Remembering the D-Will Trade
From a 12-70 season to almost having Carmelo Anthony in the bag. For weeks, I had been telling everyone "CARMELO TO THE NETS BABY." But all of a sudden things changed, the excitement turned into a deep sadness. All hope was lost the night that the Espn reported that Carmelo was traded to the Knicks. My facebook wall was being annihilated by some of my Knick Friends. I walked into school the next morning trying to talk about anything but basketball. But at 11am, someone finally brought up the Knicks and Carmelo. The conversation went on and on about how the Knicks will win a championchip with Chris Paul, Melo, and Amare next year. I didn't even bother to counter their overoptimistic beliefs. A few minutes later, I checked my netsdaily on my blackberry...NETS GET DERON WILLIAMS! ... I remember my mind going blank for a few minutes.. Thats how happy I was. I was jumping up for joy and I ran out of my class and into the hallways screaming NETS GOT DWILL BABY!!!!! The Vice Principal found my shortly and i got a two hour Saturday Detention. But it was all worth it..
Anyways.. How did you react? Who was the first person you told about the trade? Where were you? What were your feelings?
In D-Will, We Trust =)

WHEN YOU DESCRIBE the prototypical NBA center, he is not complete without superlative size, strength and athleticism. He’ll fight for the tough rebounds in the trenches, but is just as quick to burn you with a shot from 15 feet.
Johan Petro possesses all of these skills and more, and at a mere 23 years of age, he bears all the promise of fulfilling his vast potential.
I was in California on vacation
The night Melo was traded to the Knicks and was absolutely bombarded with texts by my Knicks fan friends. I went to sleep that night completely depressed and trying to come to terms with the idea of trading Harris for either Dominique Jones or Greg Oden. I woke up that Wednesday in my hotel room and checked Netsdaily to see what scrub we traded Harris for. Nothing. I turned on sportscenter and watched for like 5 minutes until Chris Broussard came up and said there was a blockbuster trade in the works. The moment he said the Nets were close to a deal for Deron Williams I checked Netsdaily again and saw “NETS GET DERON WILLIAMS!” I’ve never gone from depressed to that happy in my life. I texted all my Knicks fan friends and we got into a few Deron vs Melo debates. I miss that day, hopefully its like that if we get Howard.

When you say "hopefully its like that if we get Howard"
How so? Cause if it was like that, Howard would go to Lakers we’d all be crushed and we get someone just as good?
Hopefully we get him this offseason.

Yea sorry
I just meant I hope we get Howard so we could be that happy again. I worded that wrong

I woke up late and checked Netsdaily
And I was jumping for joy after I heard we got him, and I couldn’t believe it. I mean neither could Williams and I cant blame him, but as a Nets fan, Im glad we got him.
"Most people on this board are like a broken clock, Only right two times a day"
Nets got him at 10:20AM
and you said you woke up late?
I was looking at yahoo sports, reading the details of the Melo deal, hit the back button, refreshed to see if there were any other deals(due to the fact it was the day before TD) deals and say BREAKING NEWS: DERON WILLIAMS TRADED
first thought damn “why would Utah trade him” second thought “bet you Nets didn’t get him” and third “Who could’ve been the lucky team who got him”.
Refreshed after 3 Minutes, and it said Utah send Deron Williams to Nets. After 10 Minutes Woj gave more details.
"I think I’m the best point guard in the league. No reason. I just think I’m the best.’’-Deron Williams.
Sorry about that 11:30AM

Yea, well I usually wake up 6:30
But its all good whether its 10:20am or 11:30am

saw a "breaking news" alert on nba.com
i was shocked and ran up and down my stairs 20 times after staring at the screen for the precious hour. i was shocked and i still wake up in the mornings in disbelief sometimes- but im so damn happy it happened.
DWill Era- 7-18
I was obsessed that week. I’ m in law school, and I was in charge of sitting outside on campus answering questions, etc. It was early in the morning, so there was no one around, and I just kept refreshing Twitter. My friend was doing the same (Knicks fan) and he actually saw it before me. He text “DERON?” and then I saw it. Almost fainted. Forgot all about my responsibilities, did a fast-walking lap around the law school talking to my Dad on the phone. Ecstatic.
All day my friend was bugging me about how they got Melo and how the Nets would never get anyone
School ends, my friend (Mavs fan) runs up to me and yells “YOU GOT DERON WILLIAMS!” i couldnt believe it. I thought he mightve been lying but he was so ecstatic that i could tell he wasn’t. Checked first thing when I got home to make sure and was reading about it ALL week from different articles.
Brook Lopez is the MAN!
walked out of second period geometry class
heard the word deron williams being spoken around the halls, asked someone what was up, and when they said deron was a net, i didn’t believe it. i then checked netsdaily, and there it was, in big letters. i was so happy that i grinned for a solid two hours, and then rubbed it in everyone’s faces. ahhh, great moments
I’ll never forget. My social studies teacher and i always argue about the Knicks and Nets.
One day we were in the library and he said"Hey, Net fan, you got your man, Deron Williams"
I ran to the computer from which he was reading and started screaming. I left the class in such joy and excitement and ran down the end of the hallway just yelling in disbelief. A great feeling that i’ll never forget!

i was getting a haircut when the barber was signing for packages and i checked netsdaily and i almost jumped up and yelled. my barber was talking smack to me as soon as i walked in, so it felt so good to shove the dwill trade in his face along with all my other knicks friend. all they could say was that he was gonna leave and come to the knicks or that hes just not gonna show up etc u know knicks fan they live in another reality
I was ecstatic
I had winter break so I was chillin in my room with espn on. I was on the computer and eating breakfast, not really paying attention to the tv. Netsdaily didn’t seem to work, it was early in the morning. I took an occasional peak at the tv and out of the corner of my eye I saw highlights of Dwill with a caption saying he had been traded to the nets. I instantly jumped on my bed with my eyes completely focused on the tv. At first my mind was blank with happiness so I didn’t celebrate right away. Then I analyzed the situation to make sure that it wasn’t bs. As soon as i stopped staring in amazement, i jumped up and started yelling, running, and fist pumping. The timing of it was incredible too. It saved me from being bashed by all these knicks fans, and brought hope to this franchise. Just like that quote “the darkest hour comes just before the dawn”, it was pretty bad missing out on melo, but getting Dwill the next day was amazing.
I was sitting in Ornithology
and my brother texted me, “Did we just get Deron Williams?”. Having been in class and with no motivation to check any basketball news that morning thanks to the Melo trade, I texted back “Where the f**k did you hear that?”. I absolutely did no believe it at all. When class let out I decided to check ND and lo and behold saw the headline. I immediately texted my brother back with “WE JUST GOT DERON WILLIAMS”. I was seriously considering jumping for joy on my way to grab lunch, but I resisted.
Funny too because the night before I actually prayed for Amare to blow his knee out. I didn’t think there was any way we would recoup, and I thought for sure we’d be #2 in the area for the next half decade or so. I’m sure I’ll get flack for that, but hey that day SUCKED and I was desperate. Guess my prayers were answered in a different way.

I was in my dorm...
…the night before when Melo got officially traded to the Knicks. I knew he was going there, the writing was on the wall for days at that point. But needless to say, I was depressed. The only thing I could do to get my mind off of the Nets and the terrible prospects for the future was finding solace in 2k11 (which I hate). I did a few rumored Nets trades and tried facing the Knicks. I traded Murphy for Wright + Gadzuric, and then traded Harris for Ray Felton and Mozgov (remember picks for Knicks?). It was an awful night.
I woke up at about 1pm the next day. I’m not sure if it was a Monday, Wednesday, or Friday but regardless I had class at 1:55 that day. I check my cell phone and I have two text messages, one from my brother-in-law’s brother (my super brother-in-law) that just said “Deron! Wow!” and one from my actual brother-in-law telling me the Nets got Deron Williams. My heart started pounding but I didn’t believe it just yet. They are both Bulls fans but still thought they might try to mess with me. I check NetsDaily and I jump out of bed and go crazy. I call everybody I knew to break the news. Even though it had been official for hours at that point, most of my NBA-interested friends do not wake up until later than I do.
It was such a great day.
i was at work
i was in some1s house fixing a sink and i got a espn text message and it said deron williams has been traded the the new jersey nets and i went nuts good thing the customer wasnt home
Deron Williams+Dwight Howard= Perfection
I was in journalism class in the computer checking out netsdaily.com Once I saw Nets get Deron Williams my eyes popped out and it so jawdropping. All my friends were already jumping on the nets bandwagon. Can’t wait till we get Dwight Howard.
New Jersey Nets
I was one of the few people against trading for Melo.
I knew he would get traded to the Knicks and when I finally saw the report on ESPN, I was surprised that I was actually kind of sad.
It was whatever though. So in Third Period Spanish Class, I was actually talking objectively about the Nets with some NBA fans.
I was talking up Irving and Favors and Lopez.. I thought we just needed to get lucky.
So after that was lunch and sometimes I stop into the library to check my e-mail and other things since I don’t have a BlackBerry or anything.
I tried to log onto NetsDaily and I got the overload error from SBNation. I tried again. Then I put two and two together. I realized it was near the trade deadline so I was like, “Hey maybe the Nets made a trade.”
I went to ESPN.com and on the headlines on the right it said “Nets trying to to swing blockbuster trade for Deron Williams?” or something to that effect.
My heart skipped a beat.
I clicked through to the article and it said something along the lines of “The Nets, trying to rebound from the disappointment of their failure to acquire Carmelo Anthony, consummated a deal with the Utah jazz to acquire Deron Williams for Devin Harris, Derrick Favors and two future first round picks.”
I was ecstatic. My joy could literally not be contained.
I printed out the article and showed it to the only other Nets fan in my school.
He was underwhelmed as he was a big Carmelo and Harris fan.
I didn’t care. I talked to all my Knicks fan friends about it and about how Deron was better than Melo. They didn’t agree, but I didn’t care. I never felt so good about the Nets.
As soon as I got home from school that day, I ordered a Deron Williams jersey.
I’ll never forget that day.
It would only take about .701% of the population of Brooklyn alone to fill the Barclays Center.
"It's kind of like the Garden. It's the same feel. It's special." - Deron Williams on the Barclays Center.
