Gaines Honors Memory of Friend Who Died Too Young

Stay connected for news and updates

Sundiata Gaines was at a park in Jamaica, Queens, Saturday to honor a friend who he played ball with growing up.  Both had hopes of making it to the NBA.  Gaines did but his friend, Sherrod Robertson, died at 25 last August, the victim of brain cancer.  Saturday, he was at the park where they played pick-up to help with a new charity.

Robertson's mother, Alfredia Sales-Fairnot organized a fundraising barbeque and basketball tournament to celebrate the life of her son. Gaines, still recuperating from a fractured hip, was there not to play but share memories with Robertson's family, including his young son.
