Sam Mitchell on T-Wolves' List?

The Timberwolves haven't finished dumping Kurt Rambis as their coach, but already speculation is on the rise over who GM David Kahn will pick as his replacement. The Minneapolis Star-Tribune reports Sam Mitchell, a former Timberwolve and Avery Johnson's lead assistant has to be on the list.

Mitchell was NBA coach of the year in 2007 while with the Raptors, a nice calling card but not as big as his experience playing in Minnesota. "There's a connection to owner Glen Taylor there because, of course, Mitchell once played for the Wolves," writes Jerry Zgoda. Zgoda doesn't think Mitchell will ultimately get the job but will have to be considered. Late Tuesday, Adrian Wojnarowski tweeted that "Minnesota fan favorite Sam Mitchell isn’t on Kahn’s list of potential candidates for coaching job, league sources say.'

Rambis

was a moron for trying to run the triangle in Minnesota.

He was trying to show the Lakers he can coach too

by DJ HeavyDuty on Jul 12, 2011 8:29 AM EDT up reply actions

except he couldnt coach in LA either

he was charge of the defense in LA and they had some of the worst defenses while coached by him

then he goes to minnesota using the same principles with even worse defenders than the pre-gasol lakers

and minnesota had been dead last in defense for at least the last two or three years

it wasnt the offense because it takes some time to run it right but minnesota could score even running it flawed it was always his defense that always left shooters wide open on the wing and corner

for the record

I am 7-1 as a basketball coach and I would be glad to fill Mitchel or Krystowiaks place for around 100k.
I would like to see Rick Adelman on the staff

Assistant coaches and D-league

Hey guys any updates on who we are adding to the coaching staff and D-league head coach?

Worst run team in the league!

The Twolves are the worst team in the league. They have been dragging along Kurt for months now. Is he in, or is he out. It is a shame, since Rambis is a nice guy and deserves better. Maybe the wolves are stupid enough to ship Mr. Beasley to NJ. I’d trade a #1 fro him in a heartbeat. With DWILL feeding him the ball, he is easily a 20 point scorer at the 3.
Please TWOLVES, fire this poor guy already.

The top half of our coaching staff blows.

nba coach of the year is the most overrated award

guys that take a perennial loser against all odds and make a shocking playoff run or even a dominant regular season automatically get the award even though most times than not its the franchise player having a once-in-a-lifetime season and should be the MVP

so many coaches fired within 2-3 years after winning it:
mike brown w/ cleveland
sam mitchell w/ toronto
byron scott w/ new orleans
avery johnson w/ dallas
rick carlisle w/ detroit
doc rivers w/ orlando
mike dunleavy w/ portland
del harris w/ LA
don nelson w/ GSW

no love anymore for the consistent coaches that get it done. the fact that phil jackson and jerry sloan have 1 combined award between them it absurd. back in the day riley, nelson, hubie, fitch, fitzsimmons all were rewarded for being good and consistent

rick was let go because of larry brown not because he did bad

they felt they had a better chance at the title with larry brown

by SunilP on Jul 12, 2011 8:45 PM EDT up reply actions

no because he could not get detroit to the finals

and again in larry browns season the only difference in the rosters was getting rasheed in mid-season

i’m pretty sure rick carlisle could have won the tilte with rasheed as well

because if they really wanted larry brown then he wouldnt have left for new york the next season

Has Mitchell been released from the Nets?

Wolves would be lucky to get him. I don’t think even Lawrence Frank would accept Minny. position.
Nets should take back Beasley for a future draft pick as a condition. Maybe trade rights to Bojan.
Beasley might compete with Marshon for most shots per minute, however.

Maybe Wolves would be stupid enough to take back Petro?

DWill should be more likely to re-sign with Beasley at SF.

by jerry25 on Jul 12, 2011 1:24 PM EDT reply actions

no

he did spend a lot of the spring in Canada pushing the National Basketball League of Canada, leading to some speculation he’d be an ideal candidate for commissioner of the new league.

IF the Wolves wanted him and he was still under contract to the Nets, the Nets would have the option of demanding a draft pick in return. Doesn’t always happen. Some teams don’t demand it, instead thinking good will more valuable.

Would you guys bring back L-frank as an assistant?

Sure Would, but

Lil Lawrence’s big Irish head would explode at the inanity of Avery’s coaching “techniques.”
It would be both sad and gross to watch.

by Jron on Jul 12, 2011 3:08 PM EDT up reply actions

That would have been great

But Avery is ok on the D, we need someone who can teach offense. Avery is lost on offense, his ideas sound good on paper but doesn’t translate.

Yeah

Seems last years coaching staff was filled with a bunch of defensive coaches.

HELL NO

Keep him far away from this organization forever. We already have a small stature coach who yells and at least he has a drawl and PLAYED ORGANIZED BASKETBALL.
