SportsPro Magazine, the London-based international sports business publication, has named the Barclays Center as one of "the 10 most important new venues in the world over the next decade".
SportsPro says Barclays "might be the most ambitious and aesthetically pleasing indoor arena ever constructed in the United States". In a bit of hyperbole, Bruce Ratner claims, "You’ve probably got 12 million people within 45 minutes."
Among the others on the list are the 2012 Olympic Stadium in London; the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympic Stadium in Sochi, Russia; and the New Corinthians Stadium in Sao Paulo, home of the 2014 World Cup. There are two U.S. venues on the list: Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, whose environmental remake is scheduled to be completed this fall, and Farmer's Field, the planned NFL venue in Los Angeles which is still on the drawing boards.
