Q. and A.'s From King, Owens, Etc.
The Nets Ben Couch has posted transcripts of several recent question and answer sessions with the beat writers, including those of Billy King and new Net Larry Owens on Wednesday as well as others from Avery Johnson and Brook Lopez.
One particularly interesting exchange between King and the writers on checking Deron Williams' "temperature". This was the day before the Nets win over the Warriors.
How often do you take Deron Williams’ temperature?
Billy: I talk to him, I talk to all our guys. Obviously, I talk to Deron quite a bit. He’s frustrated: losing and trying to figure it out. I don’t think he’s playing as well as he’d like. I think, as you’ve said, this part’s been tough for everybody.

This is interesting regarding Marshon
Have you seen improvement on that end?
Billy: He’s got some steps to take, but if you’re scoring 20 or 25 points – I had a guy in Philly (Allen Iverson) who scored 30 – if his opponent got 20 and he got 30, we lived with it. World B. Free said it best, though. Gene Shue asked him, ‘How you gonna defend your opponent?’ He said, ‘If he gets 40, I’ve got to get 50.’ So we’ll take that from MarShon until he learns how to get better on the defensive end.
He's a rookie
And he seems willing to learn, given the Avery + videotape bits we’ve read lately. Love his attitude.

I think MarShon has the tools to be a capable defender
He doesn’t have the foot speed of some of the more athletic wing players but he stays in front of his man well. He has good length and his instincts translate well from offense to defense. I think the biggest thing for him is the mental aspect of it. Apparently, NBA defense is as much a strain on the brain as it is on the body.

I expect us to play much better this weekend even though we are playing our Back to Back to Back
We have off for 2 days which gives us time to practice and go over defensive rotations. I also expect the offense to flow more through Starshon tomorrow. It seems like we found alot of good things that worked vs the Warriors and it was a blend between DWill and Swag.

That's StarShon, sir!

Has anybody won tickets from a Couch giveaway?
I won a pair by answering one of his twitter questions earlier today. He said the tickets would be left at will call. Anybody know if the ticket giveaways are typically decent, or am I better off just dropping $20 & getting lower levels myself? I don’t want to even bother going if I’m stuck up in the 200 section.
I’ve never won anything from Couch, but Nets’ giveaways in general give you good seats. I would think in the 100s at the worst.
