Trade MarShon for Dwight?
Should the Nets include MarShon in a deal for Dwight?
Lets go back in time for a couple months, to the begining of the season. Orlando tells the Nets "we want to wait until Brooks is elgible to be included in this trade." I think without a doubt Billy says "done" Why not? At this point all Brooks is, is an unproven rookie. So you do it, no questions asked.
Lets move up a little bit to today. If Orlando says "okay Billy we are ready, we want MarShon too." I think Billy this time takes a minute to think about it then says "Done". Why not? He looks like he is going to be special but hey he still only has like 15 games under his belt, you have to make the deal.
Lets Fast forward now to after the all-star break and before the trade deadline (which is when most experts believe a trade for dwight will happen, if one indeed happens.) Same conversation, Magic "we're ready, we want MarShon too". Now what does Billy do? Say sure no problem? I'm not so sure.
Lets take a quick look at MarShons numbers. As of right now hes avg, the 8th most points per game and second highest in FG% among all SG. Yes you read that right among ALL SG not just rookies but all SGs in the NBA. Oh and while we are on the subject he is also 5th in rebounding among all SGs. Those are some very special numbers. If those numbers continue to be same by the time March comes around can we really aford to include him? Are we really going to trade a top 5 center in the NBA (lopez) a top 5 SG in the NBA (Brooks if his numbers stay the same) and draft pick in a loaded draft, for Dwight Howard? Am I missing something here? Yes Dwight is a beast, one of the best players on the planet right now, but is he really worth all that? Look what happened to the Knicks after trading half thier team for Carmelo (and truth be told what we would be giving up for Dwight would be more)
I just don't see it, if they want the Nets to include MarShon then we should keep our draft pick at least. I know Dwight Howard is Dwight Howard but sometimes when you want something bad enough its value keeps going up in your eyes. You all realize that at age 26 he has never avg more than 22 pts a game right? I'm not saying don't get dwight of course go after dwight, he is a monster but beware the price.
a top 5 SG, a top 5 Center, a pick in a loaded draft for a player who avg 18 ppg, 12.9 reb, and 2.2 blocks? If his name wasn't Dwight would he really be worth all that?

Although you could look at it as
MarShon (who is my favorite NBA player already), Lopez and our 1st rounder for Dwight and DWill.

as much as everybody thinks so keeping Deron is completly dependent on getting Dwight
sure it would make it a piece of cake if we do get dwight but as long as BK improves the team i don’t think Deron is going to just leave 30 Mil on the table, unlike Dwight this is probably his last big contract.
we can't say deron wouldnt leave 30 mill on the table
and then turn around and say dwight would
and Deron is 2 years older than Dwight

still, the money is either a factor for both or neither
it may be a smaller factor for dwight, but it’s still a factor
MarShon a top 5 Shooting Guard?
slow your roll..

Thats the whole point of my original post
If MarShon is still putting up these numbers in March…then you really have to think about it

Agreed here.
No way is MarShon going to become a top 5 SG in the NBA in his rookie season. Wade, Kobe, Monta, Gordon, Joe Johnson, and Ray Allen are all easily better.

I doubt he means in his rookie season
I think he means eventually

I think you all don't realize how good MarShon is playing
Granted its early, but if you take out the 2 games he played less than 20 minutes hes avg. 17.14 pts. and 4.85 reb. good enough for 5th among all SGs and .474 fg% good enough for 2nd among all SGs. Yes its early but if hes still putting up those numbers in March..well believe it or not The Nets have a top 5 SG on thier hands…

here is my equation to this
Marshon\Lopez<Deron\Howard
I think if Dwight's watching ESPN
… he’ll realize he wants MarShon in NJ not ORL!
Dwight is doing too good to trade.
The Magic are 3rd in their conference and are even doing better than the Heat, and right now , they look like a team with a chance to go far in the playoffs. I feel the Magic won’t trade him if they are still in this position by the middle of March. This is good for the Nets b/c they could sign D-12 and surround him with a great team , including Marshon and maybe Lopez.
A game isn't about how you play, its about winning, unless you root for a bad team.
MarShon = Untouchable!
Point, Blank, Period.
MarShon has galvanized the Nets fanbase in a way I have not seen since Jason Kidd. Personally, the last Nets player other than Kidd that I truly loved watching was Drazen Petrovic and he wasn’t even drafted by the Nets. MarShon AKA Swag is our future!
MarShon to the Magic isn’t a dealbreaker, it’s absolutely reckless. Dwight comes as a Free Agent or he can go wherever the heck he wants to go and he can take D-Will with him.
We still got Swag, Brook Lopez and Draft Picks; we’ll be aight!
J-Kidd to D-Will
that's ridiculous....I love
Marshon……but any combination of Lopez, Marshon, picks…etc….etc….still is not as valuable as DWil adn Howard…..sorry, if the Magic insist on that you do that trade in a nanosecond…..without a second thought……I love Marshon, but he’s a rookie, putting up stats on a lousy team…and yeah, he looks like the real deal , but he’s still not Dwight Howard….or DWil……in a perfect world, Howard comes as a FA, and we get the best of both worlds….which is still how I expect it to play out…..even if Howard is traded to teh Lakers….I still think he signs with us…
+1
femdig is right. i hate this whoring ourselves to these players. I want to be good but if a player does not want to be here, let him leave. We are all kissing dwill’s ass and he isn’t even playing well. If we can get dwight fine, but if not let Dwill leave. It’s clear to me he isn’t a franchise player anyway. he can only flourish when he has a bunch of talent around him.
oh my god this is so wrong
dwight and dwill + whoever they attract >>>>>>>>>> brooks and lopez and i love marshon and brook
we still got Devin Harris, Brook Lopez, and Draft Picks; we'll be aight!
howd this work out last time
for the 10000 time. just because Dwight doesn't come it doesn't mean that Deron will leave!
as long as BK improves the team and they look competitive hes going to stay…
I agree
Everyone has been saying it’s dwight or bust. Deron has never said that he simply said to improve the roster. If Dwight says no to the Nets Deron will know that we did everything in our power to get him here. And if we pick up another all-star somehow and are able to hold on to both Brooks and Brook then i think he will see that we are a young team headed in the right direction. I honestly dont see Deron leaving unless Billy King completely comes up empty this offseason and i have faith that Billy will get something done.

go talk to some knicks fans who were all for trading the whole team for Carmelo
see how they feel now about doing that….
MarShon is going to be included in the Dwight trade ...
because the Marketing side of the Nets would never allow the Dwight trade to fall through because of MarShon. Getting Dwight means significantly higher $$$ in revenue next year.
Personally, I would rather call their bluff and keep MarShon. DWill is not going to walk (for all of the previously mentioned reasons). Even without a Dwight in-season trade the Nets future is looking pretty good.
it depends on what the lakers or whoever are offering
Billy king isn’t a fool. He’s not going to just give him up when you have lopez and a lottery pick presumably included
I would include our draft pick instead of Marshon
Why? Because if we get Dwight, we’ll win a lot more games and probably even make the playoffs. Where does that place our draft pick now?
nope
lopez, marshon and the draft pick are all going to orlando and howard is only going to be a net after the all-star game. so it will be a little to late to make the playoff unless the knicks and celtics continue to struggle.. one of the reason the magic will not trade howard this early bcoz they want the draft pick to be as high as possible..
