Amnesty Clause

Look what I found

NEW JERSEY NETS

Abrams: Travis Outlaw. One of last summer's questionable signings (five years, $35 million) that became worse as the season dragged along.

Simmons: Here's why we're having a lockout — because teams are so effing stupid that they actually need to waive guys they just signed a year ago. There should be bonus amnesty points for being total morons. The Nets should get to wipe twice the amount of Outlaw's contract off their cap, like how disabled people get to park in disabled-person spaces.

LOL

Any way, the two guys check on every single team and see who needs to be cut for ridiculous contracts. Some of you may have seen this but whatever. I found it interesting. Do you think we should pick up any of the players who would be cut (it there is an amnesty clause) by other teams? Obviously they would be paid less. They say the Spurs should dump Richard Jefferson, i don't think they would. If they do, do you think we should pick him up? He'll obviously be an improvement over Outlaw. I know I'm not really going in-depth here but I feel like this could be a topic if the Amnesty clause ever happens because those may be free agents that we could pick up.

I also happen to have a question, can one team use the Amnesty Clause on a player and then pick him up again with a smaller salary? Is that possible?
