Surprised There is not More Outrage Over Monday's Officiating
I posted this elswhere, and it got locked..not surprisingly.
Never Thought There Was Such Blatant Tampering By Refs Until
I watched the Nets Clippers game on Monday.
I'm not complaining about the outcome, we're the Nets, we're used to losses and I'm not sure they altered the outcome (despite the fact we came back from 17 to tie the game half way through the 4th). But I have never seen refs such blatantly cheat by not making 3 obvious calls tonight. I'm not sure who was in on it among the refs, who told them to do it, how much they get, but this was obvious.
Twice, the Clippers goal tended 2 shots that had already hit the back board, yet the call was not made. It is hard TO miss when the shot hits off the back board and then gets swatted, yet all 3 refs missed it?
One other time, Griffin clearly hit the ball out of bounds and the refs even reviewed the video which evidenced this and said it did not!?! The camera scrolled past half-court and the announcers after the call. I thought it was funny watching the set of Net announcers talking about the call, while most others (LAC announcers I assume) were silent. Again, the refs had video of Griffin hitting the ball out of bounds, they watched it, and said it did not.
I don't have the clips available, but if anyone does please post them.
The point is, I am now a firm believer the officiating in the NBA can be manipulated. Now I'm curious as to by who and how they are compensated for their cooperation.
Please lock or delete this too Netsdaily if you think this will get me or your site in trouble. Otherwise I think it is a fair observation.

Not going to delete it
But if you read the comments in the game recap, you wouldn’t be asking why there wasn’t outrage, because there was plenty of it: http://www.netsdaily.com/2012/1/16/2711954/nets-comeback-falls-short-against-clippers

What are you going to go?
Th officiating was just terrible but what do you expect we’re Nets fans we should be used to this by now,
Nothing
Just find it amazing how the Clippers are Sterling’s team now. But I guess giving into all his demands in the Paul trade and having Griffin will do that.

I was sitting on the couch. Shouting and moaning
Getting up, sitting back down.
Leave the room, come back in
The officiating was so horrible. People who say things like “it was only 4 points, we would have lost anyway” don’t account for how pivotal a call like that can be on mentality and momentum.
I think it was a horrible reminder of how at the mercy of the NBA the team is.
Brook-Brooks-Brooklyn
LET'S DO THIS!
blatant, blatant, blatant
and it changed the outcome of the game imo
The game was tied and in spite of the calls
with a little defense, instead of Okur, would have made the difference.
Happy to see Billy King graduated in an accelerated "how to make a trade" class in just one night :)
Bad Refs
I was wondering what the Refs were going to get in reward for this game
Oh we complained and raged ALOT
but we can’t do anything about it
Nets Mets Giants All day Every day.

NY Giants Tribute
95% of the time when someone complains about officiating, they are wrong.
The refs have no bias in any game and the NBA is a tremendously hard game to officiate. Trying to tell whose arm hit whose when 400 pounds of speeding muscle collide is no easy feat.
But… there is a real point here.
Quite a few veteran refs retired last years and a whole bunch of rookies had to be brought in to replace them. Factor in the insanity of this schedule and the fact that these guys are traveling across the country weekly, reffing 25 games a month, and you can see the potential for problems. You have to understand that the refs are trying their best.

Or when all 3 watch video of Griffin hitting it out of bounds
and still say Clipper ball

Shelden’s fingers were clearly touching the ball along with Blake’s hand. I personally would not be sure who touched the ball last, but it could be easily argued Shelden’s fingers touched the ball last even if it was Blake’s hand doing 99% of the guiding of the ball.
I agree with Mikel L, that referees would not miss a call on purpose. Keep in mind how many things they have to look out for, body contact below, body contact up above, loose ball fouls on players off the ball, time on shot clock. It is unfortunate, but they might have simply not been paying attention to the goaltend when it happened.
MAYBE basketball can employ a similar structure as tennis, perhaps each coach has 3 chances a game to dispute a call and have it reviewed.
I am sure the NBA makes it a top priority that referees do not make bets. They have caught 1, and they will keep attempting to catch more.
The game was fixed
The spread was 7.5 and Bavetta made sure that the Clips covered. It became obvious in the 4th
How does it work though?
Are all three refs in on it?
And who is paying them to do it, and how much?
Is Stern in on it I wonder?

How Much would You Have to Bet?
How Much would You Have to Bet to make fixing a game worthwhile, if you operated a $3 billion business?
