Shawne Williams: I Need Surgery

Photo

On the first day of practice and fresh off signing a $6.15 million, two year deal, Shawne Williams hurt his ankle and by over compensating to ease the pain is now in a situation where he knows he won't ever be 100 per cent this season. In fact he may have to undergo surgery in mid-season.

"This is going to be a roller-coaster, up and down, sit out there, sit out there, if it starts affecting my right side, (surgery) is something I’m going to have get done ASAP, as soon as possible," Williams told Stefan Bondy. "But I’m going to have to try to truck through it as long as possible because I know the team probably needs me." He's out until at least Tuesday this go-around.

In his defense

He obviously was playing hurt if this may require surgery. I’m not saying He’s a great player but his shooting was off because he wasn’t 100%.

Even Shawne Williams isn't really sure.

Saying we “probably” need him is a pretty lukewarm assessment of what he feels he means to this team, and how much he feels he can help them.
Yeah, Billy got gipped.

we do need him, he has the ability to get hot

and that is better than most of our other options. And the way it sounds, he has been playing injured, which could have affected his shooting

Shawne---nope!

I never much liked his game anyway. People his size should be shooting 10-15 foot shots, not 25 foot shots. Besides, now that Owens is on the team, he will get 30 minutes a game, and score 15 points and get 7 rebounds, which is all we need, if he can play some defense.

Is that teams like ours are so bent on preserving cap that they sign [explicit] (rhymes with…mitty) like Shawne Williams to potentially start. How about taking a risk with stars or rising youngsters instead of pulling an Outlaw-esk scenario over and over (over-paying for uneeded….“talent”

If the Nets could attract better talent than Shawne Williams or Travis Outlaw, I’m sure they would. Not that it justifies a ridiculous contract for Trav but there are very few players who have wanted to play for JERSEY.

So don’t tell me, “Dwight wants to be a Net!” Yeah, he wants to be a BROOKLYN Net.

But BK didn’t because of the “big picture.” They wanted as much cap flexibility as possible for max signings like Dwight.

Darren Collison, D.J. Augustin, Raymond Felton, Jimmer Fredette, and Devin Harris are IN NO WAY in the bottom 10 of any NBA expert’s rankings of point guards. It’s actually way too early to even rank Jimmer Fredette at this point. Give it until January/February/March of 2014 and then it might make more sense.

Westbrook signed the extension

The Oklahoma City Thunder signed All-Star point guard Russell Westbrook to a multiyear contract extension on Thursday.
Westbrook was set to become a restricted free agent at the end of the season, meaning the Thunder would have had to match any offer he received from another team if it wanted to keep him. Instead, it locked him up with a new deal 15 games into this season. Terms were not disclosed, but Yahoo Sports reported the deal was worth $80 million over five years.

the nets can turn this franchise around with or without dwill...

it all starts with the draft, smart signings and smart trades. the nets cannot afford anymore bad signings or trades.

as i said in the last thread, this is a very good draft coming up. we already have a lottery pick and maybe houston’s pick. if dwill wants out, find a way to flip him for some mid first round picks this year.

i really do believe in order for this team to have a good future, we have to take advantage of this draft class…

Perception wise

it would be horrible for the Nets if D-Will left. Considering that it would be the first year of Brooklyn and the Nets have made so much hype. No one would go to watch their games, and they’d be the laughingstock of the league once again.

A mostly positive story from Bondy about DWill and Howard:
http://www.nydailynews.com/blogs/nets/2012/01/sources-are-source-of-aggravation-for-deron-williams

Net Income is suggesting that DWill is Broussard’s source. However Bondy isn’t suggesting that.

Bondy IS presenting his own Source that Nets are pretty confident that they are still Howard’s #1 option.

My feeling is that the Nets ability to have cap space to sign Howard’s #1 choice, will force ORL to trade him to the Nets before March 15.

by jerry25 on Jan 21, 2012 5:04 PM EST reply actions

Bondy is wrong then

Deron is the source whether it’s his who told Broussard or not. To think Broussard would just make up a story is ridiculous.

by eLonepb on Jan 21, 2012 5:16 PM EST up reply actions

No one saying he made it up but there are a lot of explanations why it isn't accurate.

DWill could have been pissed after a recent loss and could have been asked a bunch of questions to force him to name teams he would like playing for.

Why would DWill knowingly give Broussard such a story? Makes no sense.

And DWill DID apparently says some positive things – he likes NYC (which was turned into he wants to play for Knicks),
Nets are his 1st choice, he is hopeful of getting Howard to Nets.

by jerry25 on Jan 21, 2012 5:23 PM EST up reply actions

If Lopez doesn't return to top form then maybe DWill has to plan alternatives.

However, I still don’t see DWill’s alternatives (eg Nets trade DWill for Melo) are better than Nets getting Lopez back and using their assets to make team better.

Shawne is a very one dimensional player

As a Knicks fan, I never thought he would be a good fit for you guys. The thing about the Knicks is we really don’t have very many pure shooters on the team, so Shawne stepped up and did a good job in that role. Nearly all of his points came off of uncontested corner 3’s.

by Dylan87 on Jan 21, 2012 5:06 PM EST reply actions

The hope was that Shawne would knock down some of those wide open looks that guys like Outlaw and Simmons have been badly missing for us in the last few years. Shawne did get a lot of those looks, but was even more unsuccessful than those two so far.

Yeah, its a little too much money to give to a guy who shot the ball well for one year

Especially because he doesn’t do anything else well. Also, for a shooter, he doesn’t have a quick release and doesn’t really have a lot of range on his shot.

Seriously, I know “run and gun” is the new thing in the NBA, but with the way Marshon plays (he is a great offensive player in the half court), Brook back on the block, and Deron, we can be one of the best half court offensive teams in the league. Coupled with Avery liking a slow pace, I really think we are going to look great when Brook gets back (at least after some time adjusting)

I care

But i’m certainly not going to sit here and worry about whether DWill is going to leave.

by DJ HeavyDuty on Jan 21, 2012 6:35 PM EST up reply actions

If I were the Knicks

I would do everything I could to acquire him. I’d leverage every asset I had. In for a penny, in for a pound.

That team could always find veteran role players.

Nash is someone they desperately need.

And desperately might be an understatement…

Damion James will undergo right foot surgery on Tue. Jan. 24 in Indianapolis. Will involve the replacement of a screw in 5th metatarsal.

I could not imagine being in his position.

When the doctors screw up with something like a screw, that’s just ridiculous. I know people who have sued for things like that.

I think it's fine.

Honestly, I feel sorry for him. He just can't stay healthy.

Nets can’t catch a break either. S-Will needs surgery also, and the Nets’ only option at the 3 is Larry Owens. Killer B’s need to be focused on getting someone to fill that spot.

by avilanets85 on Jan 21, 2012 6:42 PM EST reply actions

Very off topic but

Joe Paterno is apparently dying. Really upsetting seeing a legendary sports figure like him go just after the situation he has gone through.

I think it's fine.

by NetsMets4Life on Jan 21, 2012 6:42 PM EST reply actions

That he was Sandusky's last victim

I’m a senior at PSU and this is just terrible.

by djeterfan on Jan 21, 2012 6:44 PM EST via Android app up reply actions

I didn't hear the news.

He was made a “fall guy” by the new Penn State Administration.

Never deserved to be fired – just administrative leave.
On Jay Paterno is leaving too.

by jerry25 on Jan 21, 2012 6:58 PM EST up reply actions

Its not news yet

Just rumors that he was taken off respirators this morning and immediate family was injured.

by djeterfan on Jan 21, 2012 6:59 PM EST via Android app up reply actions

Hard to explain too.

I’ve had to defend my opinions hundreds of times since the news came out. I feel like us at PSU family only truly understand the importance of JoePa and how it’s not even related to football.

by djeterfan on Jan 21, 2012 6:50 PM EST via Android app up reply actions

Correct

but you really can’t “defend” Joe or anyone else related to the scandal in any way or you just sound like a child molestation supporter.

I tend to just keep quiet and not discuss it.

by NetsKiNG on Jan 21, 2012 6:51 PM EST up reply actions

Yeah you're right

Btw in no way am I defending the crimes. It’s just the way he got shafted in a 9 word phonecall. Should he have done more? Yes, even he’s admitted to that but its just not that simple.

by djeterfan on Jan 21, 2012 6:54 PM EST via Android app up reply actions

Yup

Board of trustees literally left the man out to dry. Terrible upper management. And ofcourse media made this about JoePa and not the victims or the criminal.

by djeterfan on Jan 21, 2012 6:52 PM EST via Android app up reply actions

Yup

I predicted that within 6 months he would pass away after this scandal broke and he was fired. Sad.

by NetsKiNG on Jan 21, 2012 6:52 PM EST up reply actions

i said that too

Sad his name will be tied to Sandusky

by DJ HeavyDuty on Jan 21, 2012 6:55 PM EST up reply actions

its a shame

99% of his life he lived a noble life, some people will remember the 1%.

by NJ Champ on Jan 21, 2012 6:56 PM EST via Android app up reply actions

Yeah smh. What can you do?

I just hope Sandusky gets what he has coming. The media also played a crucial factor in his demise, almost as much as the cancer itself.

by djeterfan on Jan 21, 2012 6:59 PM EST via Android app up reply actions

He built that school

donated millions to charity, influenced countless lives.

But he should done more in regards to Sandusky and unfortunately with the power of the media, he will be remembered by many for that scandal.

Paterno’s face was on TV more than Sandusky’s. It’s a shame.

by NetsKiNG on Jan 21, 2012 7:00 PM EST up reply actions

he should’ve just like the school should’ve done something too. the whole thing is disgusting

by avilanets85 on Jan 21, 2012 7:01 PM EST up reply actions

Like I said

He did what was legally necessary. There is no intricate coverup here. He should’ve done more that’s all.

by djeterfan on Jan 21, 2012 7:02 PM EST via Android app up reply actions

What REALLY sickened me

what how Sandusky was allowed to frequent campus facilities and bring children around the team. It’s unthinkable to me that he was still allowed to roam on campus.

by NetsKiNG on Jan 21, 2012 7:04 PM EST up reply actions

Btw sorry NI

For the off topic JoePa discussion above. Do what you wish.

by djeterfan on Jan 21, 2012 7:07 PM EST via Android app up reply actions

Yea its really a disgrace

I saw a news article the other day and ot had joepa’s image but said Sandusky underneath. BSPN should moiso themselves.

by djeterfan on Jan 21, 2012 7:01 PM EST via Android app up reply actions

I see positive signs

Net income’s posts seem to indicate a turning point.. I know for awhile he ha said he doesn’t agree with the Dwight/deron Brooklyn or bust plan…

But his posts today seem to indicate a turning point

I’ll do a trade machine later to get dwuss to the Knicks for melo. But we won’t keep melo… Well flip him for picks or assets and there is nothing he can do about it

Just sent this to ESPN

“I know ESPN has absolutely no respect for the New Jersey Nets since their not named the Lakers but at least have the decency to update their injury reports just like every other Professional Sports Team. You only have Shawne Williams on the injury report. What about Brook Lopez who is Out and Damian James who is day-to-day? Oklahoma City’s is up to date, you couldn’t take an extra minute to do the same for the Nets?”

I think i’ve finally reached the boiling point lol. I’m so sick and tired of the lack of respect for the Nets. It’s beyond screwed up.

Breaking news:

Newt Gingrich declared winner in South Carolina, by NBC News at 7PM poll closing time.
Should be about a 9% margin of victory. By mid week Gingrich should be leading in Florida and in whole nation.

President Obama seen celebrating (lol)

Now I will be able to devote full attention to Nets beating tonight.
