Sheridan: Williams and Howard On List For 2012 Olympics
It's been reported that USA Basketball will name 18 players later this month to a preliminary roster for the 2012 Olympics in London. But Chris Sheridan reports that the number will actually be 19 (with LaMarcus Aldridge as a late addition).
Sheridan has the full list, which expectedly includes eight of the 12 players from the 2008 Olympic team. Among them are Deron Williams and Dwight Howard. Williams is one of five point guards on the list, with Chauncey Billups, Chris Paul, Derrick Rose and Russell Westbrook being the other four.
The Olympics take place from July 28 to August 12. The final 12-man roster will need to be submitted in mid-June and training camp is expected to open on July 5.

Chauncey Billups over Steph Curry and Rondo?
Really? wow
I’m sure the league doesn’t want to see Curry destroy his ankle going for gold, and on Olympic teams, we like our pg’s to have the capability of hitting a jump shot…consistently (in regards to Rondo).
by JimmyLips on Jan 10, 2012 4:05 PM EST via iPhone app up reply actions
I'm very harsh on Rondo for his lack of shooting.
But he’s a far better PG for an all star team like Team USA than Billups. Rondo doesn’t need to score on team USA, he simply has to set up his superstar teammates and play solid defense.
veteran leadership
Curry has hurt his ankle twice this year.
Had Rondo not got hurt before 2010 games he would be there

he's not going to get invited initially
and unless he bounces back quickly and someone else goes down before the end of the regular season he wont make the roster this year.
especially if Aldridge and Griffin are added to the preliminary roster

LaMarcus Aldridge
Carmelo Anthony
Chauncey Billups
Chris Bosh

Tyson Chandler
Kevin Durant
Eric Gordon

Dwight Howard
Andre Iguodala
LeBron James
Kevin Love
Lamar Odom
Chris Paul
Derrick Rose
Dwyane Wade
Russell Westbrook
Deron Williams
IMO the cut to get 12 out of that list after the ones I’ve already excluded comes down to Aldridge and Love.
Aldridge has a shot over Chandler
He’s good enough to be a backup C
if Odom could play Center next to Kevin Love
just about any NBA big can play center in internationals

yeah, and Team USA committee are simply Nets/Lopez haters, too. Doesn't that suggest Lopez is highly overrated by Nets fans here.
Granted, at least Bynum is not on the list. Otherwise….

Huh.
So they’re going to commit to the same team twice in one summer.
Interesting.

Nah.
Deron will tear up Norris Cole once he gives a damn, Dwight will stop Lebron and destroy Joel Anthony and Dirk will be Dirk.
2 championships for sure.

Why is there no article on this?
Dwight Howard says he doesn’t think he’ll be traded before the all-star game in Orlando on Feb. 26, adding the Magic might not even deal him before the March 15 deadline.
Howard needs new sources.
Owner Rich DeVos and family have given the order: Unless Howard changes his mind, the Magic will deal Dwight and not let him walk like Shaq did 15 years ago.
Besides, there won’t be that many Magic fans attending the all-star game, anyway, not with those prices and the amount of tickets available.
Even though the Lakers are on his list, it is believed that New Jersey is his first choice (big market, no Kobe to share the marquee).
MarShon Brooks has the dreaded.

because we just found it
it was buried (at least earlier) on the Sentinel website.

Need to get Lopez healthy
Need to make Dwill go HAM
Need Avery to make good rotations
Need to play defense

Right now
the Nets offer ORL so much more in terms of rebuilding that LAL.
Picks, cap relief, Lopez, Brooks, etc. It’s not even close.
LAL is not going to trade both Bynum and Pau.
The Nets can definitely offer more pieces in a straight up deal
A lot depends on how much the Magic value Lopez and Bynum.
I'm sure they value Bynum over Lopez
but it only makes them a worse team with zero pieces to rebuild with.
+ Bynum could just walk at the end of next season. Lopez loves Orlando.
Thats true
But I’m not just saying compared to each other. Do they see Lopez as an all-star caliber player or not? Do they view Bynum as the next Howard, or an injury prone player who is just having a good season.
But right now we can't even make a trade
Lopez is not going to be traded when injured. This thing is going to the deadline at minimum.
i woke up from a long nap and
I instinctively went to netsdaily. I read this half awake and I mistook “sheriden” for shelden. I was like how did shelden Williams get on the Olympic list

Odom/Billups = washed up; Aldridge/Love/Westbrook/Gordon = too young; Iggy = odd man out
GUARDS:
Rose
Paul
Williams
Bryant
Wade
FORWARDS:
Bosh
Durant
Griffin
Anthony
James
CENTERS:
Howard
Chandler
Were they saying "Boo" or "Boo-urns?"

And by too young I mean, they'll have their shots at the '14 Worlds & '16 Games
I could see Griffin being replaced by Iggy if they wanna go all vets

For a hot second i thought It read ‘Shelden Williams selected to Olympic team’. At which point I almost threw my cold tea at my brand new monitor. Good thing I read it over a second time.
Since they like to play Melo and Durant at the 4-spot in international play
I’d guess this at the moment -
paul – deron
kobe – wade
lebron – iggy
durant – melo
dwight – bosh
2 Extras – Rose (PG/SG) , Griffin (PF/C). I can’t imagine them being left off the team.
I wouldn’t mind seeing Aldridge over Bosh at backup center , but I would understand with Bosh’s international experience and experience with Wade and Bosh.
