Wojnarowski: Nets And Grizzlies Have Talked About Swap Of O.J. Mayo For Anthony Morrow

PrintAdrian Wojnarowski tweeted Thursday night that the Nets and Grizzlies "have been engaged in trade talks centered on guard O.J. Mayo, but a deal appears unlikely."
Woj tweeted further that talks between the two teams "included scenarios for Anthony Morrow and a pick for O.J. Mayo, but discussions have lost traction."
Mayo is getting paid $5.6 million this season and will be a restricted free agent next summer. The Grizzlies have lost bigs Darrell Arthur and Zach Randolph already this season. They've already traded guards Greivis Vasquez and Xavier Henry in deals that brought back forwards Quincy Pondexter and Marreese Speights.

1) Dwight listed him as one of six or seven players he’d like as teammates.
2) Think about the open looks he’d be getting with Deron and Dwight on the team. I’d rather have a sharpshooter like Ammo than OJ Mayo getting those open looks.
3) I am not a fan of losing both Brooks and Ammo at all.

Morrow is a great shooter BUT
He has no penetration and dribbling ability. He isnt a go to scorer which is what we need. It may be brooks in the future, but we cannot rely on him already

Mayo is the better player, but Morrow is the better shooter.
We do need perimeter defenders, and Mayo would add that.

For those who might not recall, Mayo was a stud his first 2 seasons. Basically, when starting. Shot the ball low to mid 40%, and added a decent amount of boards and assists for a SG.
To similar to Rudy Gay, so they had him coming off the bench, but the guy SHOULD e starting in this league.

I thought he seemed like a great guy in the NBA TV segment they had on him. One of those deals where the camera follows him throughout his whole day/routine. All the trainers and staff had nothing but positive things to say… hard worker, good tude, etc

I remember making a similar argument with Ime Udoka and Batum
starting over Outlaw. (But Outlaw is an athlete, which means he can defend by default!)
Udoka couldn’t even make our team this year.

That’s how it works when you buy a pick. That team makes the pick for you and you buy the rights, that way, they can still trade their pick the following year. Just b/c it was made with the Lakers’ pick, doesn’t mean that NY didn’t make the decision to draft him

I've never been a fan of Juice
but definitely do this. Morrow stinks and his importance in the Dwight thing is over-rated. Juice can at least create his own shot a little bit, run the floor, dribble, and somewhat finish at the rim.
Morrow does nothing other than hit standstill threes and occasionally shoot turnarounds over smaller players. He doesn’t come off screens, he can’t dribble, he can’t get to the rim, and he plays no defense. He is just a stand still shooter. Do it.

Morrow's best role is coming off the bench hitting some 3s
but OJ is a better overall player. OJ can penetrate, shoot, attack the rim, play some D, etc… more rounded player.
OJ was AWESOME his rookie year and still pretty good his 2nd season but 3rd season was disappointing.
this is a player that needs a new star. If morrow+a not-so-valuable-pick can get it done, you do it.
PS- I love Ammo but his lack of defense and athletic ability really hurts our team.

While we need as much scoring as we can, a spot-up or catch-and-shoot guy is the complement we need, as we already have a guy who scores while dominating the ball. Mayo is a RFA, who isn’t that good to begin with. Not to mention, we already have Brooks who is currently playing the kind of role that Mayo does. Then when you consider that a draft pick was being thrown in there, along with Morrow, this is not an appealing deal at all.

this team needs a shake up it needs more creators...we have too many guys that just stand behind the 3 point line waiting for the ball
Dwill and Marshon are the only ones that can penetrate and get to the line..the 3 ball is great but misses lead to fast breaks or over the back fouls….

a guy who refuses to play Al Horford at PF because he doesnt want to take time to help Josh Smith learn a jump shot so he lets his team get crushed by the normal frontlines.
then he doesnt even run them fast to take advantage of the athleticism. no lets let Joe Johnson hold the ball for 20 seconds every time down the court and send everybody at the glass for offensive rebounds because we cant get any on the defensive end.
end result: Hawks were one of the worst transition defenses under him. they were always top 5 in fast break points allowed under him

He’s the type of guy that could help carry us right now. He can play in the post, and would spread the floor more for guys like Morrow and Deron.
There are other guys too, but he only has next year left on his contract, so he’d be a decent piece (scoring 15PPG) even if he had to go to Orlando.

Mayo can actually put the ball on the floor & create his own shot, which would help make teams pay for trapping DWill .
Mayo is an expiring contract. In the event we don’t land Dwight via trade, we need some extra cap space to sign him in free agency without renouncing Lopez. We can’t depend on Farmar and/or Shawne opting out.

i like this trade
I think we have a lot of one dimensional players with the exception of Dwill. Our team really lacks athleticism that can drive and score on their own in iso situations, these are the players that break down defenses and draw double teams. This is why I’m all for Mayo over Morrow.

They will definitely be taking less talent back but they have capable players who can create own shot in Gay and Conley at times so I think Morrow will be very well utilized. Now I hear about it, it sounds like Win-Win for both. Although other teams can probably offer better package…

On our roster, other than Brooks (who would be gone in a Dwight trade IF it goes down), only 4 players can create their own shot…one is injured, and the other three are our point guards. Even if we get Dwight, he isn’t exactly a smooth offensive player…Mayo would still be nice to create his own shot.

any player traded after January 15, which is Sunday (meaning close of business Friday) cannot be included in a multi-player trade at the deadline. Traded players cannot be dealt for 60 days other than in a one-for-one.

Doesn't it make more sense, if the purpose is to prepare for getting DH to make a multi-team trade that includes Memphis later on?
I still think Cousins to ORL makes the most sense, if it is true that ORL doesn’t like Lopez as much as SAC would.

Its not realistic to wait until the last day to trade for Howard.
I’d rather play it safe and include Morrow in a trade to ORL.
No one dislike’s Morrow.
And Morrow is cheaper and will be going forward.

sorry for posting the same thing, but seriously this would be a good move by the Nets. The kid has so much potential, I think him being in Memphis is preventing him from becoming the best player he can be. Bottom Line
Having OJ Mayo would make the currently constructed Nets team significantly better because it would create more opportunities for Deron. Seeing as Morrow is incapable of creating plays, Deron is being harassed by defenses. Hence, if OJ were the other starting guard, it would give Deron the ability to drive more, in my opinion.
I think that if there is a way to salvage this deal, it would be great for the Nets. Mayo can flat out score, and quite frankly they do not need him on Memphis.
In other news, Dwight just threw up an air ball from the elbow — a shot Lopez makes in his sleep.

I like players that get bashed alot
they get bashed a lot most because of the hate. Your talking about two of the best to ever play the game in VC and Lebron, who were love by all before they left there teams where they were seen as Kings. I’ve watched basketball for so long and study and view how players play, like there style and other aspects. Lebron is the best player since MJ just by his skill set and his ability, and everyone bashes him for his 4th quarter woes because he has no other weak points. I have no problem with Lebron getting knocked for his fails, until you realize he’s not in Cleveland anymore, and he plays with two franchise players in Bosh and Wade. Carter is another long story, liked the guy as a Raptor, Loved him as a Net, became my favorite player after one player decide the only cure for a Migraine was to be traded.

He's been criticized alot
until people realizes he plays for a great franchise, coach, and with some of the best during there time. I just don’t like Kobe, because I feel a lot of player would have doen just as good if they were put into his shoes, but I respect him for what he has done. I don’t hate him, just dislike him.

Lebron is the best player since MJ just by his skill set and his ability
Really? He travels, is notorious for charging into players (offensive foul)
and isn’t as comfortable going left.
It’s in the scouting report to force him left because he pulls up for the jump shot more often than not.
His jump shot isn’t polished either nor does he have a good post up game despite the fact that he outweighs most defenders.
You say you study his game honestly you don’t see the holes in his game?

He has flaws
but he’s the closest thing overall with his ability to score, play D, rebound, and pass the ball. And he doesn’t travel all the time like many make it seems. If LBJ was a better shooter, he would be even better than he already is which is scary, but I take it what it is. Another thing to factor in his that he came into the NBA straight out of High School, but unlike others, he was NBA ready. He’s going to retire with some historic number if he keeps this pace up for the next 3-5 years.

He depends on his freakish athleticism too much imo.
It’s not even a big deal he doesn’t have a great shot since he’s the size of a power forward.
Like you said he didn’t go to college to tone his skills he missed out on the coaching. He was physically ready for the NBA but it’s scary truth he could have been even better.

I don’t think anyone would ever think to see a player average 25-7-7 consistently before. And he does anything that’s ask of him. But people also pushed him out of Cleavland as well. Since the NBA has become “Ring Dominance” and the Cavs weren’t getting better, he left to go to a better team. Loyalty is now dead in the NBA, and its going to be rare to see good players stay with there team outside of there rookie contract.

We need to be going after guys like this.
We have ONE guy besides D-will who can create his own shot. Thats pitiful. Besides brooks and dwill. You have a very good 3 point shooter in morrow who cant do anything else. A very good rebounder in Humphries who is just solid but not a star- and then the rest….Mayo would automatically give us a dynamic backcourt. Who cares if Brooks skillset is similar to Mayo’s. Thats an excellent tandem at the 2. The other we SHOULD be going after and I keep saying we should be going after him is Beasley. I still cant believe we turned down CDR/2nd rounder for him. People will say he’s a nutjob- but what has he done thats worse then lets say Z-bo or even Rasheed…hes 22- hes 6’10 he can run like a deer, play in ANY offensive scheme and shoot pretty damn good. He’d score 25 points a game easy with Dwill. Im sure now we could find a way to trade for Beasley without giving up our lotto pick and still have cap space for another max contract.
