Jay-Z To Announce Name Change, Concerts as The Face of Barclays
The Nets have chosen native son Jay-Z, aka Shawn Carter, to announce the team's new name and what his role will be in the three-week long grand opening that starts a year from Wednesday at the Barclays Center, the Post and Daily News report. The press conference begins at 10:00 Monday and will be live streamed on the Nets and Barclays Center sites.
The Post also reports that the rapper turned entrepreneur will in be the face of the arena as it tries to sell the big ticket seating plans and to show the arena is not just basketball. "There will be great concerts and other entertainment -- so who better to deliver that message than the world’s No. 1 entertainer, Jay-Z?" said Brett Yormark. A photo of Jay-Z and an arena rendering will accompany a slogan: "Get all access to Jay-Z and other events at the Barclays Center." The slogan will appear on 150 taxi tops, 60 telephone kiosks and 250,000 coffee cups to be distributed to local stores.
The News says Jay-Z will headline eight days of concerts at the arena starting September 28, 2012. The lineup is not yet set but Beyonce' who's due to give birth to the couple's first child this spring will be among them. The eight days will be open a three week celebration featuring a variety of acts that will fill the arena in the future.

Is it officially a "name change" at this point?
Or is that how they’re describing this two year long process of relocating the franchise to Brooklyn?
Does location change = name change?
thats what i want to know

I wonder who the 1st rock act will be.
Coldplay?
The Stones?
Maybe get an Ozzfest?
RATM reunion?
Red Hot Chili peppers just recorded.
You know if GAGA who I think sucks is still hot she will be there.
Damn Jayz should do the Linkin Park mashup live. I don’t think its ever been performed since the recording.

Yormark Time
We are now entering the world of Yormark. He lives for this stuff.
It’ll be especially challenging to promote the Brooklyn Nets future without any players + during this lockout. I imagine DWill, Brook and others would’ve been there today under normal circumstances.

omg they listed Bruce Ratner
as the Nets owner…….
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
It will be so anticlimactic if he simply announces
Brooklyn Nets!
“We’re changing the name when we move from NJ to Brooklyn from ‘NJ Nets’ to…”
*lengthy drum roll
“Brooklyn Nets!”
Wow, I never saw THAT coming
Can you guys live blog the events here?
can’t watch this at work. thanks.
2010-2011 = acquire an All-Star via cap space as Thorn himself said
2011-2012 = make the playoffs without hindering future flexibility
2012 off-season = sign the second All-Star
2012-2013 = make a run for the championship
Mission accomplished thus far.
Watch it on here. It's the Barclays Center facebook page

I'll say this
if it’s NOT “Brooklyn Nets,” it’s probably the best kept secret in NBA history. Remember how the Thunder’s name and logo were leaked weeks before their announcement?
"Rooting for the Yankees is like rooting for Steve Jobs to win the lotto." - Chris Rock
The NBA - Where 2012 doesn't happen
Patrick Ewing - The NBA's all-time leader in rushing yards
and if it is
it’s probably the worst
"Rooting for the Yankees is like rooting for Steve Jobs to win the lotto." - Chris Rock
The NBA - Where 2012 doesn't happen
Patrick Ewing - The NBA's all-time leader in rushing yards
1 and 174,462,352.62
I am very good at math.

WHat is this "Major Announcement"? Everyone knew it was gonna be the Brooklyn Nets?
They better announce the colors, logo, or jersey.

Don't they have a better highlight to show on Fox than
Tasha driving in for the layup.

Congrats
You guys deserve the three weeks to celebrate Brooklyn and the stability it will provide to your francise. Maybe I’ll stop by during it if an Islanders preseason game takes place there.

Lost cause
Jay-Z has to understand that most long time Knicks will never convert to the Nets even with them there. Does he really think that they will just switch teams that easily? If any do convert, they will be a small number compared to those that will remain loyal. In reality, most will not abandon their team just because they had a number of losing seasons, which explains why I still root for teams such as the Nets and Mets rather than just jumping ship. Also, those that root for a team only when they are finally doing good, but never were there before are nothing but bandwagoners, and they will probably abandon the team once they do bad again. In the end, if Jay-Z can’t get many long time Knicks fans in Brooklyn to root for the Nets, don’t even bother trying for any other borough. Overall, the Knicks have always been seen as the team of the city and always will be no matter what.
Im sorry
who is the one fighting for a lost cause????
I think it's fine.
