Jazz Crush Nets As Deron Williams Struggles In Return

Deron Williams' return to Utah was not pretty. Amid a mix of cheers and boos, the Nets' point guard shot 3-for-15 and had as many turnovers (five) as assists on Saturday night, as the Nets lost an ugly one to the Jazz, 107-94.

The Nets left their offense in Phoenix, shooting 43 percent from the field and 9-for-27 from 3-point range. Their defense wasn't any better, allowing Utah to shoot 52 percent and grab 14 offensive rebounds. The Nets were within four early in the second quarter, but went without a field goal over the next 5:19 and never threatened after that.

Kris Humphries led the Nets with 18 points and 10 rebounds. MarShon Brooks, Anthony Morrow, Jordan Farmar and Sundiata Gaines also scored in double-figures.

but then I thought that the game was over for so long that ND had this written up before it was officially over and just filled in the blanks with some stats lol

Avery’s a good coach but every coach needs good players

Thats what i felt last season

But he’s just not coaching well at all this season, and is just letting deron do whatever he wants and lets him get off freely when he doesn’t play well. I need a coach who will call his players out and don’t settle for moral victories when they don’t play well…

Eh we are screwed yeah. But as for who is guarding Griffen.

I thought that would be obvious, Humphries who shut him down the two times we played them last year.

yea please cut jordan williams

he does NOTHING besides eat and tweet

Kathleen D’Angelo normally starts her day around the same time as Johnson. She is the team’s personal chef, and works with her assistant, Dania Almonte. The facility’s kitchen was recently renovated, and the smells of D’Angelo’s cooking often waft onto the practice court. She prepares a buffet of food this morning: eggs, pancakes, fruit, oatmeal. There is a much deeper emphasis these days concerning what players consume. D’Angelo has been with the organization for four years. She is constantly preparing for the next day, from shopping to cooking, always lunch and breakfast and, in training camp, often dinner. She will start on lunch — a roasted loin of pork — before breakfast even ends.

Most players stop at her station before stepping into their locker room. Jordan Williams is one of those players.

He asks, “Can I get a to-go plate, please?”

I just came up with a great game plan.

Don’t ever let 5 players on this team shoot more shots than Marshon Brooks in a game.

It hard to give the kid the ball when he has a very good defender on him, and its going to be very hard for brooks to score

by GameTime on Jan 14, 2012 11:46 PM EST via mobile up reply actions

brooks is fine

dribbles into doubelteams and passes out, doesn’t force.
when he can see the double come and release (as deron does), rather than wait for it to come and be forced to throw a slower pass to the next guy, he’s gonna be amazing

by jsalkin1 on Jan 14, 2012 11:47 PM EST up reply actions

Dwill needs to play like an all star

I understand we have been dealing with injuries and our roster isn’t that great or whatever, but if dwill was at least shooting 45% from the field instead of 38, we would have at least two more games in the win column instead of the loss column.. He’s playin like crap

by JayMS on Jan 14, 2012 11:29 PM EST via mobile reply actions

notice how yesterday he shot really well? it's because his teammates were shooting well

D-Will isn’t D-Rose. he can’t take over a game by sinking shots left and right. he can take over games by making incredible passes to his teammates and then making shots because he gets good looks and isn’t double-teamed. not happening with this team

Even if DWill went 35/14 again, he couldn't have done anything about 64 points in the paint

DWill surely had a bad game but he’s not the main reason we lost. Jefferson and Millsap dominated the paint and everything else followed. There’s no defense.

We already saw this in that close win against that decimated Phoenix team.

you have not been watching them very long. Usually team can do one thing well, we can’t do anything well but put up 3 point shots.

idc about our offense. 91 pts isn’t even that atrocious. and deron helps the offense go even when he can’t buy one.

Also Deshawn Stevenson bugs me..

I know he had great things to say about the franchise going forward and seeing the big picture, but he chucks up threes even when hes not open. His shot selection is horrendous and i dont see this huge defensive stopper that everyone keeps talking about. i see better defense in marshon imo

by sciara92 on Jan 14, 2012 11:41 PM EST reply actions

Exactly

He only shot like 2 times in the game

by BkNetsfan on Jan 14, 2012 11:45 PM EST up reply actions

This game, yeah.

But this season before today..He took a total of 37 shots in total. 33 of them being 3’s…11 of them going in.

by sciara92 on Jan 14, 2012 11:48 PM EST up reply actions

DWill shot bad again, Avery has no offensive system, but also team defense is non-existent

Lopez’s return will help the offense flow much better but our defense will still stink.

It’s bad enough with the missed shots but the opposing team slicing through us like knife on butter is even more frustrating and much more difficult to solve.

by stenpoint on Jan 14, 2012 11:42 PM EST reply actions

one love to Hump, i forget you arent a great defender, you did everything else you are good at

and showed up. the rest of the team, including the coaches: consume a fatty

where is the pride? when do you get tired of getting rolled up on night after night. someone get a tech, get a flagrant, get in someone face, everyone contempt with being losers. Big picture or not at least show up.

The Heat won 88 games the two years before Lebron and Bosh came

Coaches: please you have to be smarter than this. the defensive schemes arent working, you have no offensive gameplan. you are doing a terrible job managing the minutes on the roster. Good teams arent breaking a sweat, bad teams have random scrubs go off for big stats. You must hold yourself accountable for not holding the players accountable for not executing.

Sorry but like NI said this is a lost season and thats only if Dwight comes, I dont want to hear about moral victories and such. Well i wont expect many wins until Lopez is healthy. but man can they at least keep the game within 5-10 points instead of swinging back and forth from 15-30 point deficits?

if the team can get Mayo for Farmar it's a great trade

He’d start and help with another player that can get his own shot.
Or come off the bench for scoring with he and Ammo for a 1 2 punch.

If they trade Morrow it’s up for debate.
Morrow’s got better numbers OJ Mayo’s got the name but Ammo’s better imo.

only thing bothering me is the D

i understand we can’t be elite, and can’t be an elite D, with this personnel
but i’d like to be an average defense. don’t mind if we lose games 98-91 where we don’t have the horses, but allowing 50% stings

by jsalkin1 on Jan 14, 2012 11:48 PM EST reply actions

i just don't know what it is

avery DID transform dallas: routinely awful on D b4 he got there, then great.
Theory: he knows we r not a great team, doesn’t want to hurt guys feelings/confidences, so is taking a softer approach (in dallas, he was a tyrant with their vets)

by jsalkin1 on Jan 14, 2012 11:52 PM EST up reply actions

no he didnt, all he did was force them to play slow

something that Harris and other young guys could not stand. otherwise when Kidd got there they would not have gotten embarrassed like they did in the playoffs.

Carlisle transformed the defense

IMO

Avery was givin the keys to the brand new porche. Nelson built up that team( earned respect) then GAVE it to Avery.

The problem with Avery is the problem with Frank, both had/have allstar PGs undermining them. You can’t have that on any level. No player will respect you.

Didn't watch the game

because I already knew the outcome. From the highlights, I see the Nets couldn’t handle Utah’s bigs, and D-Will had an off game. Can’t really blame him, he was probably extremely nervous and pressured. Utah is the better team, just gotta keep moving.

I know Deron hasn't been playing well recently (with one exception)

but looking at at some of the pieces around him (PETRO!!) I can’t blame him. My experiences recently playing on some pretty bad intramural teams have shown me how much is sucks to be playing with people who are below the necessary skill level. Not only do you have to worry about your duty, but you also have to worry about covering theirs as well. Its exhausting and disheartening. I know the difference is that Deron gets paid lots of money to do what he does, but, I gotta say, we need some better players, and then Deron’s game will get better exponentially.

by giantsnetsmets on Jan 15, 2012 2:35 AM EST reply actions

Pain in the paint

The Jazz are deep on bigs: veterans Jefferson-Millsap to start, youngsters Favors-Kanter off the bench, and they were all healthy. Our mostly mediocre bigs were no match. The Nets gave up 64 points in the paint.

But to compound the severe mismatch on talent, Avery also made the wrong decision of not doubling Al Jefferson enough, who abused our bigs. It showed over and over again that Okur/Petro/Shelden can’t play him straight up and he shouldn’t have feared the kick-out 3s because Jefferson is known as a black hole in offense ( had 1assist, averages 1.4) and would’ve had a less easy time if he was doubled more.

by stenpoint on Jan 15, 2012 8:22 AM EST reply actions

Perspective

Even on a bad night for DWilk, I still think the Nets did well in the trade. What they gave up is not performing well. It’s unfortunate that he did not turn the booing into a motivation to outperform but a bad performance under those conditions is understandable and the average fan should see that. This team has no interior presence without Lopez and 64 points in the paint given up on the road is not a surprise. Without Lopez, they can only beat the weakest teams and only if they overachieve. At the 3 thru 5 positions, the Nets without Lopez are the league’s worst.
