Loyer Could Join Frank in Detroit

John Loyer, who has a reputation as one of the NBA's top assistant coaches, may be headed to Detroit to work with the man who brought him to the Nets three years ago, Lawrence Frank. Colin Stephenson reports that the Nets have given Loyer permission to talk with the Pistons and a decision is expected in the next day or two.

The Nets are also waiting on whether the Timberwolves will hire Sam Mitchell has their head coach and have already lost Larry Krystkowiak to the University of Utah. One possible replacement: P.J. Carlesimo. Stephenson also reports the Nets may have an announcement by week's end on who will be head coach of the Springfield Armor.  Milton Lee, the Armor's GM, has that responsibility.

Tough loss if he goes...

The guy is a class act and a heck of an assistant. Hope he stays but, if Frank brings him on, that is a good set of coaches they have over in Detroit.

sounds like he is gone

Normally you ask for permission after you’ve gotten a tip-off that your intended is interested.

Loyer was hired by Billy King in Philly, I recall. He was paid well, something like $300,000 by the 76ers. Most of his Nets salary was still being paid by the 76ers in his first two years.

And I’m sure your voice sounds like a chorus of angels.
All that matters is being a good basketball coach, something you obviously don’t care much about.

If you want to point at bad coaching, point at Avery Johnson or Sam Mitchell. Avery Johnson had a terrific winning percentage before he came to the Nets, but he also inherited a gifted team led by Dirk Nowitzki, yet couldn’t beat his mentor (Donnie Nelson) who brought an inferior Warriors team against him. Sam Mitchell was the Coach of the Year with the Toronto Raptors, but couldn’t repeat his success.

These are signs of guys who are great motivators but poor strategists.

Not to mention that Avery Johnson signed Travis Outlaw. So you’re really going to say that JON LOYER is the reason for the Nets failures? That’s pretty ignorant.

Hey Randy......

Don’t bother…….“FRANK HAPPENS”………………….Detroit will be terrible and everyone will get blamed except for the Mighty Frank…….

I’ll never lose respect for Frank. The team was hit so hard by injuries buy day in and day out he came to work proudly and inspired his teams who sometimes only 8 players, to play their hearts out. And plus he always had our players’ backs.

this worries me

There’s an old saying
You don’t quit your job, you quit your boss
With the Nets future being so bright and the owner willing to spend $
Why would all of the Nets assistants want to leave?
Is Avery being too much of a control freak?

by DJ HeavyDuty on Sep 6, 2011 5:45 PM EDT reply actions

Krystkowiak left because of the separation from his family

no one has suggested otherwise.

Sam Mitchell wants a head coaching job. Said he hoped the Nets job would lead him back to the big chair on another team’s bench. If he doesn’t get the TWolves job, he will return to the Nets.

PJ Carlesimo wants to return to New Jersey.

Finally, it is a long way back from 12-70.

Is it good to keep Avery for Nets?

I’m not mad, but sometimes I’m worried about him.
We missed Messina because he wants to be a head coach.
Sam Mitchell wants to be a head coach, so he is thinking about moving to Timberwolves.
John Loyer could follow with LFrank.
Krystkowiak and Popeye is already leave.

Now only 2 asst coaches, Barrise and Overton, would be stay.
And just PJ wants to come to the Nets.
Is it good to keep Avery with HC with these asst coaches?

1 - D. Williams / J. Farmar / S. Gaines / B. Uzoh
2 - A. Morrow / S. Graham / M. Brooks
3 - T. Outlaw / D.James
4 - K. Humpries / D. Gadzuric / B. Wright / J. Williams
5 - B. Lopez / J. Petro

We can get Phil to have a sit down with Proky. Phil did say he would like to have a vodka with Proky

What is Buldenholzer doing??

Rick Mahorn can teach Lopez some dirty tricks under the boards.

Just Joking….I wouldn’t mind Bill Lambier though……

Loyer is a terrific assistant, and a great guy

Wish we could keep him, but it looks like he’s leaving. Reminds me when Hill left.

I expect P.J. Carlesimo to return to the Jersey area, and once Sam Mitchell goes to Minny (Rick Adelman doesn’t look like the favorite anymore), the Nets have to snatch up Buldenhozer from San An like power said. Very good defensive assistant for a franchise heralded for years for having great defense. Not sure who could replace Larry. Maybe Elston Turner from Houston.
