Expecting the unexpected

I'm not speculating anything is in the works. What I am prepared for is a move that we don't see coming until it's done...just like the trade for Deron Williams. The one player that we all have in sights is Dwight Howard. It looks as though Dwight is going to leave as a FA and take his chances, with Orlando daring him to do so. But we don't really know what's going on in Orlando so enough with that.

What about some other teams that would make a move that we haven't mentioned yet? Whoever loses in the Finals will surely be mentioned. The Bulls want to give Derrick Rose some help. The Spurs may try and get younger finally.

How about the Lakers? There is a lot of pressure for change in LA right now. Their season didn't end so well and a lot of rumors have swirled about possible trades coming since Gasol and Bynum can no longer play together supposedly. And I say one man's trash is another man's treasure - in the form of Paul Gasol.

A possibility is to trade Lopez, Farmar, Outlaw, and Petro for Gasol, Ebanks, and Character. Picks could of course get thrown in the mix. Would you accept that trade if you were Billy King? Would the Lakers accept it? Who knows. If it happened, the Nets would have two of the top 10 offense players in the league and no longer have the two most offensive (relative to their contracts) players in the league.

Another possibility is the Timberwolves, who are trying to trade down from the #2 spot. They have two assets on their hands that many would love to take from them in the form of Derrick Williams and Ricky Rubio. Would you trade away Deron Williams if you could get the rights to the young point guard? The Timberwolves want a center in exchange for the 2nd pick in the draft and we have one they'd love to trade for. A package built around Lopez / James in exchange for the rights to Rubio and the 2nd pick (Derrick Williams)? We might even be able to get A. Randolph thrown in. Then you could move Williams to the highest bidder. Possibly to the Lakers for Gasol again along with Outlaw and Petro in exchange for Gasol, Ebanks, and a lot of picks. And start next year with a lineup of Rubio / Morrow / Williams / Randolph / Gasol

Yes, I'm a fan of Gasol. Yes, if I was able to switch Lopez for Gasol I'd do it in a heartbeart regardless of the age difference. The Rubio/Williams moves, I'm not as sure about but it'd surely be exciting to watch.

The bottom line is I'm not expecting the Nets to enter next season with a lineup of Deron / Morrow / James / Hump / Lopez. I don't think 4 of those names will be starters on the Nets next season. I don't think Dwight will be on the Nets next season either. All I know is this time I ready to not be ready for whatever is in store inside the Billy King bag of tricks.
