The Timberwolves haven't finished dumping Kurt Rambis as their coach, but already speculation is on the rise over who GM David Kahn will pick as his replacement. The Minneapolis Star-Tribune reports Sam Mitchell, a former Timberwolve and Avery Johnson's lead assistant has to be on the list.
Mitchell was NBA coach of the year in 2007 while with the Raptors, a nice calling card but not as big as his experience playing in Minnesota. "There's a connection to owner Glen Taylor there because, of course, Mitchell once played for the Wolves," writes Jerry Zgoda. Zgoda doesn't think Mitchell will ultimately get the job but will have to be considered. Late Tuesday, Adrian Wojnarowski tweeted that "Minnesota fan favorite Sam Mitchell isn’t on Kahn’s list of potential candidates for coaching job, league sources say.'
