D-Will's Frustration Mounts: Not Sleeping Well, Affecting Everything

Deron Williams recognizes he may look like he's fed up with the Nets, but it's more fed with losing. "It's a fine line," Williams told reporters Friday. "People think I'm just being an ass----, but I just hate to lose. I just don't like losing. I don't sleep well when I lose. It just affects everything I do. So we've got to turn it around."

"I've never lost this much in my career, this early, this consistently,'' he said. "But you know, it's still early in the season, we're still learning how to play with each other, so there's not really a timetable on how quickly a team can gel together, we're just taking longer than we would like.''

As for Anthony Morrow's mindset after being mentioned in trade talks for O.J. Mayo, he's gotten used to it. "Same old, man. Like last year but it’s nowhere near as bad," Morrow said. "It’s part of the game. It is what it is.

Team, including Deron, is performing at "ugh" level, or have you not been watching.

Deron, as the locker-room and floor leader, has the responsibility to lead.

From what we fans see, Deron’s play and leadership skills displayed are “ugh”.

This was 10 years ago almost

this is a different NBA Era by far. I would have paid to see that Finals team in today’s NBA. The reason that team worked so good is because it had one of the best PG’s to ever play, and each player brought something to that team, along with the fact we had a good bench. Magical years, and the highest point for the Nets but oh how so fast Two Final appearance can turn into 0-18 start along with a 12-70 finish.

Unless the West was also weak, I’d say the team was just plain good.

Kittles actually came back from a lost season and surgery on both knees...

The Nets don’t bring ratings. It’s the same reason they don’t spend much time covering hockey, and it’s the reason guys like Skip Bayless have jobs. ESPN doesn’t care about actually reporting anything or being accurate or “fair” in their coverage. It’s a business like anything else, ratings and money are the concern which is why they’ll play to the biggest fan bases.

but why does pretty much everyone hate Deron all of a sudden?
Yeah he’s not playing up to his standards

When your not playing up to your standard because your in a slump that’s one thing. When your not playing at your best because of a lack of effort then that’s another. Getting kicked out of the game the other night because your not getting calls is SHAMEFUL. Your supose to be the leader of the team and we still had a slight chance to win that game. He put his selfish reasons ahead of the team.

by DWILL-of-the-GODZ on Jan 13, 2012 4:42 PM EST up reply actions

As an anti-Deron guy I will defend him

He is in a tough spot… imagine being traded from a playoff team to one of the NBA’s worst?? Moreover, the team had no real intention of being good.. Sure, the end result of a Nene and co. addition may have resulted in a .500 team.. but that would be better and more fun than basketball now

Going to work without fun.. hating your job wears upon you. He is a human being and unhappiness is hard to deal with. We can all point to how much money he makes.. but there is more to happiness than that and Deron is discovering that.

So it is affecting his sleep. Sleep deprivation causes people to be irritable.. and can also affect athletic performance.. hence a cyclical effect.

by orangeeater on Jan 13, 2012 4:19 PM EST reply actions

hard to feign happiness.

when you aren’t having fun it shows. When I tweeted to Deron that he should ask for a trade.. in many ways I mean it. If he isn’t happy it doesn;t serve Deron well nor does it serve the teams or fans well.

I hope he is discovering it isn’t all about the money. He will have money wherever he goes. He will not have happiness always.

If we get Dwight. that changes everything for him. Work becomes fun for him. He has incentive to show up.. there is hope. Without Dwight, he should go to a different team.. for his own good and our own

by orangeeater on Jan 13, 2012 4:22 PM EST up reply actions

He also thought he would be playing with Howard now

To be on the verge of playing with him (Otis accepted trade) and then having the rug pulled out from under (ORL mgmt nixing the trade), followed by a lengthy period of having to play with a shell of a team, must be frustrating

OK, here's what Stein told me via DM

I read his latest article so I wanted to correct a couple of things he was stating there: DWill being a DAL native & DAL being able to bid for 2 max cats next summer.

I replied to his 1st DM telling him all of Miami’s big 3 took a paycut while Deron and Dwight would have to take less while Dirk makes $21M. I also told him that if DWill&Dwight joining Dallas was both possible and something they were interested in why aren’t the Mavs Dwight’s first choice? I reminded him Nets are, not Mavs.

Then I replied to his DM saying they can offer them playing with Dirk and that being a reason why they might accept a paycut telling him Dirk is 34, and will be 35 come playoff time of the first year of DWill&Dwight’s contracts should they both sign there (last DM is his reply to that).

you know

no one thought that the Knicks would swoop in and land Tyson Chandler.

All this selling Dallas short stuff is unwise imo. Cuban is clearly setting himself up to make a run at both players.

And man, I’m tired of this “Dwight is Nets first choice” stuff. I’ll need to hear it from his mouth, otherwise the Dwight to LAL/DAL stuff will continue.

Van Gundy said it, Woj and STein (best sources for me) said it. You think Dwight will come out in the media and say “Yeah I want to go to Brooklyn”. You are crazy if you believe that…

And the question is not if Dwight wants to come here, as his first choice, but more if he would be willing to reject a contract extension in LA.

100% you're right

a new era WAS created. in this era, stars want one thing: to play with another star. u dont put a 2 star alignment together, and he’s gone. the way to do that is to create capspace and position urself for a star: thats EXACTLY what we did. we can deal for dwight or he can walk over.

what do you suggest we should’ve done?

Paul left to join a team oozing with young potential, Melo left the Nuggets to join Amare and the team he always wanted to play for along with there subpar cast after the trade. Dwight plays the entire season in Orlando.

He’s playing at a superstar level and is carrying his team right now, he’s making it hard for Otis to part ways with him.

He also believes he won’t get traded past deadline.

There's only one way the plan works - ONE WAY!

It works if the fix is already in between Dwill and Dwight. Nothing else matters. If they have not already agreed to play together in Brooklyn, then it is not happening. We will know in July.

suppose we signed nene and whoever

we would merely be average. i saw nene play us: nothin special. so we’re average we lose first round, second if exceedingly lucky, and deron 100% bolts for dallas.

WHY do that. under this plan we actually CAN get howard. cleveland toronto denver and new orleans spent inordinately on average talent, without a star. did it work? no! so why coppy those teams and sign nene, butler, etc.

do i agree on risk? certainly: like i said above, if dwight ok’s LA we lose deron. and if dallas clears cap for pairing both with dirk, we lose deron. but if those don’t happen, we got this

Question:

Why is everyoen so certain, at least most reporters, that if Dwight gets traded to the Lakers, the Nets will have to look to trade Dwill? I mean, if D12 wants to play with Dwill, doesn’t he still have the option to walk in the summer?
Maybe its wishful thinking on my part, but I truly feel even if he gets traded to LA, he will
leave and play in BK with Dwill. I don’t think the Nets should be hasty and just trade Dwill, unless D12 says he’s definitely staying in LA, which I don’t think he will. He’s not Shaq and doesn’t want to be Shaq (free throws aside).

I would not be shocked if that happened.

I think there is an agreement in place between Dwill and Dwight. Dwight will come here in July if he’s not traded here in March.

Plan A all the way: Brook, Brooks, Deron, Dwight and a top draft pick SF

If he isn't giving the Lakers any assurances

there’s no chance in hell they trade for him. That said, once he’s on the Lakers and playing with Kobe and in the playoffs – there’s no chance he’s leaving that, especially to turn down $27M in guaranteed money.

No. Deron is an introverted (I think) and introspective guy. He is more humble than most athletes.

He isn’t giving excuse.. he is giving honest answers,

Plus. you are comparing him to superstars and Hall of Famers. It is possible that Deron’s trajectory always was Hall of Really Good and not Hall of Fame

I think you are way too easy on Deron in your fanpost

I don’t have a problem with his body language or poor play. I know it bugs a lot of us Nets fans, and that’s cool, but it doesn’t bug me. It’s pathetic, but it doesn’t really faze me. I got bigger problems.

But this a man who gets millions of dollars to play a kids game. I can’t feel sorry for him, or give him a pass. You say he used to winning at all previous levels. Well, he also used to being pampered and favored all along the way. Now he is running into a little adversity, just like we all have done or will do sooner or later.

I’m not worried about DWIll. As far as I can tell he is an exceptionally strong and intelligent person. I fully expect him to snap out of this and prove all his doubters wrong. I have faith in the man because he is, without a doubt, special.

I dont think people on here

will admit how AWFUL the ENTIRE supporting cast is…
Morrow- less athletic then steve kerr… BAD defensively, Great stand still shooter…
Farmar- Most selfish guy on team, dillusional view of himself, freezes out brooks.
gaines- cant shoot, not a good defender, can get in paint ok…
James- useless on offense, solid role defender
Shawne- worst signing of the year
Stevenson- one of the few that plays ok basketball, and can at least defend and hit 3;s
Sheldon- just a bad player… but sadly 2nd best interior guy
Okur- clearly not healthy and struggling with poor ball movement; good bench player
Hump- excellent rebounder, so so defender, and CANNOT create his own shot, adding pressure to the PG
Petro- worst player in NBA< hands down
Marshon- the only help for Dwill, hes going to be a good one.
Add in the fact the coach is HORRIBLE and puts terrible pairings on the floor, and has no offense… what do you all expect???
Deron is not playing deron bball. he is a PG… they are telling him to score, and that is not him. hes a 10 assist guy, and scores off confidence from his passing. nets players cannot even catch. He is frustrated as hell that he is failing to shoot well. turnovers happen because we have no offense, and pressing to make plays.
Stop whining about Deron… dont tell me hes not trying. you really thing he is not trying? are you friggin kidding me. his frustration is because he is trying, and failing, because the players around him STINK!!!!!!!!!

Morrow – Agree
Farmar – Somewhat Agree
Gaines – Disagree strongly. He is our best on ball defender. His shot is decent. Gets to the line
James – Agree
Shawne – Im getting ready to jump ship on Shawne but I will give him a few more games. Good D
Stevenson – Agree
Sheldon – Disagree. He has played about as well as he can. He is our 2nd best big right now
Okur – Not healthy. I like his shot buthis defense is putrid. at least he fouls hard
Hump – Agree
Petro – Agree
Marshon – Agree. Needs to improve his help defense and be quicker with his decisons.
Avery – strongly disagree. Its hard to be a good coach when you dont have the horses.

Frustrated?

Everyone’s frustrated by this season – fans, players, coaches, management, ownership. Everyone thought we were just about to turn a corner after so much disappointment and disrespect the past 6 years. Then one thing after the other outside anyone’s control and there we are again – near the bottom of the heap.

But one thing makes fans different from everyone else associated with the team. We "choose" to hang in there, to keep watching, hoping, praying, venting, blaming others, acting as if we’re GMs, coaches, players, and the media. We can just as easily walk away, turn off the TV or stop going to the games. If the news is too bad or the team is unwatchable, we can jump ship – not threaten to, but actually switch teams. Instead most of us keep posting – realists, optimists and pessimists alike. We’re tough on the organization, the players, each other; we’re tough on everyone. Still we keep coming back.

While we can walk away, almost everyone else associated with the Nets organization is stuck with this team. Players get drafted, traded, sign bad contracts – and they all hope things are going to change. Then they get injured, disrespected, and some get frustrated – that’s understandable because these are proud men; most are talented athletes. Would you want to work on a product that completely sucks? Course not; but Nets players, coaches, management, etc have no choice. Yeah some of them earn good money – great money – but so what? We’re not paying their salaries.

So we choose to ride this insane roller coaster every day – but all in all, if we weren’t real Nets fans, why would we waste so much time as part of this community? I’m going to be a fan next week, month, year, no matter which 5 men we trot out on the floor and I think most of you will too. We have no power – seriously none – to change what’s going on, but I for one wouldn’t give up on this team, even if I’m the only one watching. There’s a reason we keep rooting for this team – in bad times and worse times. We’re used to it; we’re Nets fans.

that may be it

but i’m really stuck on NI’s explanation. If the Nets get Mayo now, they are getting a young player who can be their shooting guard of the future. MarShon is gone by the deadline in a D12 deal, so getting a player to replace him who has loads of potential and could be had for cheap is very shrewd.

Again, I’m hoping the deal goes through and there are just a few bumps that need to be ironed out.

We'll Be Fine.

A blind man can see what’s wrong with Deron and the Nets…

Nets management have patched a team together and that team is not clicking yet.

Add in losing Brook Lopez and other nagging injuries to several other players, a very tough opening schedule and guess what, you might not be winning too many games.

Deron biggest problem is that he talks to much and to honestly. Maybe it’s his way of taking the heat off the rest of the team.
