Jay-Z Making "Major Announcement" On Barclays Center, Nets Monday
The Nets have just announced that Jay-Z --who they describe as a "cultural icon"-- will make "significant announcements regarding The Barclays Center of Brooklyn and the borough's future NBA team" Monday morning at a special press conference opposite the arena.
The announcement will be attended by Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz, Bruce Ratner and Brett Yormark, among others.
Jay-Z, aka Shawn Carter, has long been expected to open Barclays Center September 28 of next year. The event on the Atlantic Terminal plaza is also likely timed to start an Opening Night Countdown now that the arena is a year away.
Although the rapper turned entrepreneur is a very small stockholder in the Nets and Barclays, he has become a creative consultant for the team, involved in the design of lounge spaces at the arena as well as the team's uniform design and colors. His ad agency, Translation, has the contract for the Nets' transition from New Jersey to Brooklyn.

Okay
The second richest rapper on earth and one half of music’s most powerful couple is a has been.
I think it's fine.

Second Richest?
My man, you need to do some research. There is NO ONE as big as Jay- Z in hiphop and he has the highest net worth of any rapper. 600 million dollar net worth.
Welcome to Nets City
No.
Forbes recently came out with a list, Diddy is the only one with a net worth higher than Mr. Carter.
http://www.therichest.org/entertainment/forbes-richest-rappers-2011/
I think it's fine.

If you want to argue semantics
everyone knows Diddy is no where near as as good of a rapper as Jay-Z is.
Diddy made most of his money in business/tv. Jay-Z has made way more on record sales.
So if you ask me, Jay-z is the richest rapper.
Diddy is the richest man who has rapped.
Brook-Brooks-Brookyln
LET'S DO THIS!
Obviously Jay is the better rapper.
Both made it in the same business, but all of Diddy’s assets are greater than Jay’s according to Forbes. Sean John, Ciroc, Bad Boy Records, and a restaurant chain >>> Rocawear, Roc-A-Fella Records, Roc Nation, and 40/40 club. But then again, combine Jay’s wealth with his wife and then it is not even close. Beyonce is worth almost 300 million.
I think it's fine.

Another category to consider is biggest rapper, as in entertainer
Will Smith has been a resounding success in three entertainment avenues — music, tv and film. The guys on that Forbes list got their money via music and tie-ins stemming from their music (e.g. clothing lines affiliated with their musical identities). Will Smith has been a success in three entertainment outlets irrespective of each other. Jay-Z will never be a successful actor and probably will never even lead a successful narrative tv show.
So if that’s what 3-point chucker meant by “has been,” he’s correct in that Jay-Z is not a triple threat in nearly all avenues of entertainment like Will Smith. Will has the versatility to do it all. And in this new era of entertainment, to be a triple threat (or more) is the key. Heck, Beyonce Knowles-Carter has more of that versatile entertainment quotient than her husband. In that sense, Jay-Z is the lesser component in the marriage.
2010-2011 = acquire an All-Star via cap space as Thorn himself said
2011-2012 = make the playoffs without hindering future flexibility
2012 off-season = sign the second All-Star
2012-2013 = make a run for the championship
Mission accomplished thus far.
Jay-Z's influence alone makes him more powerful than Will Smith and Beyonce combined
If he talks about it, everybody buys it. That’s just really all there is to it.

"Your 2010-2011 New Jersey Nets - It Is What It Is"
But you are not speaking to my point
Will is a more versatile entertainer — his influence/power is more dispersed across the entertainment outlets and as a result, he has more entertainment avenues that he can dip his toes into. That’s all I was addressing — versatility.
It even could be argued that if Shawn were to stop making music, his influence would diminish, because due to certain factors (including materialistic ones, such as looks) he won’t be able to directly branch into other entertainment outlets the way Will can. That’s probably why Shawn is unable to retire from music, even though he’s tried.
I respect what you’re saying, but I’m speaking to something different.

I figure at the very least he will be announcing that he will open it up with a concert.
But that is already expected. At most he might announce that Brooklyn Nets is definitely the name, maybe if we are super lucky we can see what the unis will look like. Probably not, though.
I think it's fine.
Only way that it will be celeb filled is if we have Deron and hopefully another star with a "D" name.

Brooklyn Nets, Jay opening it with a concert..not expecting the unis
Nets are going to space out these type of things…give it a couple more months, and they will officially show the public the new unis. keep the buzz going better that way.
this, of course, is all my estimated guess ;)
FYI, you can watch it live
But you need to register at barclayscenter.com
Thank you for registering. You will receive an e-mail Monday morning at 6:00AM with details on viewing the Barclays Center and NETS Basketball announcement. We are excited that you will be a part of this special announcement which will kick off the countdown to the opening of the arena in September 2012.
Sincerely,

Rapper's do indeed get a major pass in our society
And that definitely includes Jay-Z as well. Jay-Z however gives the nets ‘street cred’ in moving to BK and Jigga in turn can say that he – technically speaking – is an NBA owner making major decisions in what many hope to be a premiere franchise in the future. However, I must say I find this PSA by Jigga and Russell Simmons somewhat ironic: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j0VRp-ZcVJ8

No, he did 1 thing right
He sodl the freaking team and went back to running his own company, which if im not mistaken, has some connection to the new arena that’s being built.

A cheap b**tard that didn’t do much, or anything at all. Its true he HELPED with the Brooklyn move, but many politicans were for it, but it was tough for everything to get started because everyone didnt want to move out of the area where the arena was being built. He was a horrible owner, that messed up the freaking team and them sold the crappy team along with millions in debt to Proky.

My prediction on the announcement:
Mikhail Prokhorov is selling the Nets to Jay Z. Jay Z is taking out a loan on his Home Equity line of credit to finance the move. The team is changing its name from the Nets to the Brooklyns. Jay Z will play a concert at Barclay’s for every day of its first year. Ben Uzoh has broken his contract with his Russian squad with a promise from Avery Johnson that he’ll be in the starting line-up. D-will from here on out will play for the Springfield Armor.
Did I miss anything?
Oh yeah. Travis Outlaw is actually a crab with plans of world domination.

Because they wont show the Brooklyn unis until they are sure there wont be a season.
It’s just an assumption but why would they market Brooklyn when they are still hoping to sell some New Jersey merchandise? Plus, would they be announcing a Live Nation partnership and new uniforms and a Jay-Z concert all at once?

I don't see the point of just announcing the name though...
…especially if its just the Brooklyn Nets, since they’ve been calling it that forever. If they want to use this opportunity to start marketing them, might as well establish a brand that they could use in the marketing.
besides it would be hard to have a press conference
to reveal a name without a logo

How you can find out
Either you look up his email address, which even I don’t know, or you find events based on this project that he will probably show up at, and yes he still does show up at them despite no longer living where he did originally. However, I did hear that the Battle for Brooklyn is comming back to the Brooklyn Heights Cinema next month, and there is a good chance he will be there for taking questions, so that is a good oppurtunity to speak to him, especially if you have something only he can answer. For the record, I do not speak for him for I am not his secretary nor do I represent him in any way or form. Anything you have to say to him, speak to him yourself.

not to mention

Even funnier
is that Goldstein probably didn’t know the Nets even existed before the idea of an arena in Brooklyn came up. As if he knows what type of team the Nets are.

Same back at you
Whatever you say about Oder being predictable, I can say the same back at you. At least Oder does research, which makes what he says more believable. Numerous times, I have asked you to prove him wrong, and you have never shown anything disproving his statements. Instead, you resorted to taking jabs at him. If you have nothing to rebuttal, then just say it, which I find is more mature than acting so bent out of shape. As for DG with his knowledge about the Nets, he actually did hear a rumor about them comming to Brooklyn, but at the time he bought his condo, the location wasn’t specific. Just like Rosa Parks, he didn’t buy there to make a statement, he did it because he was looking for a good place to live, and that place had a good deal for him sort of like how Parks didn’t want to give up her seat on the bus because she was tired and had a very long day. In all honesty, I think Jay-Z should stay out of being a businessman, because he is probably not good at it. Afterall, he had a huge failure at trying to get a hotel in the Meatpacking District, which shows how unsuccessfull at it.
