Mitchell Looks Like Favorite in Minnesota, Opening Door for P.J

Stay connected for news and updates

With interviews for the head coaching job complete in Minnesota, reports indicate that Sam Mitchell is now the favorite for the job.  Avery Johnson's lead assistant interviewed for the job earlier in the week and appeared confident afterwards. The Wolves' owner, Glen Taylor, conducted the interview. He's a big Mitchell fan.

As reported by Adrian Wojnarowski on Thursday, P.J. Carlesimo is a "strong candidate" to replace him. Carlesimo is a  Spurs assistant and former head coach of the Warriors, Thunder and Seton Hall's 1989 national championship runner-up. It's uncertain whether Carlesimo has been formally interviewed.

Word is that if Mitchell doesn't get the Minnesota job, he will return to the Nets.
