Monta Ellis for Iggy

If this goes down we can forget about Thad Young, cause the Sixers for sure will match any offer!!!

They will need to lock up their small forward situation for years to come, and who better than their young home grown product?  That also knocks 2 potential players to trade for that had been discussed on this site......this is further proof that we dont have the goods to get a deal done for guys like that......since lopez would only be used in a potential DH12 deal.

Many on this board will feel like this is a blessing, while others will be extremely dissapointed.......what's your take?

Lets go after Marcus “Buckets” Thornton.

I want the Nets to call up GS

and see what it would take to get Ellis. I thought they could get more than Iggy and his monsterous contract.

by NetsKiNG on Jun 7, 2011 1:28 PM EDT reply actions

No chance. The Warriors want a deal done before, NOT AFTER, July 1 and you can’t trade players on another team.

by diehardNFFLbarnone on Jun 7, 2011 3:22 PM EDT up reply actions

Really? I strongly disagree.

I think this news is good for the Nets for two reasons.

First, as you noted, if the Sixers were to trade Iguodala they would likely look to retain Thaddeus Young. That would save the Nets from making a mistake and overpaying a player who doesn’t have a real position and is better suited to play in a system similar to that Sixers’. Will he be able to produce as effectively in a half-court system? I’m of the opinion that he won’t.

Second, it makes the Sixers a worse team. Iguodala’s production is severely overlooked; he’s one of the league’s best perimeter defenders, he’s extremely versatile, he’s unselfish and he’s a perfect fit for the Sixers’ system. Ellis isn’t a bad player, by any means, but he’s a ball-stopper. Ellis is an inefficient scorer, he’s undersized, he has tunnel-vision and he’s a poor defender. Maybe his bad habits result from playing in the Warriors’ system, but I don’t see him as a player whose style is conducive to winning.

I think the Sixers should look to trade Iguodala to the Clippers for Kaman and Aminu. We’ll see what happens.

Agree w/ your points

re: Young and Philly getting worse…

But god damit I want some scorers..Billy should at least call and see what it would take.

by NetsKiNG on Jun 7, 2011 1:55 PM EDT up reply actions

i agree with point 1 but not point 2

i think adding Monta would make the 6ers a more balanced and better team

Philly is lacking a true go to scorer which they would have in Monta

by mikeyexcel201 on Jun 7, 2011 6:46 PM EDT up reply actions

If this happens

I love it for the W’s.
Not sure how Monta fits with Philly. That’s a strange roster.

by shane gayle on Jun 7, 2011 1:42 PM EDT reply actions

Wow, Warriors fans really don't want Monta back.

In a poll on their site, it’s a pretty clear margin of victory

by Anthony Perez on Jun 7, 2011 1:52 PM EDT reply actions

I think they just want Iggy

He can bring some defense to their team and compliments Curry better.

by fumblesnout on Jun 7, 2011 2:21 PM EDT up reply actions

Not surprised

that would be a great trade for them.

by Andres B on Jun 7, 2011 3:36 PM EDT up reply actions

They dont want him because they watched him his entire career

and know’s he’s just a chuck. Give any player 20 FGA per game and see how much they can score. And then people on this board is calling Iguodala good? In which league? The guy can barelly lead a team, and hasn’t proven anything. I thought when Iverson got traded off that team Idudola would become a star….instead he stayed almost the same way.

I think its great trade for both teams, Ellis doesn’t fit in with Curry, and the sixers will more scoring, and thats a good back court with Holiday and Ellis

by mjf900 on Jun 7, 2011 2:02 PM EDT reply actions

great trade for the warriors.

Curry/Iggy/Wright/Lee/Biedrins is a solid all round team.

I’ve always wanted Iggy on the Nets but oh well.

I'd rather take a chance at Thornton. He can possibly turn out to be a decent defender, and he'll be cheaper.

That backcourt is a bit small

Monta is 6’3 with a wingspan of 6’3. And Holiday isn’t big enough where he can switch over to guard the SGs.

by fumblesnout on Jun 7, 2011 2:22 PM EDT up reply actions

This would be an excellent trade for the Warriors. They would be a “real” team.

by SadNetsFan on Jun 7, 2011 2:27 PM EDT reply actions

It think this works for both teams

The open up a spot for Young or Turner.

That said. I wonder if we can get involved some how.

Since they might need some veteran help at the SF, We can send Thorn his crap(outlaw) and Farmar/Petro for a combination of Williams, Nocioni and/or Capono. I would even give him a second for that.

by SIC One on Jun 7, 2011 2:48 PM EDT reply actions

The Sixers do need to open up a roster spot. They have Turner (a #2 pick…you can’t give up on a #2 pick that quickly), Young (who is extremely important to what they do) and Iggy…the problem is that Iggy is the best defender on the team, and maybe the best perimeter defender in the league…why give him up for Monta Ellis? Are they trying to recreate the magic from the old McDonald’s All American games where Monta and Lou Williams were considered stars? Why don’t they just draft Selby and have a whole crew of undersized shooting guards who can’t pass?

This would be a fantastic trade for GS though. They believe Curry has Steve Nash ability, and with Iggy and Udoh on the team, they can hide his undersized body on D. If they drafted Alec Burks, and got something for David Lee or Andris Biedrins (and I believe both have value in the league) they could have a legitimate team.

Curry
Burks
Iggy
DLee
Udoh (or Biedrins, or Udoh at PF and Biedrins at C…whatever)

and they have a nice bench…that is a fun team that can also play D.

Again though…why are the Sixers considering this at all?

by SadNetsFan on Jun 7, 2011 3:36 PM EDT reply actions

Ellis is a terrible fit IMO

He’d take importance and touches away from Holiday in the backcourt and you’d have to play Turner at the 3… ET needs the ball in his hands, so Ellis ain’t a good fit next to him. Someone like say Kevin Martin would make a lot more sense for Philly.

by Andres B on Jun 7, 2011 3:58 PM EDT up reply actions

Philly should really just be banking on Jrue Holiday maturing. I know I’ll get flack for this but he could be one of the best PGs in the league down the line (especially defensively). Iggy works well there if he doesn’t have to carry the offense. I don’t know a team that Evan Turner really fits on as long as he is playing point forward…the guy has to learn to play off the ball. But Monta…he doesn’t help at all.

If Philly had

Holiday-Martin-Iggy, then that is a pretty cool lineup IMO.

by SadNetsFan on Jun 7, 2011 4:06 PM EDT up reply actions

Completely agree on Jrue

Hes got potential to be an all star type pg.

But I also understand dealing iggy. Hes paid like a #1, but hes a #2 or a #3 on a championship level team.

by O Dog on Jun 7, 2011 4:29 PM EDT up reply actions

But his salary is close enough to Ellis that they can be dealt straight up for one another. I understand what you are saying. Iggy is paid too much, and the Sixers don’t really have a shot at the title (or even legitimate contending) unless they bring in a star to let Iggy be Pippen (because we all know Iggy is no superstar, especially on offense), but trading for Ellis definitely isn’t the way to go.

Again though, I understand dealing Iggy…it’s too bad this Philly team isn’t in Mia, LA or NY…they would be a perfect destination for a star.

by SadNetsFan on Jun 7, 2011 4:35 PM EDT up reply actions

I think they are more than ready to deal Iggy

He had issues with Collins. Not happy about his role.

The issue with him that I have, is he really has never improved. He still doesnt have a jump shot, he still cant take over games in the 4th quarter. He still makes bad decisions at the wrong times.

He also needs the ball in his hands to be most effective but to be honest Philly needs to move forward with Holiday having the ball in his hands. I think hes ready to take the next step. Not sure why they want Ellis. They are better off getting a big. But they do lack offense- no true go to guy on that squad.

I would LOVE to get Monta on a division rival.

Especially if it means they’re giving up Iggy. Even better when it’ll stunt the growth of the division rival’s young point guard and #2 pick.

The 76ers can move him to the 3spot and still make Young available. ehh.. idk :/

Great trade for Philly

Iggy is overrated. Not worth the money he makes. Paid like a super star but plays like an average starter. Sure he has great defense but his overall game and production is overrated. There was a time when he was a super star and sadly that has passed. Its odd because hes not past him prime in regards to age as a professional basketball player…. close though.

When i think of iggy i picture the sorry face he made when Devin Harris hit that half court shot going out of bounds in his face to win the game. hahaha

by breaking20 on Jun 8, 2011 12:27 AM EDT reply actions

In what Universe is Iggy Overrated?

He’s All NBA Defense Second Team behind Kobe Bryant, and it’s probably a matter of seniority at this point. He holds opposing 3’s to a 10.4 PER. That’s insane. If that weren’t enough, he averages like 6 assists and 6 rebounds per game.

He’s not an elite scorer. So what? He doesn’t really turn the ball over that often and he can check the league’s premiere wings.

Monta Ellis? He shoots it a lot. Some nights it goes in, some nights it doesn’t. He’s an indifferent defender, he turns the ball over more than Iguodala, and a lower percentage of his possessions end in assists. He just shoots it, a lot.

This is a salary dump for Philadelphia because they’re about to be sold. It’s really unfortunate because they’re on the cusp of taking a jump to the next level.
