Bondy: MarShon Brooks Fumes at Nets' Lack of Energy in Jazz Loss.

In a series of tweets late Monday morning, Stefan Bondy writes about how angry MarShon Brooks was following the Jazz game Saturday night.

"After the ugly Utah loss: MarShon Brooks sat in front of his locker and didn’t move. His teammates had already left for the bus, but Brooks was in full uniform, fuming.

"He told me, 'They’re not that good. ... We made them look a lot better than what they are. If we don’t come out and play with energy ... We’re not a good enough team to come out and play 60 percent. We’re not going to win games like that..

"Finally, he said, 'I'm not going to let myself get used to this.'

It was a terrible team display…I couldn’t watch the second half.

Brooks has every reason to be angry.

I think Deron has mentally checked out.

Has Deron even called a players meeting? Deron shows an alarming lack of leadership. He whines and tweets about being frustrated at the losing, but it is evident the team has a leadership vacuum.

If he did mentally checked out

Then we are better off if he is out of this team. Send him to a team that could give us a promising young PG or forward plus pick(s).

Dude, its not a lack of talent

Its all a lack of effort. I don’t know what’s wrong but Avery’s not fixing it. At what point is this team going to realize who their best scorer is? Deron should be getting his team good looks and setting the temp( which he kinda does :/ ) and get the ball to Brooks.

Losing is one thing but losing when you shouldn’t it sad. You guy see win loss and say our players suck and we’re bad but we have good players , their just playing against each other right now.

I don’t want to continue ranting but k want to see better effort, we all do . If we expected the team to be this bad then we wouldn’t have a problem with the losses. I’m sure most of you think we should have a better record so what wrong?

by Zartan on Jan 16, 2012 12:24 PM EST via mobile up reply actions

It's both but its more a lack of talent at the moment

We don’t even have a SF on the roster right now. Our best scorer is injured this team was built to be around Lopez. As much as we ragged on Lopez defensively he was a big dude who could block shots by accident, and we saw in the preseason he was ready to go. We have a lot of plodders at the moment with morrow okur etc. Even with the extra effort 3-4 wins is basically where this team should be. Utah just beat Denver last night and Denver beat Miami about a game before were not competing with that yet.

"We're not there yet, but we're going somewhere," Johnson said. "And we're going to Brooklyn. We're not going to contract. We're going to Brooklyn."

by Atronic on Jan 16, 2012 12:47 PM EST via Android app up reply actions

nah in this season with this truncated schedule

they should not be this bad. there have been all types of “head-scratching” wins and the nets should have more to their credit

we have seen multiple times where they go down and then erase a 15-25 point deficit in a quarter. why not play hard from the start and keep the game close the entire way?

they arent even trying to play defense. whether the schemes work or not, they arent even trying and it only takes one person to make everyone on defense look bad unless you have Dwight or Duncan or Yao or KG in their respective primes on the floor with you.

other teams that i see in this much disarray either have a new coach and new system or have a coach that has ran his course or players that are toxic together. Which one are the nets?

50, 60 80 and even 90%. For them to have a chance to win a game it MUST be 101% every night! They should have 0 energy left after the game to celebrate victory.

Honestly I'm ready to rebuild the right way.

No more short cuts. If this last effort ditch for DH12 falls through lets go the OKC route Nd stop looking for the easy give up the farm and season for a superstar Approach. We have some promising players in brook brooks morrow and James. Got a long list of draft picks and a great trade asset in deron. We can really start to build something speciAl if the acquiring Dwight doesn’t work out. Change this teams image into a loyal franchise full of young athletic hard nosed team. Ala OKC of east. Maybe we find out durant in this years draft.

by ItsAllNets on Jan 16, 2012 12:11 PM EST reply actions

The problem is

We were on the right path, before we decided to speed up “the birth of a child”. We had young team featuring Lopez, Favors, Morrow, James, #3 pick. We needed to trade Deving for young PG (Teague – he wasn’t that good a year ago) and with all those picks we’d be 2-3 years away form contending.

Now, it’s all on Dwight. And I don’t even want to think if we miss on him…

by Belarus4life on Jan 16, 2012 12:14 PM EST up reply actions

The so called "OKC method" isn't that easy

Thunder lucked out big time when they drafted guys like Durant, Westbrook, and Harden. There is no guarantee teams can draft players of their caliber in the future. It’s really all about luck, as Prokhorov would say.

maybe because he sees how DWill gives up

Its tough to see people who are supposed to lead not bring it like they should. Players make millions of dollars to play a game but still need to be pushed and motivated to perform at a high level every night. Personally I’m not shooting 3-15 when I go back to play to team that traded me. VC always had a good game in Toronto after being traded. If Deron can’t bring it and will his team to win on that night when will he?

What he said is absolutely right but how is that comment coming from a rookie received by other teammates? I’m not saying he was wrong to say that but you aint gotta be wrong to be hated.

Nonetheless, I hope we do keep this kid and his attitude catches on. Some kids become a pro to get paid, play with better players, whatever floats their boat, but this kids sounds like he became pro to be… well, PRO. That is how a professional should carry oneself.

I think the play of Marshon Brooks is going to help make Billy King’s job much easier when trying to persuade DWill to stay….I think a trio of DWill, Brooks and Lopez could be a very good team and something you can easily build around. Add to that a stud SF from this year’s draft and this is an exciting team to watch – and a top 6 seed in the East next year.

Brooks seems to have the mentality and game of a 20ppg SG in the NBA.

I'm pretty confident that they can't find money to sign all of those guys

1.Salary cap
2. Dirk makes like 20 plus
3. If Dwight was willing to take a pay-cut He would sign with the Nets (his 1st choice)
4.if Dwight goes to free agency there is no reason for Deron to leave

So basically .02% chance of that happening

by nwkiddnj on Jan 16, 2012 1:22 PM EST up reply actions

What does everyone really expect

I agree, there needs to be more of a consistent effort, but look at the Nets schedule and the fact that they have lost Brook, and many others have missed games due to inuries.

Losses to Atl 3 times, Orlando, Miami, Indiana, Boston, Denver, Utah, Cleveland…

Cleveland is the team they should have beaten. Utah was a winnable game, but the rest? Boston’s record is misleading, but playing all those teams when your team is filled injuries up and down the roster, and thrown into a brutal schedule to start the season, did anyone expect this team to actually win??

Again, a better effort would make it manageable to watch, but even with that, this team would probably only have maybe 1 or 2 more wins if that. To expect more is just being delusional

by domininaldo1981 on Jan 16, 2012 12:58 PM EST reply actions

agreed

we’re losing to teams we should be losing to, teams definitely better than us, so no one should be jumping off any bridges after games.

but truth is sometimes the effort really is that poor, and Saturday’s game was one of them

by sheepareevil on Jan 16, 2012 1:09 PM EST up reply actions

It's about coming ready to play every night.

If you play hard and consistently every night, you’ll win more than you lose in any professional sport, including the NBA. A team with Michael Jordan, Labron or Kobe can win 65 games in a season; a team which plays consistently hard, but has less talent, can win more than it loses in a season.

by swampdog #1 on Jan 16, 2012 1:19 PM EST up reply actions

can't say they'll win more than they lose

playing hard and consistent only gets you so far. Still need talent to go along with that consistency.

by domininaldo1981 on Jan 16, 2012 1:26 PM EST up reply actions

All these guys are talented.

Every player in the NBA has talent, admittedly they’re not all Labron or Kobe, but they all have talent nonetheless. The biggest variable in winning is consistency. Superstars are ultra-consistent, bench players less so.

Teams which play consistently hard, will win more than they lose because they’ll usually beat inconsistent teams like the Nets, Kings, Raptors, etc.

by swampdog #1 on Jan 16, 2012 1:57 PM EST up reply actions

One Play Tells All!!

There was one play in the 2nd half that told all anyone need to know about the Nets’ effort against the Jazz: Jazz on offense and a jumpshot is taken from about 18 feet. Al Jefferson is under the basket, surrounded by 3 Nets’ players, none of whom puts a body on him to block him out. When the shot clangs off the rim, Jefferson is the ONLY one of the 4 players under the basket to jump for the rebound. Of course, he puts back the rebound for 2 easy points – a total lack of effort on their parts, which cannot be explained by fatigue.

The 3 Nets didn’t try to box him out, didn’t jump for the rebound and didn’t foul him to prevent the easy 2-point basket -a total lack of effort, which cannot be explained by fatigue. Even when you’re tired, you can make a half-hearted effort to lean on a guy to prevent him from jumping for a rebound, if the will is there.

Dwight stuff

we keep giving weight to ‘D12 want to play with DWill’, or ‘Dwight won’t want to follow in Shaq’s footsteps’ or ‘Dwight won’t want to play with an aging Dirk’.

I think it’s really as simple as which team between Dallas, NJ, and LA gets creative enough to come up with a package that Orlando likes.

Dallas and LA are in play because Dwight knows each of these teams always try to put a winner on the floor. Period. Don’t matter who’s there now or later…he and his agent have that faith in both those teams. Do i know this as fact? No. But it’s not as outlandish as to say he won’t go to Dallas or LA cuz of Shaq’s shadow or Dirk’s age. Both Dallas and LA are on his list of teams for a reason.

As for NJ, our draw is and has always been DWill + Brooklyn.

So again, at the end of the day, the team with the best package will get Dwight. And what we do know is Dallas, NJ, and LA are in play and he likely has already given assurances to all 3 GMz that he’ll sign on the dotted line so as long as they get him in a trade.

hes a highly skilled rookie who has shown flashes of being able to dominate but he doesnt even have a 30 pt game yet. theres no telling where he’ll be in 3 years.

Not saying he's phenomenal right now.

I’d rather build around Dwight and Marshon than Deron and Brook (with no Marshon).

This is eerily similar to CDR from a couple years ago

I have no problem w it though, I only hope Avery has the coaching skill to keep marshons passion/enthusiasm for winning positive..

by NJNETS29 on Jan 16, 2012 2:23 PM EST via mobile reply actions

how is it like CDR?

CDR seeked attention like a 15 year old girl. On twitter instigating fans. Calling out his coaches (to be fair that coach was Kiki Vandeweghe). Acting like he was some franchise player. Weird sense of entitlement. Brooks has his head on straight and is a gym rat. He was just frustrated by people’s lack of effort. If you watched the game you would be too. Guys were just standing around watching rebounds fly over their heads.

by William_H_HOLLA on Jan 16, 2012 2:27 PM EST up reply actions

No matter how you look at it

they both showed frustration, but only one gets labeled as a bad guy. Double standards aren’t cool with me no matter how much I like Brooks. If Brooks was on that 0-18 team, he sure as hell would have exploded like everyone else. Us as fans was super pissed, imagine the guys that get paid millions, how they would feel.

I don't think CDR was a bad guy, he was just a locker room cancer who thought he was Michael Jordan for some reason

Brooks is just venting his frustration from a terrible effort by his team. I don’t blame him. CDR was on twitter talking about how he wanted out.

I don't like how he ranted alot

but he must have saw a lot of things contributing to the 0-18 start, 12-70 that others didn’t see. Nets have ripped a lot of talents players apart. Losing isn’t easy for any player, so I’m not against ranting on Twitter as well.

why trade for Dwight?

If Im Dwill trading for Dwight hurts the team long term. Nets arent winning anything this year whether Dwight comes or not…hopefully the real deal is Dwight signs with the Nets in the offseason thus allowing the team to keep al of its assets as well as a top pick in this years stacked draft. Best case scenario at this point though risky but at this point why not. I assume the big issue would be Dwight gets more $ if traded to Nets and signs.
