he slung his towel at a fan after the game was over.

Cause for us all to chill-out
c. Between now and the March 15 trade deadline, don’t discount the possibility that Howard tells the Magic to forget his trade demand. If he’s going to sign with the Nets as a free agent, he can do it without them having to trade every asset except for Williams to get him. For now, the Magic are playing tough-minded winning basketball on the road. Everyone expected them to dissolve into the dysfunction that comes out of these trade demands, but it hasn’t happened. Van Gundy is too good, the roster is comprised of too many mature, competent pros. No one saw this coming, and that probably includes Howard himself.

Suck it up

I don’t like my commute and I only make a fraction of what you make. Background’s bad on the roads, man. My signalling is off.

It's time to discuss Dwill trade scenarios

His wish list include nets plus Knicks, mavs n lakers. Who works out best for nets? I don’t see either Knicks mavs or lakers have good assets. What bout magic? Can we anything back from them?

by NetsYankee on Jan 22, 2012 9:19 AM EST reply actions

now i know why utah got rid of this guy

the background is the same for both teams so the nets should be more used to it and have an advantage. waah! this guys is really hard to root for – i won’t be sad if he goes. he’s also not as good as advertised, i’m not sold that he deserves max money (although i’m sure he’ll get it somewhere)

True

DWill is no where close to J Kidd. He is not a leader.

The most impotant question is..

Will Barclays be a better environment for shooters?

Because while everyone on here is ragging on DWILL for complaining, the Nets do play better on the road so there might be something to it.

Hopefully Barclays will be “friendlier” and we dont end up like the Mets having to do the equivalent of moving in the fences.

fun facts

in the last 20 years:

Nets have been in the bottom 5 of attendance for 14/20 years. The highest they ever were was 12th. 12/27 in 93,94 12/29 in 97. in the bottom 5 from 2000-2004 except for 2002 when they were 23rd/29

Nets have had two top ten offenses and three bottom ten defenses

ONE YEAR HAS THE NETS OFFENSE PLAYED BETTER AT HOME THAN ON THE ROAD

oh and a bonus: Anthony Morrow shoots about 47% 3 pointers on the road, about 44% at Oracle Arena and at Prudential? He’s shooting 37% on threes.

but lets just harp on Deron for being honest. Sure is funny when he’s shooting down trade rumors or being snark with reporters to dispel the rumors. But say something true that is negative about the team and then its GTFO and trade him for Mo Williams

people need to relax. You’ve been through worst and i’m at the point where I’m waiting for Lopez and then waiting for the trade deadline then waiting for free agency to see what happens. Speculation only raises my blood pressure to unwarrantable levels

The most important part of this story!!!

“I don’t like this arena one bit,” Williams said. “It’s a good thing it’s not our arena next year.”

He said, “It’s a good thing it’s not OUR arena next year.”

He’s coming back. This year was going to be an 8th seed at best. Proky said it. Contend for the playoffs in one year (without Lopez we’re still in the hunt, despite the awful start). Contend for a championship within 5 years. Maybe I’m reading too much into it, but it would seem that the most volatile and important piece to that puzzle is still on board with us.
